So long as it's fantasy or sci-fi (with a humanoid base), I'm up for anything. :3 I know D&D stuff better than Dragon Age, though, so... *shrug*
((also I still think it's funny having someone else be Shade on this forum. <3))

I agree with Ciel (I'm calling her that so we don't get confused XD), pretty much. Any fantasy or sci-fi setting would be okay with me.

I agree with keeping the setting generic so as not to confuse newcomers. As for which one we use, I have no preference; I'll go with whatever we decide.

No preference in terms of setting. =D So Sarn's the only one who's actually expressed a preference for one of fantasy vs. science fiction. xD

*sells Sarn an RPG for many dollars =D*

I'd love to participate. As long as it's not geared too much towards D&D or Dragon Age, at least, since I'm not familiar with either. ^_^;

Well, if we're using a DA style system, I'm happy. I bought DAO Ultimate Edition (YAY~!) just last weekend, so I'll be familiar with it. Oh! Also, if this is any help; here is a free beta DAO skill calculator/planner that might help us somehow: Dragon Age Origins - Character Builder Tool

Alrighty then, let's get this thing on the road ^_^ I've decided to run a Dragon Age RPG using both the setting and the rules available here for your reference. In case it's too long to read let me just give a brief overview of the world of Thedas, the setting for the Dragon Age RPG ... The world of Thedas is a bleak one, especially during the Dragon Age, so called for the reappearance of dragons long thought extinct. The Fifth Blight currently ravages the country of Ferelden. Blights occur when darkspawn -- corrupted humans, elves, dwarves and qunari -- spill out onto the surface to terrorize the world above, led by an Archdemon, a mighty corrupted dragon. Only the Grey Wardens, an ancient order of Jedi knights chosen from all nations and specially trained to combat the darkspawn menace, can bring an end to the Blight. North of Ferelden, across the Waking Sea, are the Free Marches. This loose confederation of city-states is known as the breadbasket of Thedas due to its rich farmland and abundant crops. The Free Marches have no central government and most of the time its member cities are embroiled in any number of minor feuds over trade, tariffs, and territory. When threatened by an outside power, however, the Marchers pull together and put armies in the field that rival those of their neighbors. The major cities of the Free Marches are Ansburg, Hercinia, Kirkwall, Markham, Ostwick, Starkhaven, and Tantervale. The burghers are a dynamic people. They are great traders but also fierce defenders of their home cities. Some practice their martial skills to compete in the Grand Tourney, a traveling tournament and fair that moves from city to city. Roughly once every three years, the Grand Tourney settles down for a year to hold a Contest of Arms. People from all over Thedas travel to the Free Marches to see or compete in this legendary event. You, the players, however start in Kirkwall, one of the many independent city states that make up the Free Marches. Kirkwall was once the centre of the Tervinter Imperium's slave trade network until it fell in an uprising. Now the city is governed by a viscount, of which Viscount Dumar is the currenly ruling one. Humans make up the majority of the populace and generally comprise all aspects of society, from the noble in Hightown to the beggar in Darktown. Dwarves practice a strict caste system in which every Dwarf is assigned to a guild, be it merchant, smith, miner, servant, etc. It is rare to see a Dwarf on the surface who isn't a merchant plying their trade. Dwarves will sometimes leave their underground homes to make a life where the sky is blue, instead of stone, and these are known as Surface Dwarves, often ridiculed and despised by their decidedly hard-headed fellows. Excuse the pun. When the slaves of the Tervinter Imperium revolted against their oppressors, the Elves were at the forefront along with Andraste, about whom we shall speak later. Though the rebellion caused a huge upheaval, the Tervinter Imperium was never fully defeated. This is the point in Elvish history where the two groups deviated. Some Elves remained slaves or servants spread all over the world of Thedas, and these became known as City Elves. They are considered second-class citizens and are often the subject of abuse and injustice. The other group of Elves were given the Dales as a homeland as a reward for their assistance in the rebellion, and so they took their name of Dalish. They travel in small clans in caravan-like Aravels pulled by Halla (sort of like deer), never staying in one place for long and always distrusting and sometimes even hostile to outsiders. "Magic is to serve man, and not rule over him" - This is a line written in the Chant of Light. It is, however, largely ignored by the Tervinter Imperium, which is ruled by powerful Magisters - mages who rule by power. The problem with mages is that they pose quite a danger to themselves and everyone around them. Mages, you see, have the unique ability to enter the Fade, the world of spirits and demons, and also to learn the long-forgotten practice of Blood Magic. In order to learn this practice, the mage must be taught by a demon, and demons are only helpful for so long before revealing their own agenda, which is usually to possess the mage's body and mind, thus turning them into an abomination. Blood Magic is not inherrently wrong, but the association with demons and, well, blood makes for a rather tainted image; one which the Chantry does nothing to hinder. Thus, the Circle of Magi was born. The Circle is the prison-like home of almost all mages, who are guarded by the Templar Order, a branch of the Chantry. Templars hunt down apostates - mages outside the Circle, and make sure they stay where they can be guarded closely. If an apostate or Circle mage has turned to Blood Magic, no matter the outcome, the Templars will kill them without question. Such is the Chantry's fear of the potential for mage corruption. And there you have it, the very basics of the setting. I know it's quite a wordy post but it's difficult to summarize a setting such as this. Please get back to me if you have interest in joining or if you have any questions. I'd be pleased to answer them ^_^ Edit: I forgot to mention but yes you may use the attached backgrounds as well as the backgrounds stated in the book link Attachments:

*goes and looks at the rules* ...the stats are so weird. xD (I am totally just used to D&D, though. So 3d6 for stats leads to stats that look worrisomely low to my eyes.) *will probably end up playing an apostate* :3 EDIT: So when it says "You start with mana equal to 10 + 1d6 + MAGIC", does it mean the stat's modifier or the stat itself? I know that in D&D, most things like this (HP, damage, etc.) use the modifer, but... different system here. xD So. Yes.
(editedit: as I keep reading it becomes more obvious that when they name a stat they mean the stat-modifier, which bothers me immensely. >.< they should just say what they mean, even if it takes more space.)
((Why yes I am playing at making a character now. >.> *likes character creation*))
EDIT2: With Focuses, are you just given the ones from your chosen background and class at first level, or do you also get to choose one independent of that?
EDIT3: Two yards (DA) = Five feet (D&D). Therefore, 2yrd blast = effects one square, generally one target, yeah? Which doesn't matter as much, admittedly, for an online game, but still.
Anyway. xD Unless there is a really good reason against me doing this, I'm playing an apostate mage whose focus is not getting caught by the Chantry, and thus has spells that aren't showy (Heal, Daze, Mind Blast). And who is slightly obsessed with not breaking any laws or anything, so that nobody has any reason to go after him. This would also be why his friends started calling him Saint, instead of his given name (Evander). Also he's an elf. :3
...and I'd write more backstory except I'd rather wait until I know vaguely what everyone else is doing and what the starting point of this game will be, so that I can work them in.
*likes roleplaying games maybe a bit more than most folk* buthey, if anyone really wants me to change what I'm playing, I can. xD this is just my initial idea of 'This'd be fun!'. Which is an apostate with a paladin's values, I just realised. Should be fun. :3
