I am sorry about that, Riel. D= I hope your mum will be okay, and especially your dad. I guess your mum was just one of those unlucky few who get infected despite the vaccine. Hang in there.

My grandma is part of the 1%.
Specifically, she is one of the 1.44% in Ukraine who have been vaccinated, which, aaaaa. I honestly cannot believe she managed to get it, because vaccines are rare over there. But also glad. Right now, Ukraine isn't doing so hot and she is over 70.
I'm really glad. Also got to coach her through what to expect, since she got AstraZeneca like me. Her arm is numb and she was feeling super tired, which checks out. Hopefully my grandpa will follow her lead and get it soon, because while he can be super stubborn, he is diabetic and a cancer survivour.

So, three of my direct reports are immigrants from India. Most of them have family back home and they've all expressed concern about the situation there. To make things more concerning, one of them has to travel back for immigration reasons, so there is some level of concern there too.
They have all received their vaccines, but it's not safe to travel because the vaccines are effective but they are not perfect. It's a rough situation and I'm just letting people know that I'm listening. I just hope the situation gets better soon and that my coworkers' families are all ok.

I had my second vaccine today. And Carolyn I have hear multiple people report unusual periods after the vaccines. So it could be that.

My dad went to a political convention (you have to attend in-person or you can't vote?? or something??) and we're all really worried he's going to catch COVID, none of us are vaccinated or anything, and I'm just... really freaking out
House isn't big enough for quarantining, I really don't want to be here but I don't have anywhere to go
Hate this stupid virus EDIT: So apparently he didn't actually go? So that's a relief

Which is like a primary election to choose the candidates, but it is in-person. Almost like a debate, where everyone tries to convince people to vote for their candidate. It's rather odd, and I'm not explaining it well. All I know is I attended one that was broken up by police before anything ever got done. My state never did it that way again. Fun times! XD I'll share more, for anyone who's curious. PM me. It's actually a pretty hilarious story.

Our president now wants to have everyone who doesn't wear face masks and face shields arrested. "Arrest them, detain them, investigate them." I mean, there are people who still don't believe in COVID-19 and don't wear masks over a year into this, but...arresting them is literally not the answer?

Tiniest upswing/plateauing in case numbers over here and it is enough to make me panic, yay. Nice to know winter was traumatic and I have some trauma from it. >< I really hope nothing comes of this.

Well, it's a relief to see the cases here dropping, although hospitalizations remain high, which is not a good thing. I read somewhere, but can't find it, that the area that I'm in no longer has the highest amount of cases, that would be a neighbouring region.
Also, thanks to the government loosening restrictions on who can get the vaccine, I'm actually going to get it earlier than expected (and was able to book online). I still would have to wait until May 29, which is 9 days after the shutdown is lifted and things should slowly return to normal, but it will definitely be worth the wait. Apparently, I'm going to be the last person in my immediate family that will get the 1st shot, with my twin getting it in April (based on what my mom told me that she will get her 2nd in August), and my parents getting it before me.

So the local school board meeting was going to be in-person with masks. Instead, it will be virtual because someone threatened the school board on social media over the mask rules.
The school year is literally over on May 28. How low can people go? Seriously, I will never understand people that feel the need to threaten to harm others who are just doing their best to keep people safe while providing them with an education, which is a very important job. I went to the schools here and I still remember the people that dedicated their lives to making sure my peers and I were prepared for the next stages in life. So to hear this news is highly upsetting to me. Our school board should be able to meet in peace and discuss important education topics while engaging with parents in an open Q&A.

Grandad in Ukraine has also been vaccinated. \o/ He got Pfizer.
Meanwhile, still waiting on my mum's appointment to come through. Statistics show that 70% of her age group here in Scotland has been done, and she should have been near the top, but nothing. Her friend and Dadmouse have gotten theirs, but they're registered with GPs in a different council area. Ours is a bit of a mess with vaccination. I've been encouraging her to call, and she says she will.
I'm growing quite frustrated with Scotland's system of giving out appointments instead of allowing us to book them, like apparently can be done in other parts of the UK (if you're eligible). Rollout here has been slowing a bit because of that (though still have 65.4% of adults vaccinated, which isn't awful). Still, with Scottish cases going up a bit, I am nervous as heck.
