How many of you are Harry Potter fans? I know I am! Any information about new release date, or just crazy rumours or well thought out theories welcomed

I am...of the books, anyway. The movies just butcher the books like most movies made from books do.

Yep!! That's what I mean. Hermione didn't even get to do the potion thingy, and Ron was supposed to be bitten by Norbert and didn't get in trouble, Neville was..

You'll never guess how I discovered Harry Potter (unless I already told you - I've told this story a millino times) but I first found out by seeing the cover on a shelf in a store, without anything special about it, but I noticed it. I thought that Harry was an adult and I didn't know anything else about it than what was on the cover. Eventually the store keeper recommended it and offered me her copy, and I read it. The only Harry Potter book I didn't like was Chamber of Secrets. The Tom Riddler plot was good, but it seemed like Ms. Rowling was trying too hard to stretch a story that wasn't that long into a novel, and the filler material stank up the book. I ESPECIALLY loath it when the school authorities punish Harry and all the other students look down on him. I mean, do they have noodles for brains? Not only is it not fun to read, but by Year 4 you would have thought that the students may have recognized a pattern that, when Harry get's in trouble, it's not hi fault, and what he was doing was right all along. Chamber had the most of this crap, a major negative point for it. Azkaban was the best book. I love it (as well as the 1st and 4th book). However everyone here loves them too, so I don't think I need to explain myself the same way I had to explain myself for Secrets. Though it's been a while since I read any of the books... Also there was qutie a bit of sexism. No, I don't think it's a reason for banning it or anything, yes, I know the author is a woman, and many other books have a worse issue with this, but it's there. Females make 50% of the world's population. Out of all the characters in Harry Potter who alter the course of the plot line, what percentage are female?

Oh, the movies. I haven't seen them, and I don't want to see them. I'll take everyone else's word that it's not as good as the book, and I do not want to soil my mind with a version of Harry Potter which is something inferiror to the book.
The thing about Christopher Columbus (the director of the movies) which amazes me is that he loves to throw money around so much. I mean, I doubt he was born working with $100,000,000+ budgets on movies, and I wonder how he got the habit to such an extreme. Of course I'm not objecting when that money flies MY way (I was an extra in Bicentennial Man, but I was just a blurry figure which appeared for a second on the widescreen so don't watch for me - but I did get $60 bucks and a very good day).
Anyway, the Azkaban movie is having a different director, one who is supposed to have "brought movies based on books alive" in the past. I hope they do a good job on that movie as it's my faviorite book.

I agree! The Chamber of Secrets was the worst so far, and Azkaban was the best. Err... yeah, don't watch the movies! I've only watched one, and I don't want to waste any money on the other one. I would watch it if my friend bought it, though

I've seen both movies, and they were each very frustrating. The second movie was very loooong, and you kept wanting to yell out, "IT'S A BASILISK, YOU IDIOT!!" and "STAB THE BOOK WITH THE FANG, YOU DOMNODDY!" Thankfully, I controlled myself and saved myself from that humiliation, but both movies were very disappointing. Plus, the Harry guy is a terrible actor. The basilisk didn't look anything like a snake. I could go on and on and on...again....

Plus, the Harry guy is a terrible actor. In MAD's spoof of the movie, they certainly beat that point to death. I don't think he even looks like Harry. I've met someone who, if they had a scar, and didn't have slanted eyes, they would have looked perfectly like Harry (especially the way the Germans draw Harry). He had brown/blackish messy hair, glasses, was short, etc. You know, at the main library they have an exhibit of Harry Potter books from around the world. Some countries just borrowed the American or British illustrations (the Chinese one looks really funny - it's got the American illustrations, but it's way shorter) but most of them drew their own illustrations. Out of the non-English/American covers, Denmark definitely has the best ones, although Germany and Finland look, er, interesting? It's also fun trying to figure out which language it is, as they aren't labelled by nation. EDIT: Ooh, I found a website displaying Harry Potter covers from around the world - www.potterland.hpg.ig.com.br/capas.htm - they are kinda small. but you get the idea.

I am a big big Harry Potter fan!!
I heard the fifith book is going to come out this summer! I can't wait! I do hope JK Rowling finishes ger book in time.
I liked the books far better than the movie. The movie lacks several interesting elements, like Peeves the poltergiest.

Well, you can't help what Harry looks like. Even though he's supposed to have JET BLACK hair, and is supposed to be short (shorter than Ron and Hermione, I suppose). And Ron should be really tall, and.. yeah... So... I've run out of things to say.

One more thing that REALLY bugs me: Isn't Harry supposed to have GREEN eyes?? His eyes are blue in the movie...
