I'm all for this new system, because TBH in the past years I've used this event to sell off my high-rarity stuffs and donate a bit of the extra junk on the side, but with Trudy's Surprise, other inflation-related issues and me being an un-fun old crone who only plays intermittently, I've found that I don't particularly care about the moolah I can earn from this event, and getting a random item from the donations was a mixed bag of rewards. Earning points to spend introduces more of a game and strategy aspect so at least for me, its actual playing value went up nicely.
And then of course there's the entertainment factor xD Someone pass the popcorn.

So I think I have all the rarity to point levels:
r1-79+ = 1 each
r80-89+ = 2 each
r90-98+ = 6 each
r99 = 8 each
r100 = 9 each
r101+ = 1 each
I also heard r180 (and probably above) can't be donated, so Retired items are out (guess to prevent Plot items from being accidentally donated).
EDIT: Nevermind, I'm being corrected. r110 is giving more than 1 point and r200 (aka HIDDEN TOWER) is rewarding 15 points each (which is rather low, might as well make it so you can't donate them).

*eats popcorn* The Neopets userbase is calm, not hyperbolic, and completely rational. Petition for this to be added to the Memorable Quotes thread because... reasons for not venturing anywhere near the Neoboards anymore. (also, who knows how much junk items will inflate for the event; in previous years it was pretty much just the R90-99 things, many of which were 1NP Battledome prizes before the event anyways, so maybe the overlap in rewards will help a bit, although I do shed a small tear for the times when my low-value-item hoarding tendencies finally paid off a couple times) |

LotR needed the Fellowship to actually get down to the thick of the events, and Faeries' Ruin had the ragtag bunch of vagabonds (did Hanso ever give them a wacky team name? I can't remember off the top of my head but it feels like a Hanso thing to do) to provide the actual human perspective.
Would've been much more fun if the faerie dialogue we've been seeing to serve the plot had been all comical manga-style overreactions with harangued screaming, sweatdrops and thunderclouds-of-doom, but I'll grant that my taste in entertainment is kind of simple xD
(He didn't, but it does seem like a Hanso thing to do. xD)
Lol, I need to see some kind of comic like that now. XD If they don't have the capsule machine idea, at the very least I think what they could have also done was randomly have a Neopian citizen, seeking your kindness, give you an item in thanks for helping them out. They could have them be the Shopkeepers and notable characters like the Soup Faerie, Money Tree, Defenders of Neopia, and maybe others (though I'd keep them Neopia Central based or traveling characters, like maybe have Brynn and Hanso appear). That way there's some immediate reward to hold you over until the prize shop. I really like this idea.  Plus, the fangirl in me would absolutely *die* if Hanso and Brynn personally gave me an item, lol. |

The petition has been filed, read and passed xD ...Dang, the last Memorable Quote we had on this forum was from last summer. I remember a time when we had a few new ones every other day or so. Actually this also feels like a good time to plug the MQ candidates thread which I'm pretty sure has been ded for even longer. I could also pick 'em as I float around the forum, but in truth I'd long since forgotten that MQs exist :'D *wanders off to be That Guy and donate a bunch of rotten boots to the cause* |

Hah, I was wondering if HT items would be donatable and how many points they'd be. I'm torn between not believing someone actually tried it, and totally believing someone actually tried it. Also it looks like points aren't strictly based on rarity. I donated five Golden Dubloon foods (cheap ones, don't ask why I have them), which are r100, and got 8 points each, not 9. |

Well, guess now's a good as time as ever to clean out the junk in my SDB. Not to mention I hope this will finally get rid of some of the rotten boots, seaweed, and cinder blocks clogging up the Money Tree. At least for a little bit.  |

(in any case, at this point I'm donating all my egregiously-spare lower-rarity and Special items, and saving the Super/Ultra Rare ones for a bit in case they inflate)
