Oh, you're right. So...what should be done to make 'reviews' a bit less harsh?

Maybe for the ones we haven't read at all, we shouldn't list it or give it a bad review just because of a silly title, or just say "It should improve on this" and then tell the good part about it. Everything I read had a good part, and besides, the good part is what got it in the Times.

Get rid of the grading system. It only compares pieces to other ones. Try to supplement each negative comment with a suggestion to make it better.
And the people being reviewed - lighten up.=) I haven't always gotten a good review and hey, I defend myself - but I'm still very thankful that someone took the time to review my story. If you only want compliments, you'd may as well tell people not to review your piece, because they're taking time out of their lives to read and review your work. And for that I am thankful.
To the reviewers - kudos to you. You've self-assigned a hard job and it's always hard to be honest about everything. *hugs* We love ya'.

Thanks, oddhatter! Sure, I'll trash the grading system in my reviews. We should all be able to list at a few good things about each piece, right?

"Hey, peachifruit, you have 8 messages, 0 are new."
Nah, I didn't get it. But knock yourself out! I'd love to have her mentioned in your story.

I always thought of the grading system as too formal. I like the smiley system; anyone's free to use it if they want.
"Meh" was not created by anybody; if so, I could say paintvader (my friend who's frozen) and his friends made it up at my school. I guess it's just like the word "Oh": everyone uses it, and it has many origins.

Meh is like meep? I meep, everyone meeps. No one 'invented' meep it's just a made up nonsense word open to interpretaion!

Meep is nonsense. Meh is a rip in the fabric of the chimerical time-space continuum that results in no state of being.
