Most, if not all of this is in my Diary thread but I thought it would be nice to have it all in one place where you don't have to scroll through wordswordswords. I'm a beginner, but I'm trying to get better. I'll start with my earliest stuff, which is kinda bad. My own work: Other people's models (model kits, Warhammer): A Nausicaa model kit, with a sculpted base- Promethium Pipes for Warhammer 40k. I actually like these-

So I've been doing a lot at the shop, though I'm taking a break from that at the moment. The lighting there is terrible so all the pics are fairly bad. And a quick pick of the giant pile of Shadow Wars/Necromunda terrain- At home I tried to paint a piece for an online contest, but I hated what I did a whole lot. lol. One part turned out ok, my attempt at Non-Metallic Metals (NMM), ie painting silver when you don't have silver paint. It's a good start but it needs a LOT more work to smooth the transitions and make it look shiny. It's a bit too much like stone. I've got even more Tyrannids but I need to sort and crop the pictures, which I shouldn't do right now because I have a commission of Space Marines I need to get back to work on. And of course even more Tyrannids waiting to be painted!

So about those Space Marines! That is as close to the official box art as I could manage. (The blue and gold helmets were a request, they mean something specific...?) I love trying to copy the box art, because it stops me from settling in to techniques I already know how to do. So this one was a ton of edge highlight practice (still pretty thick in places) and a pretty good amount of freehanding. Each guy got a teardrop on one shoulder, several got them on a kneepad, plus the tabard. Let's please ignore how demented the logo on the tabard looks. Edit: Side pic to show the logos on the pauldrons, and a close up of this vampire guy because I'm totally tickled by him. Shot on a different background because the white kept messing with my color correction. I also got to spend a little time on Sunday at PAX unplugged, the big new tabletop convention conveniently located in my town. It was my first time getting to see professionally painted models in person. Several game companies brought their studio-painted samples and it was BOSS. This www.belloflostsouls.net/2016/12/arena-rex-painting-ywain-and-dextarius-part-1.html horse was there, along with other completely unbelievable stuff for Arena Rex. Privateer Press also brought a whole display case of stuff. I didn't find them until the show was almost over, which is just as well because I think I could have stood there all day! XD

And here are the rest of the Tyranids for the year- Winged Hive Tyrant from June (There's nothing here for scale but she is absolutely huge) A Trio of Venomthropes from July- And a Lictor, a pair of Biovores, and half a dozen Spore mines From August/September- New Year's Goals- get a better work/photography setup. At this point I should stop treating it like it's temporary. I've got 8 more Tyranids half done, and a box of strange guys that 'need touch-ups' that I have nooo idea what to do with. Then that should be it for them. On my own stuff, I've started some Lizardmen. I've got a little squad of infantry airbrushed and waiting for brushwork. It's hard to find time for them but I want to make time. They're so cute. I also got an absolutely beautiful undead crocodile for Christmas that I want to play with.

There's this absolutely sick painter that goes by Monstroys. They did a really cool tutorial about making fire out of cotton, which I attempted. Not great but a decent first attempt. This is a quickie base for a model I just finished- hopefully you'll see it Wednesday. I've also since added some matte varnish so this looks less like a chocolate cake at parts.

So remember that Nausicaa model kit in the first post of this thread? I was very happy to be able to revisit that film two years later with another kit I bought on the same trip to LA. This was the Teto from the first kit: And this is the Teto from the most recent kit. He goes right on her shoulder- I entered it in to my first model painting competition! I won silver in the anime category.

Boy, I haven't posted here in a long time. And I see I need to fix that last post at some point. I feel like I've improved- slowly- and I'm also at a point where I'm a little frustrated with myself. Boy, I hate taking pictures. Color fidelity is better on a neutral background, gotta get something better than an Old Navy sweater. I've got my work featured on the official Games Workshop site a few times- www.games-workshop.com/en-US/Arachnarok-Spider-2017www.games-workshop.com/en-US/Blood-Bowl-TrollSo that feels pretty nice. I entered the same contest that I did last year, where I entered the Gator guy. Still didn't place, but got an honorable mention this time! I won a coffee mug. XD More importantly, I got a feedback session where a very good painter gave me some pointers on what worked and what didn't, which was amazing. This is my entry, which is for sure the best thing I've painted so far- I have not done a lot of NMM (non-metalic metal, ie painting metal without using paint with metal flecks in it) and I suuuuuuck. I also want to use more texture in my painting, have a better understanding of lighting (any at all to be frank). So much to work on! So little time!
