Last year gold was 10,001 points. I figure if I can just hold on until then...

I think it's entirely fair to say that I'm getting the avvy and calling it a day. What a dreadfully inefficient system. D:

Laaaaaaaaaaaaaaag
I've been hoarding items for this all year, so I've got a long ways to go, and the system is suuuuuper slow. I'll use it as an excuse to catch up on TV and audiobooks, but meh. Hoping it gets tweaked at some point?

I'm hoping this wasn't done on purpose because sites that run on ads get more revenue the more clicks and windows that open.

It might in fact be smart to hold off on donating altogether for the time being - if people are still slogging along as best they can, all the complaining is easy enough to ignore. If people actually stop participating (whether to make a point or just because it's tedious as heck), that's active feedback to the event's setup. And right now odds are good they'll fix something over the next few days (it's set to run for two weeks. If they have two brain cells to the whole team, they won't leave it in its current state for this entire run.) In which case gritting teeth through the current lag and overall donation stupidity really isn't worth the trouble.
(Can't help but feel that the current team still think of their userbase as children; companies who are aware that their customers are adults are much better at transparency and feedback. Whereas you can cancel a Saturday morning cartoon or a beloved toy line without necessarily worrying over what the kids might say, and I'm getting the same vibe from TNT in all this.)

Done and done, I am up to the task. *dusts hands* :'D Transparent communication has been a problem for a while and is nowhere near improving. Just the copy-paste of Mirsha's face while pretending they'd come up with a new and different character seems... like they thought we wouldn't notice or care? They don't even need to drop the jolly "hey there kids" tone when answering questions if they want to keep it light, I mean, the Snarkie era content team could give useful information and joke about Dragona eating socks in the same breath...

In a way, the new system indirectly punishes those who collected a lot of items for the event, which seems counter-intuitive to the purpose of Charity Corner.

For me the idea of Charity Corner has a flaw in that it actually encourages people to hoard more during the year and then dump it all in one lag-filled fest for some measure of reward. If it were truly going to be a "gold sink" it would work more like the Rubbish avatar, where people discard without any need to keep a stock of useless items for 350-ish days of the year. I think if they figured out better ways to get rid of items and NP without unintentionally introducing more items and NP into the economy than if there were no event at all, that'd be great. Like, for instance, retire some of the really outdated dailies that only really give out CC fodder at this point. Or create a wishing well avatar (is there one?) for donating over X amount and winning. Konmari Retire thousands of older items that don't spark joy don't get a lot of use. Not saying these are great ideas (I'd have to think about the consequences more), but inflation is a huge issue and so are all of the unnecessary items clogging up space, which CC doesn't really solve for most of the year.

On a humorous note, I was going through my Tiki Tack stuff and there were just about a dozen Small Unidentified Skulls, and I can just imagine the look being given by walking in and just putting a bunch of bones in the machine and making them vanish into the aether.

The original Charity Corner (how many years ago is that now?) seemed to serve a good enough purpose converting junk into valuable items at a ratio of 5-to-1. If you got less valuable items, you could convert those right away as well, plus it had this lovely gambling appeal with instant gratification. Really its only problem was that the item categories were limited so you couldn't get rid of a lot of the actual junk. CC could hit the best of both worlds if we could 1) donate what we want, 2) get an item back for each x items we donate (make it 10-20 if you want to get rid of more than is introduced) and 3) have a fast enough way of doing it. Mebbe even do the perks on top of that. Mebbe throw in a random event/perk every 100 donations to keep things interesting. We're trying to play a game for fun fercryingoutloud.
But yes, it's a sucky way of actually clearing out server space regardless of mechanics. If they wanted to get rid of old junk... well, there should be a bunch of ways of doing that without necessarily turning it into a site event of much lag and patches. If you turn it into a game, people will play the game with all the loopholes that they find and you can't fault them for that.

The perk shop FAQ is up: www.neopets.com/charitycorner/2019/perks/faq.phtmlThey have this... really weird system for carrying over points. Instead of just a standard conversion rate, we get this sliding scale that reduces what you get the higher the points get. Like... really really weird. Not sure where they came up with the idea, or why they thought it'd be a good idea.

I'm glad they're fixing the item dump system, but then this whole carryover point system brought up another forum-outcry-inducing "feature". So I have something like 4441 points leftover from the last CC. This means that I would have: 100 +0.4*900 +0.3*3441 =1492 points. That's just... what. Did they at least pull up a basic graphing program and graph # carried over points vs. # leftover points at least??? EDIT: Did the graphs. First up, 2019 vs. 2018 points, visualized: Worth noting that if you had 100000 points from 2018, you'd get <7000 of them back in 2019. Huge dip in point return after 50000 points, but even with <50000 2018 CC points the return is ridiculously low. Here is a visual of the percentage of 2018 points you'd get back in 2019: Basically the less points you had from 2018 CC the less upset you'll be, LOL!

Your comic, "Dinner with the Scarlets: Living with Less Method", has been submitted successfully.
Click here to submit another story or comic. * Hopefully this will be out of date by Monday with the new method hardtotame promised. But I'm submitting it anyway. It's a snapshot of a moment in Neopets history, after all.

After seeing what random avies they improve the chances on, I can now freely skip that perk.
The random avies I'm missing aren't part of it.
