We had a mask mandate, however, the GOP controlled state legislature here forced our governor to sign a bill when she first enacted the mandate along with other emergency powers. This bill effectively curbs the governor’s powers during a pandemic, setting up a legislative coordinating committee that can overrule the governor’s orders. If the governor vetoed the bill, it would be overridden and then the GOP legislators in our state would have blocked everything our governor tried to do afterwards so she was really backed into a difficult position.
So long story short, our governor tried to extend the mask mandate and the LCC overruled her. There’s still a county level mask mandate that expires at the end of the month and that’s it. Any new mask mandates can be challenged and a court has 72 hours to rule on them. This is practically ridiculous but it’s a reality in my state. One party is just treating this as a political issue and it’s literally the most ridiculous thing ever.
Anyways, rant aside, in three days, I should be under full protection of the vaccine as it will have been two weeks. I’ll still wear a mask and be careful, but I will be more comfortable with doing things in more social settings. But it does feel a bit liberating.

Meanwhile in the UK: -are you under 30? gotta wait till September/October before you get 2 shots and immunity. -haha whoops looks like that vaccine gives you a 1 in 1 million chance of developing a blood clot, oh well better not give them to the under 30s -oh you want to leave the country? sorry thats illegal (£5,000 fine or up to 10 years in prison). we're gonna resume international tourism arrivals tho so people can watch you, just like a zoo for humans! -haha remember when we spent £40 billion to get a good test and trace system working? Whoops turns out it was based on Microsoft Excel and the contractors pocketed the rest of the money. (that's roughly £800 per person in future tax obligations)
the good times just keep on rolling

Community pantry updates a.k.a. why the Philippines can never have nice things: 1. One community pantry was shut down because the organizer started to fear for her volunteers when police started asking for their names and affiliations. The police have started to go around asking for the people who are organizing community pantries, claiming that some communist groups have been using them as ways to spread their propaganda. UPDATE: They will continue.2. Some local officials have been trying to put their names on community pantries for exposure. 3. And then there's this one video of half a dozen women running over to an unmanned community pantry and then taking everything on it, including entire trays of eggs. One of them didn't even have a face mask and was spotted on the footage laughing. They were quick to leave and when questioned later, they said they took the food for their neighbors. Joke's on them, one neighbor who was interviewed said they didn't receive anything. 4. One government official was quick to backtrack after saying that people who organized community pantries needed to get a permit. (Needless to say, other officials were just as quick to declare that they won't be asking for permits.) Conclusion: it's not the poor you have to watch out for with these kinds of things. It's the middle- and upper-class people who are too lazy and tightfisted to open their own wallets even though they can. The poor people are the ones who are shy to approach, who take literally only what they will eat. They know what it's like to not have anything and so they think of others more readily.

Carolyn - I'll be joining you soon on Part 2! I really hope I don't feel too icky given my responsibilities today, but I probably should expect it. Anyway, I'll join you in solidarity, if nothing else. (I'll also be drinking all the tea. That really helped me last time.)

Woo, Gelquie! We shall join in tea-drinking solidarity. Got my herbal tea and tylenol ready, both help. And probably going to be sleeping very, very early tonight.

Sounds good, Carolyn! I'm thinking of this flower tea mix, and maybe some other ones, depending on what I get to. Anyway, early bed also sounds like a good plan. Sleep well!
I've gotten mine and so far it doesn't feel too bad, although that's subject to change. Mostly the first hints of arm soreness and the hints of a headache. All subject to change, of course; we'll see how I feel after dinner and over the next few days. It's only been a few hours since mine. (It's weird since with the first one, I almost instantly started feeling stuff, albeit quietly at first, so I expected this to be worse. I guess time will tell.)

Hope you get some rest and drink some of that tea. If you plan on doing v-safe check-ins with the CDC, they will first check in with you daily for the first week after the second dose and then it backs off to weekly if you consistently feel good.

I've been doing check-in stuff, so I have that covered.
Anyway, sort of update. With all the talk about people finding the second dose worse, that has... not been my experience? That's not to say that I had no side effects and didn't generally feel unwell by bedtime. But I don't think I can say it was worse than my first one. Mostly right now I'm just kinda ache-y and not up for serious exercise, but even that headache is mostly gone already.
I dunno if that was just me, if the first one had a lot of either psychosomatic effects or something that was already going on, but I found it interesting.
I still drank a bunch of tea because hey, can't hurt.

I'm not sure if it's just my monthly cycle kicking my butt or Covid AND that, but goooosh am I in pain today. Stomach, arm, back, everything is just screaming and it's been hard to move off the couch. Owww... 2 Tylenol and it feels like nothing has happened. I just feel exhausted... u_u

Meanwhile, in Western Canada...
Vaccination rollout is slow and the variants are rampant.
My mom, who did have her first (but not second) shot of Astra Zeneca at the start of the month, has just tested positive for the EU Variant. Presumably, from my Dad, who tested positive for it yesterday (and is having a really rough time of it) -- but how he got it we're not sure because he barely leaves the yard and when he does he always wears a mask and disposal gloves everywhere.
So... be careful everyone!
(Thankfully my sisters and I have tested negative, but still.)
