And now that I did the main post, the real reason I made this board: to start complaining. Mainly about the continued tradition of JS making the Pre-Tournament Press segment as boring as possible. Not all the teams have been released but more than half of them have so let's take a quick look at what each one essentially says:
Altador: Fans angry they keep ranking low and they're keeping Foltaggio as Captain. Darigan Citadel: They're training & promising to do better. Haunted Woods: They're training & promising to do better. Kiko Lake: They're training & promising to do better. Krawk Island: Fans have settled KI being a mid tier team. Lost Desert: Due to the "plot" and rumors all able-bodied Neopets roped into voluntary service, Lost Desert was last to confirm participation. Maraqua: Hughlis went on skiing trip with family, management has no comment if he's still Captain or even on the team. Also They're training & promising to do better. Meridell: They're training & promising to do better. Moltara: Hired a new coach, which is apparently the first in AC history. Mystery Island: They're training & promising to do better. Tyrannia: Rumors that Mor Gollog is retiring after this AC. Virtupets: Pretore and Xupenfarb are spending the off-season partying.
Thrilling.
They didn't even bother with DC, HW, KL, MD, & MI. It's pretty much JS's go-to thing to talk about: the team training & promise to do better. Well no duh! Does that even need to be said? Only reason that would be interesting if that wasn't the case! How about instead of telling us that we learn a bit about the players doings off-season either as a team or individually. Though as we'll see with some of the others even that falls flat.
AL and MT are also another example of something JS likes to do: mention how low ranking the low ranking teams are and how that's affecting the team and world. Problem with this is that it's ALWAYS the same team. At this point it feels like bullying constantly pointing that out and how apparently miserable everyone is about it. Well, at least this is the case with Altador (also I like how, even though Foltaggio is now the Captain, the Team's Captain icon is still Remis). For Moltara they still mentioned they were low ranking but doing the "shocking" thing and bringing in a coach... a first time any team did in AC history? WHAT?! So at NO point did any other team hire a coach to help the team train? JS, do you realize how ridiculous this sounds? I wouldn't be surprised if most of the teams have professional coaches on the management staff, heck, a batch of players may even have personal coaches!
KI one is also kind of insulting to the fans. Since it's the Neopet players who ultimately decide who wins the AC, saying that the fans have settled with KI being a mid-tier team is like telling the players who stick with KI year around that they're not trying hard enough which is very much NOT the case from my experience. I'm going to assume JS didn't mean it like that, but it sure comes off that way. JS, since you don't pick who wins, you don't get to say what the fans think or feel. What you're supposed to be doing is giving these characters, you know, character! Personalities. Emotions. Making them feel more than a picture.
LD had the potential of being interesting... emphasis on potential. A military coup went on, rumors that able-bodied Neopets were being asked to take in volunteer work... and that's it. Only other thing said was they were the last to confirm participation. So how did the team feel about the military coup? Were any of them personally effected? Did they maybe help organize any volunteer work since they're famous figures who could inspire others to help? Is the rumor true and if so was a special exception just made for the Lost Desert team? No, you mentioned it and that was the bare minimum you could do so you're satisfied with that. Also is it really volunteer work if able-bodied Neopets are being forced into it? Wouldn't "relief effort" be a better term?
MQ also has a case of training & promise to do better, but also the constant reminder Hughlis is a horrible captain. Hughlis, Hughlis, Hughlis. Does any other member of the team exist to talk about? We get it about Hughlis, there's really no more to talk about unless something major changes with him like he gives up the Captain position, kicked off the team, or is suddenly taking things seriously. It feels like JS is just obsessed with Hughlis as he is with himself.
Do I even need to saying anything about TY? Them writing nothing would have conveyed the same message: nothing is changing this year.
VP is a bit more interesting I suppose, though they don't really go into any details. If anything it's still related to the Altador Cup Tournament as it's questioning whether this partying would effect Pretore's and Xupenfarb's performance. We don't really learn anything about them.
As more are released I'll edit this post.

On one hand, I'm glad that, so far, that it looks like there were no roster changes, especially to my favorite team (Go HW!)
On the other, I'm now kinda wondering why I was worried in the first place, since of course JS wouldn't bother making new art or character models, both for out of the game and in the game itself, and that's kind of sad in of itself...

So far, none of the wallpapers have been updated. They haven't done so since 2014. One would think they would at least redo ONE team each year as some of the wallpapers are over 10 years old. *Shrug* I guess if you don't change the team members, you don't need to update the artwork.

Okay. I've got 24802 to spend from last year's staff tourney. Any suggestions?

My Research. And while the Vibrating Office Headphones look enticing at first, note it's worth 10k while all the Bobbleheads are worth 5k. Two of the Bobbleheads equals at most as much as the Headphones, if not more. As for the two Stack of Rusty Files (at least the wearable one), I guess it's also alright but only if you plan on using it, and as I said if you're going to do that might as well just buy it with NP (same advice for the Headphones, BTW. If you're going to use it just buy it). Why am I suggesting just the Bobbleheads? Because it's likely they'll only be for this Staff Tourney and with 14 of them for 5k that means you can't buy a whole set so all players will only have a batch of them which limits each one's availability. They're more likely to become collectible items (since they're not good for anything else unlike the wearable and book) which would increase their value. So with that said you may want to consider which Bobblehead you want, sure right now Ehlo Froyo, Cma, Ppod, Ghost Pepper, and DJ Skellington may be over 60k but if EVERYONE gets them, if their price increases they may not end up the most expensive ones. But that is all up to you (personally I would buy the ones I could that made up my picked team).

Because why would anything work properly. Even events that have been running for years with minimal changes.

I'm glad I spotted that before I started. Feel bad for the people who have already been cramming in their wins for the day. =/
All I can say is that the code for this site must be an eldritch beast indeed.

Oof. Well, 'tis a tradition to have game issues on day one. Hopefully they can fix it soon.

And it rapidly becomes monotonous. Where's Atsumi when you need her?

Rank 6.
I keep swearing that one of these years I'm going to quit doing the AC, but it's always such a good excuse for me to catch up on TV and books so I guess this year is not that year. xD;

Wow, I didn't see anything about the scoring issues. In fact, if it weren't for this thread, I wouldn't have known the AC had started at all!
And now I remember how hellish it is to play YYB with a trackpad - specifically, a trackpad where the clicky buttons are part of the tactile area. It's only slightly less hellish than playing on keyboard mode. I'm lucky to score 10, when I used to go well over 15.
But you'll never guess who I have playing on my team...
Atsumi!! who knew the talented girl was also a Yooyuball star! =o (Okay I'll stop, sorry Mirsha ilu, Shenkuu gals 4lyf)
