I'm terribly behind on this event, but I still think I'll give it a try anyway. Started reading Chapter 1. A lot of characters to keep track of, luckily there's the handy list of characters on the first post of the roleplay. I'll probably do a lot of skimming so I can catch up with everyone else on the discussion here. Surprised to see that a car crash ended up being such an event in the first chapter, considering the time period. Ah, the fun wackiness of roleplays.

I'm quite behind as well (still on chapter 1 here, too), but any discussion for any points of the RP are welcome regardless xD (just be warned that spoilery things might be talked about more openly than earlier in the event) But yes, feast round was great fun and I can't wait to catch up so I can get to that glorious closet oh my woo

Doing more readings, and with them comes commentary! This is for Round 5 i.e. Feast Round. Please note I mostly do this in slow times at work, so there isn't as many comments, but I will do my best. ^^ Elcie I believe here is the origin of the "slaves are furniture" meme. Poor Xavier, he is just so miserable, I am looking forward to when later in the round he gets hugs. The collab with Gelquie was also really bittersweet, and I think this was where I begun to 'ship them way back when. They definitely care for each other a lot, and Xavier's utter defeat is heartbreaking. It is also interesting to think of what Elin is thinking of this situation, since she is a Shadow. And then Ambrose collab...;_; I can't stop loving their relationship. Woob-dad and woob-son forever. Also, fun fact for anybody reading that collab, I finished it at 4 am when I was due to have a 10 am appointment the next day. Ah, good times. Birdy Oh my gosh, the post with Arthur and the knights who are revealed to be his brothers is heartbreaking. There is so much emotion there that it hurts. For some reason I never appreciated that way back during the original game (or if I did, I forgot) but dang, that hit me right in the gut. Avery JORCEY. All of the stuff about Joram that is mentioned in this round is really hilarious in hindsight, considering the fic you wrote much later about him. Kelcey seriously plays things up. Also, there are some bits of foreshadowing, intentional or not, that are really darkly hilarious when you know what happens later. 8D; Rosalie Dylas (Maddy) Oh gosh, Rosalie in this is both so cute and so sad when Jorcey begins bothering her. I do love how much she enjoys the attention from Laurie, and Liou, by that same token, I also adore how much Laurie fawns over her. Unlike with Garrick, which is a little weird and creepy, Laurie seems to genuinely like and care about Rosie. It is why they are so 'shippable. Also, Liou, this is the first mention of Laurie's noticing of Alain, and it amused me, given...well, everything. x3 PFA Ah, the beginnings of Drunk!Joff. Such shenanigans will be had later. 83 Shinko I really enjoyed the introduction of Morgaine's life in the elf lands, and mention of her kids, although the mention of the dragon to Kaldora is another one of those things that is interesting in hindsight. It has acquired a much more melancholy tone than the first mention of it now, signalling the development into what it becomes. Also, wow, her takedown of Jorcey. Going to need some ice for that burn. Jayeee "“The pleasure's yours, i'm sure.” He held out his own hand for Joffrey to kiss while he turned his attention back to the princess. “Perhaps Garrick Stallion can even gallop into your heart one day too.”" Oh my, hello, Suitorshipping. x3 I am loving how much Garrick is trying to hold himself back and is compulsively failing. And then he gets a bird in his long beautiful blond hair. I'd almost feel sorry for him, but it is Garrick so...no, sorry. And oh my gosh, I completely forgot he had fallen into Leif's lap. xDDD Tiger, yeah, using magic on a Stallion would probably make the feast even worse than it already was. Glad that Leif restrained that impulse, despite having a Garrick on his lap. That had to be a feat, given that it's Garrick. But it amuses me that it was the stone bird that caught his eye. Birdnerd loves all birds. <3 And yeees, the pieces of the 'shipping closet are already falling into place. Sidenote I want to mention here, the feast round is wonderful to read with the knowledge of Drunk As Lords. All feasts seem to be an exciting time in the Raven's Keep when Jades and Stallions are invited. xDD Liou " No one could understand such beautiful, delicate young men, what they felt every day, the way other people looked at them. No one knew how hard it was, being a man looking the way he did." Yes, it is tough being a bishie with long blond hair, isn't it, Laurie? D= *reads down the post* Oh. Hello, foreshadowing. And just like with Morgaine, I adore how Laurie handled Jorcey. Oops, err...Ambrose, that vision about the Wooformation is not accurate at all. xD; Yay for worldbuilding leaving things behind in the dust. Carriconism and Ranumgenism already exists, as the religions of Courdon and Lange respectively. As well as a few others. So idk what Ambrose saw. TV show? Heh, Shinko, is that tacit approval of your future adoptive-child-in-law in Laurie there for scaeing off Jorcey? Nice. x3 ""Behave. Stay out of the politics of nobles. Keep the queen happy. It is in your interests," his voice had a fine, razor-sharp edge. "Or you will end up dead. The how can you chase your skirts?"" Freaking heck, Alain, you and your future vision. >< You always know, you jerk. Killix, Tiger, PFA, Pixie, Coaster, all of the 'shipping closet stuff makes me much happier than it should. From Leif's line about only meeting Kirin when furniture is involved, to Kaldora's BSOD, to Ilaria being a drunken cuddly darling, to poor Kirin being a butt monkey, all of it is wonderful. And bless Kristy for getting everyone into the closet for even more shenanigans even if it was slightly godmoddy. Also, now let's all imagine what would happen if Alain had fallen in too... And I hope you enjoyed that round, everyone, because things will get so much darker from here on out. Cerebus syndrome hits.

I think the introductory post that Avery and I wrote for round six was probably one of my personal favorites 1 in the entire game, if we're being honest with ourselves. The actions that people submitted at the end of round five happened to coincide really nicely, and i remember us thinking "how are we going to fit all these pieces together?" Game mechanics/action stuff under the jump (spoilers probably) There was a really nice mechanics parallelism between the Archmage and the Inventor that ended up working well from a mechanical perspective—both groups discovered their tier four major action the same round, and we wanted to raise the stakes for everyone. The two actions were mechanically equivalent (the team could use the action to kill off one character, eliminating their actions for the rest of the game, but it was the ONLY move that faction could perform that evening).
Neither group knew the exact mechanic of the other, but there were enough context clues for each to realize the other had some kind of powerful action up their sleeve. Tension! The Jailbreak sequence did have a mechanical tie-in, but mostly tbh we really only wanted to write more banter between the Shadows, because that was honestly just a fun group of characters to have in the same scene. We justified it with Arthur leaving two extra coins "for expenses" to accompany the equivalent of paying for bail. 1not my above-all favorite, but we'll get to that bridge later on

And I agree, the parallels were lovely. And if your favourite narrator post is the post I am thinking of...can I remind you that I am still owed heart meds for that? =P

Reactions! PFA Ginz ❤ Ahaha, Charles’ poor shoes. Remind me again, wasn’t there a mission called “Throw Up On Everyone”? Because Corrine seems well on her way. Avery Oh man that Destiney post. :,D What’s the trope? Harsher in Hindsight? Celestial House Stallion has a water filtration system? XD Killix Poor Kirin. I recall not thinking he’d actually help clean up the bodies, Morgaine was mostly being sarcastic there. He surprised and impressed her! Lizica I am still sad Morgaine never interacted with Standorf and Waller because the snark would have been GLORIOUS. That said, poor poor Aldrich, he just can’t catch a break. Tiger Nerdmage gonna nerd- Leif’s reaction to all the statues was really cute. X3 PFA Yes Joff, murdered people always calls for a song. Well timed boi. Gelquie Maaan I feel so bad for Clare. She has no idea what’s going on and just wants her niece back. Celestial Nice try Alain, Morgaine is more shrewd than you give her credit for. Avery Ah Yup, there it is. Concussion number three for poor Kelcey. Lizica I feel like I’m missing a reference, who’s the “Miss Macy” the limerick pot mentions? Regardless, convo between Leif and Aldrich is really sweet. Great character development for both of them. Liou ahaha.. haha... ha. Laurie. Just. Laurie.

Man, Charles really took off as a character literally the instant I named him, didn't he? XD The true danger of brooms, kids. PFA Yes Joff, murdered people always calls for a song. Well timed boi. But it was a song of MOURNING, it's the only proper way to respect the dead ;_; (Been pretty busy so I'm a bit behind, might try and come up with some more detailed comments later lol)

Choice quotes from posts with context and commentary and such stuck under the jumps below Children splashed in the shallows of Lake Plume, disregarding their mothers’ cries to be “careful that Merri doesn’t snap you up!” (which simply made the children roll their eyes, because everyone knew that Merri the Lake Plume Monster was just a tale, and their mothers were merely trying to sully their fun). fun fact, Avery and I totally had plans for this lake monster to become a major thing, actually pretty early on in the process if I recall correctly? It was either when I was drawing the Medieville map or pretty soon afterward that we had a conversation that was essentially along the lines of: ultimately the plot ended up needing to go in a different direction and as much as i wanted to try and shoehorn Merri in, we couldn't find a way to do so without being ridiculously contrived. (actual plot spoilers under the second jump) we initially just set up the monster as a plot device that we could pick up later on down the line; when we realized the courdonian battle was going to take place we were like. is it going to happen in the keep? is it going to happen in the city below? is there a way it could spill into the merchant district and from there onto the lake and we could have a massive beastly lake monster turtle knock some courdonian heads together?
alas, it was not meant to be ;-; avery is a narrative despot also, because i don't think it ever came up anywhere else: Merri was short for Merriam, which is what we affectionately nicknamed the monster as an homage to the other very good fictional hard-shelled animal whose existence confounded and confused characters in a previous ntwf roleplay ;0 Winsbury sighed as he watched the several dozen porters, servants, and various sundry assistants overseeing the princesses. Of course the girls had wanted to attend the summer festival, and while it was technically a time for mourning, Winsbury couldn't help but wonder what harm a little bit of sunlight and music could do, right? I think this was the post when i decided Winsbury might actually be worth holding onto as a minor-sized NPC; up until this point he had mostly just been in the background doing his Heraldic Overseer business, but it was fun to write this bit as kind of a moment in the limelight for him.
i had forgotten the phrase "heavily detailed (and also heavily heavy) statue", i'll have to hold onto that one. "Alright," the girl said as she practiced a few chords on her lyre, "this next song is one about that most notable member of House Ascension who we all know and love, am I right?" This raised a cheer and several laughs, which obscured the next part of what she said, but they died down as she began to sing. i'm not gonna lie y'all, of all the posts i wrote (narrator posts and collaborations notwithstanding) this one might be my favorite in the entire game. up until this point, in Medieval, Aines has been pretty horribly cynical (with good reason!) and i hadn't really found a whole lot of opportunities to showcase other parts of his personality. giving him this scene to let down his feathers was good, especially given the role he ends up filling in a lot of scenes moving forward. i really just wanted an excuse to have some good banter, and there was a good smattering of that in this scene. i'd never really put a whole lot of thought into what sort of thoughts ran through your average Medievillian's head when they realized that their entire city (heck, the entire Kingdom of Kyth) rests — to some degree — on the shoulders of a talking bird. there's no world in which you take that realization and don't turn it into some kind of massive joke. in hindsight, the not-quite-rhyming-swears that i included in this post were. maybe not the classiest thing when it comes to trying to skirt around the forum's rules >_> but i think me from 3.5 years ago was pretty tasteful about it at least, good job past me i suppose Also, i never actually posted this anywhere, but at some point kind of a while back i got bored and wrote up a full version of the bard's song from this post! The lyrics in the version under the cut are a bit tamer than the original, but of course the whole point of the song is to poke fun at Aines so if you want to make any mental substitutions i'm not really in a position to stop you << The Foulest of Fowls, director's cutTM
As I was a-strolling through Medieville fair, The royal advisor stopped me 'round the square "You've not paid your taxes", he started to shriek, In a voice that was ashen and yelled from a beak!
Yes as he harangued me, I found it absurd To see myself being chastised by a bird And as he continued, I'd say it was luck That t'was only these strings that I wanted to pluck!
{Chorus} He soars o'er the Keep, and he keeps getting sorer, He'll croak nevermore, to the whole city's horror! The foulest of fowls, yes he gives us all pains, He's a stark raven fool, that old Master Aines!
He perched and he hollered, he hollered and perched, And cried that my name would forever be smirched! I thought of the coins that I kept in my sack, And I clutched to my lute and I shouted right back:
"This part of the town is public dominion! Your role in this wing is a matter of pinion! You'll not find a friend here, no kind sympathizer, You'd best fly away, mister Royal Advisor!"
{Repeat chorus}
{Bridge} Well I stood 'mong the stalls and the stands And refused to accede his demands And I showed him, oh I showed him That a bird in the air is worth two in your hands!
So next time you think you might stroll through the town, Watch out for that bird of such horrid renown; And if you're afeared of a heated dispute, Just shoo him away with a kick of your boot!
But here comes a thought that evades comprehension: What have you to fear from old puffed-up Ascension? Some coward you'd be, to be made to eat crow by a black-feathered bird who's a fair-weather foe…
{Repeat chorus 2x} He soars o'er the Keep, and he keeps getting sorer, He'll croak nevermore, to the whole city's horror! The foulest of fowls, yes he gives us all pains, He's a stark raven fool, that old Master Aines!
The foulest of fowls, yes he gives us all pains, He's a stark raven fool, that old Master Aines!

Lizica I feel like I’m missing a reference, who’s the “Miss Macy” the limerick pot mentions? Regardless, convo between Leif and Aldrich is really sweet. Great character development for both of them. Aw, yay, thank you for the nice words! ^^ I have good memories of writing that collab with Tiger. And man, yeah, seeing Morgaine meet the busts would have been great. xP About the limerick reference: Standorf and Waller's first forum game actually wasn't Medieval; it was Clue. In it, Miss Macy is the head of household for Mr. Woo's mansion, and the staff and the piano have to put up with the busts every once in a while (on top of everything else that goes wrong in the story). ((Obligatory disclaimer to say that the RP was never completely finished.)) It probably doesn't fit with what all you guys have done with the Medieval universe, but hey, we're the Netwuff, and random fun character references happen (especially when Muppet expies are involved). xP Edit: icon , your full song is amazing!! XDD Your rhyming beats and puns are so on point.

Re the collab, this was a fun one to write for sure ^^ This was my super-late-night collab, it went up at 2:30 am my time - but no regrets =D Major role spoilers ahead, but to add to the atmosphere of the scene: The Shadows had just recently discovered Leif was the archmage, and obviously the death spells had just been revealed. Lizica mentioned later, after the game was over, that Aldrich had both those things in mind during this conversation =D (I'm kinda behind on my reading; I'll carve out some time this weekend to catch up & write reactions for sure though!)

Getting some reading and reactions in for Round 6. \o/ As usual, beware vague spoilers as I laugh at any foreshadowing I find. Shinko and Elcie, I really love the interaction between Ilsa and Morgaine in this round. They are both quite similar, being shrewd business ladies, so it was good to see them talk, even if the circumstances around it were not the most happy. I also have to love their reactions to Kelcey being dressed as a Courdonian noble. xD Ilsa's especially "He owes me money!" Also "Let's not threaten the royal adviser with sharp edged metal objects." made me smile far more than it should have done. There is also reference to Morgaine asking for because because she did not want to be drunk, but I remembered certain roleplays and broke out laughing. On a similar note, Elcie and Tiger, the conversation between Leif and Xavier is very sweet. I am glad they are having this interaction, as it is long overdue for Leif to clear things up for Xavier. It is also nice to see another, far kinder side to Leif than we have seen before, at least with someone who is not Kirin. It is a really nice start to what their relationship will become, and knowing where they will go, this beginning feels totally natural. All their talk about Jades and slavery does make me think what Everett thought of Xavier's misconception...hmm...need to go find that fic PFA wrote (if it exists and is not a figment of my imagination. But I am sure it is real.) Lizica ""My ideas are great," Babewyn said with a grin" *laugh track* Poor Aldrich. xD I love Babewyn, but they are such opposites, and she does so much to make him...maybe not miserable, but exasperated and uncomfortable. And he clearly has such a good time, what with being attacked by a drunken man with a sword later and seeing his own sculpture become Demongoat. 8D Killix The Leif dream, oh my goodness. I had forgotten about this. It is beautiful. Kireif is slowly coming together. 8D PFA Hello Charles, welcome to ascended broomhood. xD Kidding aside, this is a very tense collab with Gelquie. It was fantastic to read this battle of wits between them, and how hard Elin is fighting to resist the spell. Her determination comes across nicely. I can believe she is a rebellion leader. @myself Ambrose-dream was a clumsy attempt at foreshadowing, and with that developed more now, I would change it if I could rewrite it. But I still like the atmosphere of it. Lizzie Karma is both very terrifying and very woob, and this post where she wakes up from her dream and then goes and rips off a chunk of hair from a peasant shows it off perfectly. I love her. Liou I had not forgotten about Laurie fawning over House Stallion and Alain in front of Alain himself. Re-reading it was still delicious. Such dramatic, much irony, wow. PFA Drunk-Joff is best Joff. Especially drunk-Joff in Alain's arms. What's that, two generations of jade lords drunken in his arms now? ;D @myself again "He had seen drunken mermaids off the Albion coast." Okay, Alain, I have questions and you need to answer them for me. Please? Also: ""Give up your dreams, girl, he's already got a wife."" And this was the origin of the Queen of my Feels. Furthermore, I must apologise for the clumsy way I tried to contact the Shadows, Alain. ;_; I keep saying I'm sorry, and I am. I ruined all your plans.
