On the front page is a banner that links to here: www.neopets.com/np20birthday/Where we get to see a couple of familiar faces! It's an entire event for the week, with clues to solve and prizes and a storyline. Very exciting. I personally would like to solve the clues myself, so in case others want to do the same, be sure to put such discussion in spoilers. I might edit in more later, but I'm always so eager to get these event threads posted, so let's go!

I'm gonna actually try and participate in a Neo event!!! Fingers crossed I actually stay committed to it! I like how there's multiple clues per day, it almost feels like an early advent calendar x3 That being said, I'm kinda skeptical on some of these clues. I wanted to make a try on my own with the clues before looking up solutions, but I think most of today's I ended up going to Jellyneo xP
First one I was almost certain it was Moltara, although I'll put that one on me as I was blinded by the Atlas of the Ancients plot to think of anything else. This whole plot feels like some kind of sequel or rehash of AotA, since it's about Neopia's core being unstable or something, and the first clue referred to the source of these problems. But alas, guess Moltara isn't the only spot where you can reach Neopia's core.
Snowager one wasn't hard, that was pretty straightforward for me.
The Meridell one... I have no idea. The clue's first two lines explicitly talked about a valley with "happy" in the name, but then I had no idea what to make of the last two lines. I guess somehow they pointed towards Meridell? I wish I could relook at the clues themselves, I dunno if there's anyway to refer back to them?
The last clue I'm just calling as wrong xD It specifically said an island east of Mystery Island, plus one that was hidden from history. So I was thinking oh, this time it's actually Moltara! No? Maybe Lutari Island? No... Hm, well I guess we'll ask Jellyneo... Smuggler's Cove?? Krawk Island is west of Mystery Island, thank you very much! xD

Seeing as how this event involves dealing with Neopia's core -with the obvious connection to Moltara's history- I'm eagerly watching for any potential canon fodder to use for my Infinity saga, while simultaneously biting my nails in dread of anything that could potentially mess all my plans up.

I'm already lowkey kinda ignoring that Neopian Times Issue 1 that says "Faeries sighted," but it's not like my comic had much regard adhering to site lore anyway xD I'm curious as well any references they may make to Moltara or AotA, since it is so similar. I already have a number of questions, like what specifically is wrong with the core, why Hannah and Kanrik, etc., so hopefully they give some expansion on that xD

Twillie : I think at this point, writing/drawing Neopets fanfiction more or less means picking and choosing which parts of canon to completely ignore. Judging by the early dialogue, I'm hoping that we can finally get a better explanation why the original Moltarans decided to set up a scavenger hunt for people centuries in the future to do if they didn't want the planet to blow up, instead of, oh I don't know... just keeping the spare parts to the core stabilizer with them.

I mean the bigger question is why they bothered with the core stabiliser at all if this crystal solves the problem entirely if you use it every 20 years. I guess the Bori must have made/found it after the original Moltaran expedition set out? Even so, why didn't they use it during Atlas of the Ancients?

I'm actually really excited about this? It's giving me very nostalgic and celebratory feelings right now, and I'm enjoying it so far! Comments on description & dialogue: In other words, try to fix the mess that is Neopets' backend? This sure sounds like a lead-in to the unveiling of the mobile site/conversion to HTML5. Clever comparison if it is. I am looking forward to Y12/2010, in that case. :3 I really, really want to! Scroll/clue thoughts: Clue #1 My first thought was actually Maraqua based on the first line, and the second only encouraged it. But then I was like, "Oh! But it could be Moltara too? They were just talking about it, and what's more "below" than Neopia's core, right? And the rest fits too, considering AotA..." I checked and nothing popped up. Hmm. Well, Faerieland had also entered my mind as an option for the "desperate repairs" part of it, even if I was like, it's not really below though? I mean, unless you compare it from where it had been, then I guess that definitely "lies below". I still did a quick check anyway just in case, and no dice. I then checked Maraqua, but nothing had popped up either, so I was momentarily stumped. :T And that's when my eyes drifted down and caught sight of "Maraquan Ruins", and lo and behold, my prize awaited! Speaking of the prize, that capsule is super pretty! I wish we had the option to keep it, though maybe it's best we don't, as I might not be willing to open it to receive the actual prize within. Also, I find it cute that the first item is related to the Neopian Times. :3 Clue #3 Um. That "Happy" "valley" one made no sense to me, but okay. I still was expecting something Meridell-related since Champions of Meridell was the only event listed that year on JN's Book of Ages, but yeah. I was so lost and had to resort to going to JN for that one.
Edit: Okay, the boards actually made that part make sense, and now I'm impressed by the cleverness. Synonyms of "happy" and "valley" - someone pointed out "merry" and so I was like, OOHHHH. Looked up "dell" just to make sure, and it is indeed a valley. But geez, so misleading considering there actually is a Happy Valley. That may have been the intention though.
And yeah, I actually had to look up an image of a compass just to make sure I wasn't getting my directions confused for that "East of mystery" clue. OTZ Anyway, I really appreciate the descriptions for each of the prizes. :3 All of the items are pretty cute. ^^ Wait, there's multiple clues per day? Oh, gosh, I didn't realize that, lol. *goes back to read the next clues*

Hooray for 20 years of Neopets! The idea of the riddles seems fun, especially since we can collect commentative items!

On one hand, I'm glad they decided to bring back Hannah and Kanrik after being absent (save for Kanrik's cameo in TFR) for over ten years. Having said that though, and as mentioned before in this thread, why them? Why would Kanrik agree to help out? Hannah I can understand, as she's a treasure hunter/adventurer. But it seems kind of odd that a master thief would be interested in saving Neopia, let alone travel with Hannah, even if it poses such a danger to him and his reputation. I don't like what they are doing with Kanrik's characterization thus far. I mean, when did Kanrik ever freak out over something? Where's his stoic demeanor? This doesn't bode well for the writing on this plot.

The first day's dialogue wasn't too bad, but today's definitely became even more OOC. If they wanted a character to make jokes, they probably shouldn't have chosen Kanrik... I don't know, dude, you looked pretty mad when Hanso stole from you...Then again, you...kind of always look like that. ^^;
I do appreciate the little tidbits of Neopian history they slip into the dialogue though. A lot of it I wasn't aware of, so this is nice. It makes me want to go through Jellyneo and the old New Features posts. :3 Anyway, the riddles are still fun to solve (I didn't need JN's assistance this time!) and I love all the items and descriptions. This is such a cute event. <3 (Also...I cannot WAIT for tomorrow's clues/items/descriptions...Please don't disappoint for Y12!)

Ha, I managed to figure out all the clues without help today! A couple were pretty straightforward, some took a minute and some exploring, and then one I literally thought of the solution, threw it out, and realized only later that I was right the first time xP Also, I couldn't help but laugh at this exchange: Kanrik: You've never been a good liar Hannah so out with it.
Hannah: I...
Kanrik: No. We don't have time for this. We've only got four days to gather all these capsules or our chance to free the Crystal's power will be lost. I have the next clue right here...

At this point, I'm just reading the dialogue as is without expecting or hoping that it's in character. First two clues I didn't have much trouble with. The Key Quest part of the Sloth figurine feels like such a tease though, haha. It's not the first time I learned it was introduced earlier than 2010, but it still feels so surprising to me how long it had been around before I finally discovered it, probably in 2011. It felt like such a new feature for me as a person returning from a hiatus. Third clue...had me stumped. I thought it was New Features at first, but after checking that and other places, I honestly had no idea what it could be. But remembering that it should have something to do with the year (but not wanting to give up entirely yet, as I knew this should be the TFR item), I checked if JN had a list of noteworthy events per year, and they did. Scanning the list quickly showed me that the Advent Calendar Archive had been added then, and voila, clue solved. I really would never have guessed that though, omg. I wonder if my expectations would have been less if I hadn't encountered a board title of "Faeries Ruin Negg" before I actually saw the item itself? Maybe I would have just been relieved they referenced TFR at all. But I was disappointed in the design, especially since it hadn't immediately registered that that was supposed to be the artefact. The outer rim color is wrong, among other things. And I'm just not impressed with it. I was hoping for a negg that depicted either Hanso, Brynn, or Xandra on it, like the Faerie Queen Negg. Or even a petrified/stone negg would have been a good nod to both TFR and the Festival of Neggs. So yeah, it wasn't as cleverly simple as it could have been. Add to that that it's a no-trade item, which means I can't add it to my TFR gallery, well, then you just have a majorly disappointed me who rants at 4-5am about it (which I have since deleted...I apologize to everyone for that, ugh). Oh, well. I don't like it much anyway, so I probably wouldn't have liked it very much in my gallery anyway. Fourth clue was tricky. I wasn't sure if they meant literally green, but the "I have experience" and the "not a pirate" (*snort*) parts had me going to the Training School in Mystery Island first. That wasn't it. But again, thinking back to events that happened in 2011 (and I could finally draw from my own memory), the standout was the Krawk Island Disappearance event, so...I visited the Governor's Mansion. Clever riddle since you have "not a pirate" (but a governor!) and "gill" as a nod to his name. Omg, but HABI!! I guess I didn't remember that it was released in 2011...I miss it so much! The Mootix Nest is utterly adorable and officially my favorite item that they've given out now. (My previous fave also had to do with P3s...)
