Waah, people don't like the way I review! I'm going to cry and sulk in my room because nobody likes me! Thanks. That's really constructive. I'm sorry my bad day offended you. I promise I'll never have another one again. And by the way, "meh" from what I understand from the way my Jewish great-grandmother used it, is a "lukewarm response". It's not a "yuck", it's a "nothing".

I though "meh" was chatspeak for "me"... I was wrong. Again. Per usual.

I've tried not to get into this discussion, but the way it is going is NOT helpful for anyone.
Personally, I don't care much for graded reviews. It sounds more like school or work or something. I think the stuff that gets into the NT is for FUN. We each want to share some of that with others.
Not everyone is going to understand each and every story, article, strip, or what-have-you. But the fact it got into the NT means it was good enough to Josh, and the others at Neopets who read and select them. THAT is what counts.
Discussing them here should be a positive thing, but lately, it has become a personal thing. When it gets to that point, one might want to review their own reviewing processes or responses to a review.
To be honest, I won't do a review because I do not feel I am qualified to judge another's work, but if I really like something, I'll Neomail or send an IM.
Well, that's enough out of me, I guess, so I'll hide out now.

I think pat's right about that. I'm honest but I put it on lightly. I'll crawl in under the bed now.

I totally agree-- I had a really bad day and now it's snowballed out of proportion-- I think we should let this drop! I don't usually take reviews seriously, but this week I was feeling more critical of myself than anyone else could possibly have been. I respect the opinions of everyone here because they mean MORE than the opinions of people who read my articles and Neomail me. That because you are my PEERS and what you have to say IS valid and important. Even if I don't like what I hear sometimes, I HOPE I can always come here for the TRUTH. That's why I joined this forum in the first place.

Stoneman, you got my vote for "most sarcastic article" when we do the NT awards.

LOL-- thanks! Okay... here's the deal. I am fine now. My aunt is in the hospital trying to keep from having a miscarriage. She is 5 months pregnant. My cousin accidentally cut off his right index finger with an axe cutting wood. It was not a good week and I was feeling low in general. I'm okay now. Stoneman is busy working on comics and rewriting a story for the NT. But I would REALLY like to see this Neopian Times Awards thing happen-- it's sounds cool although I'm not sure I understand how it works...

Believe it or not, my bro made up meh. Surprising how it travelled all the way around the world...
I mean, it started with us cousins. Always making up new stuff. Nuts = nothing. We didn't make it up, but my older cousin and I were the first ones to use it in our family.
My brother always said "meh" and so his friend and my cousins say it too. I say it once and a while too...
Oh, and his friend took meh and made it into "bleh".

Personally, I don't care much for graded reviews. It sounds more like school or work or something. I think the stuff that gets into the NT is for FUN. We each want to share some of that with others. Well said. Whenever I've done a review, I try to keep it as simple as I can, with a short comment about what I liked, or what I didn't and why. I don't want to offend anyone, and lately I've felt a bit uncomfortable doing reviews because I know I could be offending someone even if my review wasn't supposed to come off that way. I don't ever want to give people the impression that I'm 'peachifruit, supreme ruler of short stories--bow before me and take my criticism with shame!', ever. I just want to give my opinion on what I liked and what I didn't understand. If you ask me, I say we dump this whole 'review' thing and turn it into something more positive, perhaps a 'reading recommendations of the week' thing, instead of 'I didn't understand this, so I'll label it with a bad grade.' So, with this in mind, I don't think I'll review any more stories. If I've ever given a not-so-great review to anyone, please don't take any offense. I appreciate all of the work I read in the Neopian Times every week, and that's that.

Yeah, I agree!! And anyway, if it got in the Times, it should be good (except for the thing I wrote ) We're all friends. We should understand each other. We just want people to improve, not to stop!!

Maybe next time we should start "Issue 72 Recommendations" instead of "Issue 72 Reviews".

But then if someone wasn't recommended, wouldn't they be sad too? And we can't really tell them how to improve and stuff...
