So I've been really into speedrunning recently, and with GDQ going on right now, I figured why not have a place to talk about them! Whether you like doing speedruns yourself, or just like watching them, feel free to talk about your favorite runs, crazy new skips, or RNG chokepoints here. --- Member list: PFA Killix Ryanruff13 Gelquie

I've been watching streams of SHiFT speedrunning SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom lately, and it's amazing how even a game like that has a lot of technical components that make its runs addicting to rewatch.
GDQ events are always fun too; plenty of talent, between the human runs and the tech demos from AGDQs 2014-2017.
also do my runs of Caves and Corridors from Neopets count

also do my runs of Caves and Corridors from Neopets countI mean if I can run games no one's heard of like Puzzle Star Sweep, I think Neopets games should count too, lol Also I'm gonna go ahead and start things off by sharing one of my favorite TAS runs, Celeste, in which spikes are merely a suggestion:

Gotta go glitch!
I really enjoy watching speedruns, though I don't really do them myself. Sometimes I may play with one, or see how fast I can complete something I've played a lot, but some of the speedruns look like stuff I could never do. Still, it's amazing to watch, and really fun to see just how broken games can be.
(It's okay, brokenness is half the fun!)
I'm really glad this summer's GDQ went ahead virtually; it makes it really accessible to most people (unless their internet is crap, of course), and is a nice event to watch in the midst of everything. And if a stream for a game is missed, the video upload turnaround time isn't bad; just takes about a day.

XD Walls and hazards, you guys gonna sit this one out. Never played that game, but I can tell that they're doing a lot of crazy stuff in that TAS. XD ---------- Here's one of my favourites: A Sonic 3 & Knuckles New Game Plus Ring Attack TAS, where the goal is to collect every ring in each level of the game. Fast. Showcases frame-perfect inputs, glitches, and manipulation of Tails. Poor Ice Cap zone.X'D

That's when TASes shine at their greatest.

TASes are always about those swag strats And yeah, that "phasing through spikes" trick in Celeste is literally pixel perfect. Humans do it in a couple of places where it's easy to set up and/or it saves a significant amount of time, but TAS can just do it constantly because TAS. XD

I've been watching the TAS in parts, mostly going "ooh, impressive pixel-perfect moves!"
Then Marble Garden. Then Ice Cap zone.
...Killix is right. poor Ice Cap zone. Someone give it intensive care.

With the core game being so flexible in how it can be played, Dark Souls 1 speedruns tend to be unreal. What's really fun is some of the ones that use hacks to randomize your weapons or enemy drops where these people still complete the game in like, a fraction of my average times. xD; Or the ones that replace all enemies with a random boss...

Oh man, randomizer speedruns. XD I've watched some Zelda randos and they're so wild. Like, you literally have to memorize where every single item pickup in the game is, remember which items are needed for which dungeons, and oftentimes fight bosses that you're not supposed to fight until much later. But I guess if anyone's put that much time into learning every detail of a game, it's speedrunners, haha.

When you're competitive, but not that competitive: (Hi, I do mediocre Celeste runs in my spare time)
