Welp. Guess who as The Sick now.
For the most part, I actually feel pretty decent. I feel sick, of course, but all things considered I'm not bad off. I don't have many aches. I still have my sense of taste. My nose feels stuffy and such, but nothing unlike a head cold so far. I feel like I should mention that while I still haven't gotten my boosters, I am vaccinated. I got my Moderna shots back last August and last September.
My mom, however, she is not vaccinated. And she is sick too. She feels much worse than I do.
So yeah. There's that.

Hope the two of you recover well! It's not a fun time, for sure.

While I'm still waiting for my second booster I'm more concerned about how the government will accommodate my grandma who is not only turning 90 but also had a mild case of pneumonia last year and has difficulty walking because she hasn't been vaccinated yet.
She's the only one in this house that hasn't been vaccinated so OI MOVE YA KEISTERS, GOVERNMENT can we have the vaccine administered here at our house

I have obtained my second booster. This one includes omicron BA.4/5 spike protein mRNA. I opted for Moderna this time to switch it up and get slightly different antibodies. My reaction was milder than with pfizer (keep in mind Moderna’s booster is a half dose of the primary vaccine but the volume of mRNA is still higher in Moderna’s booster shot) More info on mixing and matching www.mdanderson.org/cancerwise/mixing-and-matching-covid-19-booster-shots--should-you-do-it.h00-159465579.html It was also a delayed reaction for me. After 24 hours, I developed a fever and chills and my shoulder was very sore but after sleeping, I am all good.

I got Pfizer for my second booster. No other side effects aside from feeling weak and tired and extra grumpy when people want to set an online meeting with me for a legal mess they made.
It's been two days since I got the jab, I'm feeling much better. Though I was cautioned to stay away from allergy triggers for a few days.

Half my workplace has covid (another just tested positive today, the day another returned to work after having it), and my brother tested positive yesterday. I'm testing every day but I still worry about being asymptomatic and passing it on. ;-;

Just got the bivalent booster today! (Finally.) I'd been behind as is and I wanted to get the flu shot first because I had no protection for that. But as my mom put it: You kind of have to make a point of it if you want it to happen. So I did.
(Of course, my appointment happened during a winter storm. \ o / But I made it there and back alright.)
The side effects aren't too bad so far. Just a normal slight ache in my arm, a little more fatigue, and my chest whispering "uhhh I dunno about this guys," but nothing I can't deal with or ignore. I'll probably just go to bed early tonight; sleep seems to fix the worst of it really well, and the storm may cut off power anyway and thus keep me from staying up later.
If the vaccinated effects are a fraction of the thing itself, then I'm glad I got this instead.
EDIT: Okay, one thing of tea later and it's down to mild fatigue and arm ache. Okay then, works for me. xP (That's my go-to with vaccine side effects, and this is why.)

Got hit with a really nasty respiratory infection this week (I'm feeling better). I was feverish, had a nasty cough, sore throat so bad I lost my voice, nasty fevers which left me shivering and sweating at the same time, upset digestive system which included loss of appetite, constantly exhausted, the works. Took three days off work to recover. Feeling better now.
Felt a lot like when I had Covid in April. Today I decided to take a lateral flow test, since aside from recovering quickly, it was like reliving April again.
Test is...negative?!
What the heck was this?!

Disclaimer: This is not a diagnosis, I am not a doctor.
Apparently the flu is also really bad this year. (As is RSV; you'll probably be fine if you're an adult but it's hitting kids hard.) I've heard from media outlets that it's being called a tripledemic. And the hospitals are feeling it.
If it's lateral flow at-home test, it could also have been a false negative, because they can be prone to that.
Regardless of what it is, I'm glad you're feeling better.

Our Christmas dinner plan might be in jeopardy. My sister visited someone who got a positive Covid result. However, she tested negative today, but my mom thought it would be best that she did not come over today (also for dinner). We'll just have to wait and see
And this is coming on the heels of both of my parents testing positive earlier in the year. I've managed to somehow dodge those bullets.

Dormouse's class is mostly off with various illnesses, both teachers and students. Anecdotally, a lot of my co-workers are also complaining of being knocked out by bad colds. It makes sense: this is the first year without restrictions and full mixing, so our immune systems are taking the full brunt of it. (Probably also does not help in my case that I am in a new environment and with a long commute on public transport) Not discounting it being a false negative for the test either, but we'll find out when me and Thundy both test before we go off for the holidays. I was still testing positive when I had covid a full ten days after my first test, and when I had mostly recovered too.

If you participated in V-Safe and used it to report how you felt after the vaccines, the CDC now has a landing page showing what research that data contributed to if you are interested. They are under the heading “COVID-19 Vaccine Safety Articles and Studies by Topic” www.cdc.gov/vaccinesafety/research/publications/index.htmlI don’t think I need to remind anyone here as I’m probably preaching to the choir but the vaccines are very safe. As with any vaccine or medication though, some folks will experience side effects that are more severe than normal. The research here is necessary to figure out why so that in the future, we may understand if we need to observe or treat folks that have a reaction or if we can find ways to reduce side effects if we know the root cause.

I don’t recall posting this but here’s a paper that used VA data to compare third dose efficacy between Pfizer and Moderna www.nature.com/articles/s41564-022-01272-zI don’t want to endorse or recommend a particular shot so I’ll leave the decision to others. But I did get Moderna as a fourth shot after three Pfizer shots. The data does suggest a bit more efficacy in preventing symptoms and hospitalizations for the Moderna shot. But there are limitations to this study and they are declared in the Discussion section of the analysis. I would say that having your third and fourth booster from either Pfizer or Moderna would be safer than not having that protection at all. If you are in a higher risk category though, I would consider the Moderna shot over Pfizer though. I would also say the Moderna booster produced less side effects for me than the Pfizer booster.

Interesting, thanks for sharing!
Over here we only have Pfizer for our first three doses, but can choose Pfizer or novavax for future boosters.
