;D Heheh, well, I don't know. Do you guys think the book's better, or the movie? I like the movie better because it's easier to err... well, you don't have to read it ( ... boring...?) but then again, whatever err... way of showing it comes out first... then it's better (like the Harry Potter books are soo much better than the movies... they stunk!!.. in my prospective)

In most cases, books are better than their movies, but I'm not sure here. I haven't seen all of the Fellowship of the Ring and I have not yet seen the Two Towers although I have read both. The book Two Towers was so boring (except for the end when it got back to Frodo, Sam, and Gollum, and at the beginning with Merry and Pippin and the Ents and stuff). I'm in no position to say

I saw it the day it came out! (at the best theater in Los Angeles-- it was the same theater where the premiere was held in) There were only four seats left for our showing so my cousin and I took two. It turned out every showing for this week was sold out. I wore my Ringwraith costume.. ;D The movie was awesome! I liked how Treebeard and the Ents were portrayed. And Gollum; Slinker and Stinker as Sam called him. The Fish Song was hilarious too. Faramir's character change was fine with me.. But the Frodo/Ringwraith encounter in Osgiliath was a bit odd. Gimli was the comic relief this time! I thought the dream sequences with Arwen was a bit cheesy but it fit the movie. All the CGI characters were beautiful too. The Wargs, Gollum, the Ents, etc. And Helm's Deep was awesome too.

I finally saw it today, and I just have one thing to say - beautiful.
As always, Mr. Jackson has done an incredible job shooting and casting for the movie; some parts of it were cheesy, yes (Legolas riding a shield like a skateboard) but I can't think of any way I would have done better. If making a good movie involves editing the book a bit, so be it - I think they've struck a good balance between book and movie (including the developing friendship and rivalry between Legolas and Gimli), and actually manage to make the most boring (IMHO) book of the trilogy quite interesting.
Gollum was great - they've got the personalities and voice down pat. The Ents were fantastic - not quite the booming voice I'd imagined, but definitely looking the part; I'll remember the scene with them bracing their roots against the flood for a long time to come.
As to which movie is better, I can't tell. All I have to say is that they're both very *different.* The first was more scenic, almost poetry for the eyes for me because it needed to be that way. This second is less beautiful and more down-to-earth, which is what it needed to be as well.
Kudos to the film crew and cast, and I wish them many more great years and movies to come!

Everyone loves Legolas! I like him, too, but, hey, what about Aragorn? I love that man! To be frank, I think Sam is more attractive than Legolas and Aragorn combined (and that isn't saying too much from my perspective). I think Aragorn just isn't my type, and Legolas ... I don't see what the big dea is, especially as he seems to be the most shallow of the main characters. I mean, he's and elf who shoots arrows - what else is there in his personality? Aragorn has his internal conflicts as well as a certain style, Gimli has his humor, Gandalf isn't terribly deep either, although as my dad said "in the one scene where Gandalf did the tricks for the Hobbit children the movie gave hime more personality than in all four books combined", Frodo has his burden of the ring, Smeagol is sweet, Merry & Pippin have their humor as well, and Sam is a good friend. What can I say? My maturity is so stunted that I have yet to have any serious crushes yet... EDIT : This is my 200th post, cool!

Hmm, you have a point about Legolas as a character having a bit of an underdeveloped personality. But I still think he's cute. I don't have "serious" crush on him though: just a minor one. I've never seen anyone who think Sam is cute, but one of the girls in my troup is a Frodo/Elijah Woods stalker. No kidding, SHE KNOWS WHERE HE LIVES!!!! AAAAH!!! *giggles* She cried during the first movie when he got hurt.

Well I thing Sam is cuter than Legolas - Legolas just seems so flawless in the Hollywood style he's bland. And now that I do think about it, there are a few fictional character in books which I have minor crushes on. However, they are the characters I consider having a cool personality, not the ones which are described as being handsome.

I think the movies are definitely far more entertaining than the books. I've said before - Tolkein created an incredible world, and described it in so much painstaking detail that it was well...painful. This is not to say I don't love the books, I adore them. But movie wise, any artistic license taken is just fine by me.
My hopeless crush on Aragorn lies merely in the fact that he's a scruffy man. In chainmail. And leather. Yum. Trust me, it's purely lust.

I tried to read the books, but after it was page 80 and they were STILL describing the party/Shire/Frodo ect. I lost intrest...
The movie was just WONDERFUL (just saw it). There were some odd parts that just made my odd little mind wanders to some naughty conclusions, but it was amazingly entertaing and grand.
The three hours sitting there didn't bother me at all, it was just great! The best was sitting there and just seeing all those snuggly guys. Heck, that was half the reason for going (although they compare nothing with Harry Potter, they are still grand...and I DON'T mean Daniel Radcliffe, cause he's ugly like a chicken foot).
Gollem was pity-able, cute, scary, all perfectly wraped up into one. I liked the contemplation with himself, it reminded me of that Pixar short with the old man playing chess...
One thing that scared me through the movie was all these Harry Potter looking characters popping up. It's probably because 99.9% of my mind is devoted to Harry, but i couldn't help thinking that Gimli was a mini-Hagrid and that guy (curly haired one, he was kinna snakey-ish) was Snape.
In short, it rocked. ^^

Seeing Harry Potter characters in LOTR? Okay... I suppoae Gimli is like Hagrid in appearence ('cept the dwarf/giant difference) but I don't think Aragorn looks like Snape. I assume you saw Dumbledore in Gandalf/Saroman as well. Random Comment : Someone who saw LOTR with me said that Rohan dressed like Vikings, and Gondor dressed like Romans. And here's a neat LOTR spoof comic-

I didn't exactly see those characters, but I did see where Rowling took a lot of inspiration from. Gollum/Smeagol - Dobby, both in appearence, and way of speaking. When Frodo gets hurt/disturbed, because the eye of Sauron is on him, Harry Potter and his scar when Voldemort is close. There were more, but I can't remember them. I did list more than five to my friend when we left the theater, though.
