Oh man this almost looks like a watercolour painting. So cool! I love all the bright colours, I love how the water turned out, and the little worm-like friend on the top of the staff is the cutest little thing (even if I suspect, given that this looks a whole lot like a goblin, that it's being used for some nefarious purpose.) Congrats on getting featured on the site- that is, if possible, even cooler!
If I had insta I would defs follow you, as it is I'll still check out your stuff. xD Really excited to see more of your painting again, thanks for sharing!

Teow, I was wondering, what paints do you use? I want to upgrade from cheap acrylics for my sculptures but I know nothing. Your stuff always looks amazing so I thought I'd ask!

Teow, I was wondering, what paints do you use? I want to upgrade from cheap acrylics for my sculptures but I know nothing. Your stuff always looks amazing so I thought I'd ask! Thank you for asking, I'm sorry to leave you hanging for a bit. I do like to talk shop so I hope I don't ramble on too much. So, the paints I primarily use are Citadel base paints and Golden High Flow acrylics. Citadel is a hobby-specific paint, and it's great to use because it has a really high amount of pigment, and most of the colors are really opaque. They are a bit on the expensive side, even for hobby paints, but I really like them. They also make great washes (they call them shades). If you're looking for something cheaper but still good, a lot of stores carry Vallejo- either their Model Color, Game Color, or one of their other paint lines. Another good inexpensive brand is Reaper, but I've only used a few of their colors because no one sells them around here. All of these brands have a really wide variety of colors if you hate mixing. Golden High Flow, while I like it a lot, I'm not sure I'd recommend it. It's excellent paint but it's got a bit of a learning curve and can be a pain in the butt. First off, it dries really really glossy. It can look kind of bad and gross before you put a satin or matte finish on it. Also it has the same problem that a lot of artist's paint has, and that is a lot of the colors are really transparent. That sucks for getting the base colors mapped out- get a color in the wrong place and it takes ages to cover it up. It's good for any application that requires really light, thin coats though, like glazing, layering, etc. and it's super for airbrushing. Paints that I would avoid- in hobby paints, I really don't like Army Painter stuff. They're very cheap paints and they feel like it, the coverage is so bad. You probably want to avoid any paint brand that requires their own thinner and can't be thinned with water like Tamiya or Mr. Hobby. If you don't have any hobby shops around and you're trying to make do at an art store, avoid anything labeled 'student' 'beginner', etc. I made the mistake starting out of getting a box set of Liquitex Basics and that stuff is nothing but suffering. Low pigment load + transparent paints = 7 layers of paint to get a smooth base coat, it was truly terrible. It's not that they're a bad brand (I love their inks, lots of people swear by their Heavy Body paints) but it's wrong for what I was trying to do. If I missed something important or you need me to expand on anything, do let me know. Oh man this almost looks like a watercolour painting. So cool! I love all the bright colours, I love how the water turned out, and the little worm-like friend on the top of the staff is the cutest little thing (even if I suspect, given that this looks a whole lot like a goblin, that it's being used for some nefarious purpose.) Also, thank you very much for your kind comments. I also love the worm friend, it was my favorite part of the whole figure.

It's cool, I saw you hadn't been online for a bit when I posted that so I wasn't expecting a response straightaway. And thanks, that's very helpful! I'll probably start on Vallejo and consider upgrading down the line. If I have follow-up questions I'll be sure to hit you up!
