I am confused about the character Reizo/Malum. From the Neopedia about Kaia we learn that Reizo is her friend from Shenkuu. I don't know what species he is or color. He has known Kaia a long time.
Was Reizo his original/created/true form? Did he somehow get deceived by the Darkest Faerie or forced into her service? Did she force him to morph into a new form and take a new identity?
Or was Malum his created/orignal/true form? So that he has existed a long time, has a history with the Darkest Faerie? Did he escape her, take on a new identity and befriend Kaia?
What is his true form? I kind of think he was orignally Malum and has existed a good long time. Maybe he wished to escape his past and went to Shenkuu, which seems to be very far away.
It is really weird to think that it must take days and days of travel to get around neopia, yet we just click on a place and wisk our pets away in seconds.
But according to the Neopedia, Kaia has been longing to visite Faerie Land but it was so far away and so different from her life at Shenkuu.
So It makes sense then that Malum could just take on a new name and hide out in Shenkuu. Maybe he was hoping for redemption of some sort or to befriend a friendlier Faerie who in turn might protect him from the Darkest Faerie and maybe even all the other Faeries, once he is found out.
But Kaia is going to have to decide which is his true form. The Reizo she thought she knew or the Malum she sees before her.
The fact that Fyora just leaves them to finish talking seems to indicate to me that Malum is fully healed and that she is looking at his true and orignal form. If his true form is Reizo, he should have taken that form. Fyora could have healed him, surely, since she is back to full power. Either that, or she could have handed them a cheap paint brush or morphing potion. The fact that she doesn't do that and just walks away means that she is giving Kaia a chance to learn the truth.
I actually want to see more of Malum. Maybe what he would look like in different clothing or just what he would look like if he weren't so brooding. Take away the cape and the weird amulet and sword and stuff. Just standing looking like someone's pet, yet with some purply swirly magical essence to him.

With the new step, it’s not time sensitive as in must be done today, right? Because I don’t know if I want to try on my phone. Well at least not tonight. Might be better on my phone since I can zoom in though? (unspoiler'd because doesn't say anything about the step's plot) (also for the benefit of folks who might have trouble due to page size) You can zoom in and out on your desktop/laptop browser as well, if you need to, by holding Ctrl and pressing +/- (Ctrl+0 to reset), or holding Ctrl and scrolling the mouse wheel.

Yes, I did that, and I got it done a few hours ago. Wish they would have had a count for how many more you needed, thou. I managed to get them all the first try, and without any hints.

So it appears that we're in the final days of the plot.

Why do they keep advertising the Yurble chests when the ability to buy them is not available anymore?

Why do they keep advertising the Yurble chests when the ability to buy them is not available anymore? They still show up in the Mall when you search, although I didn't try to actually buy one because I'm not sure if it'd work, what with the description saying that the last day to open chests is December 10. Also, if the plot is suddenly almost-over and Fyora is apparently "annual faerie quest event gogogo!" (dangit, girl, you got up five minutes ago, at least have a meal first) does this mean that TDF's plot involvement was just in the form of a quick battledome flash (agh, not cool) or that there'll be an awkward plot-end-exposition overlapping with the quests? That's a lot of multitasking on the faeries' part.

The Daily Faeries quests are starting today? Had I known that I would have selected the Refresh Request boon! *Sigh* Oh well.

So anyone recall that early on, someone looked at the source code and figured out that points were being awarded based on whether you visited the HQ page every day of the plot?
Given how much longer the event ran than it was probably supposed to, I hope they put a cap on the number of days players were expected to be there. I can be pretty good about doing events day-of for like... a month, but at six months since launch I'd be shocked if anyone really visited every single day.

All it was was a hidden achievement for visiting every day rather than any kind of inbuilt tracker. It's highly likely that the achievement was scrapped before the plot even started, since no other achievements were put into the source code ahead of time like that (the only time leaked achievements appeared, they were displayed fully on the page).

Although the one exception, imo, was the first two seasons of Legend of Korra. I probably would have reacted better to fanfiction.

The plot didn't so much suffer from bad writing (well, that too :'D) but there just hasn't been enough of it to get the story across. I took a look at the dialogue transcripts and they amount to roughly ten standard pages, which is two days of a translator's average output (one if there's a deadline crunch. I have 18 pages I have to finish by tomorrow >>) In order to spread that across six months and get the plot thoroughly conveyed at the same time, relying only on dialogue and no descriptions or supporting narrative of any kind, you'd have to be some sort of Terminator Hemingway 2.0.
Fraze and I bounced around the idea - like the terrible nerds that we are in this household xD - that once it became clear that steps would start dragging out and got delayed because of code issues or whatever other distractions, they really could've just written some filler. Like, not even going on and on about wraiths in every update ad nauseam, but just releasing weekly blurbs of characters yammering about stuff and things. Pets in the infirmary nerding out over Fyora being there with them. Faeries talking about new releases of some soap opera when Aethia's no-nonsense back is turned. Kaia making references to some sort of a teen fad (man, the site used to be full of pop culture references). All sorts of running injokes building up. Could've had a bunch of dialogue snippets cropping up all over the site, with random pets and site characters trying to carry on with their everyday lives in wraith- and fog-occupied Neopia, griping about a delivery to a café being late again because there's a war on. And then players could've had fun discovering various snippets like these throughout the site. And if that'd been kept up for six months, there would've been plenty of space to flesh out the plot with various bits of information provided from various characters.
srsly I just would've liked to see them have fun with this plot. I don't care if a plot is Clever and Original and twisty-turny and gasp-inducing and I can enjoy funky writing in a guilty-pleasure sort of way if it was just entertaining.

Dialogue throughout the site would have been great. We could have heard from shopkeepers, famous Neopians (so that all the fan squeal), even the drama as you mentioned before.
I was writing to Zoey yesterday that I would have liked more character motivation for Malum, too. I know Kaia was seriously bullied in Shenkuu. Maybe Malum was her only friend and once she left, the bullies focused on their taunts on the friendless Lupe. When the bullying reached a breaking point, he sought a way to get back and them... and foolishly thought that TDF would help him achieve that revenge. Of course, all of that backfired and he was instead tainted by darkest's magic.
Or something. It's good nt fuel, anyway.

HuntressI don't know if Kaia being into fidget spinners and eating tide pods is the best takeaway from your thoughtful post but that's the image I have in my head now. ... the youths these days

Bet this whole thing will be great for her youtube channel though.
