Lol, looks like they forgot to color his teeth white/made them transparent. Anyway if my Neopets went with specific teams I think Firo would go with Meridell, Freezo with Terror Mountain, and Gala I'd imagine wouldn't be loyal to one team. Also, bringing a conversation over, @fangofthedead pointed out that JS seems to have given some of the teams actual names. Here they are as well as my thoughts: Altador: None given (how about "Gladiators"?) Brightvale: Wizards (would have gone for "Scholars" myself) Darigan Citadel: MinionsFaerieland: COMING SOON (mine would be "Soarers") Haunted Woods: None given (how about "Spooks"? I know they were once called "goons" but that was just to rhyme with "moon" as they were facing Kreludor) Kiko Lake: None given (how about "Lakers"? If Brightvale can have the same name as a real world team, why not others? Though if you want something more original how about "Splashers") Krawk Island: None given (would "Pirates" be too obvious?) Kreludor: None given (how about "Lunars"?) Lost Desert: COMING SOON (mine would be "Pharaohs") Maraqua: MermaidsMeridell: None given (you gotta go with "Knights") Moltara: None given (how about "Steamers"?) They haven't given them names as such - what's happened, sadly, is that JS have no idea about any of the teams. So they have done the thing all JS employees seem to do, click the first link on Google and use that without any fact checking.
In this case, the first result on Google for Team *Landname* is TDN's team recap pages. The thing with TDN's AC coverage is that it is deliberately fleshed out with non-canon information. They do recap posts where they describe the action of each match and have interviews with the AC players. In the case of these team recap pages, they also include US Football style names for each team.
JS have seen these names, possibly seen the link is TDN so assumed they are canon, and used them. Making fan work canon in the process. Although the others haven't shown up, they are:
Altador Suns
Brightvale Wizards
Darigan Citadel Minions
Faerieland Faeries
Haunted Woods Zombies
Kiko Lake Kikos
Krawk Island Pirates
Kreludor Moons
Lost Desert Mummies
Maraqua Mermaids
Meridell Knights
Moltara Magmas
Mystery Island Natives
Roo Island Rooligans
Shenkuu Ninjas
Terror Mountain Chillers

Everybody is a native of somewhere. I'd rather be the Mystery Island Ninjas, reminding everyone to remember where the Ninjas really are. Not in Shenkuu, thank you. And I would love it if the Krawk Island team name was the Cutthroats. Pirates are good too, but too.. bland, I guess? OR BETTER YET THE KILLERS |

From these headlines I want to hear what the teams have done away from the Yooyuball court unless they have something more to say than "we're practicing hard so we can win the cup". Now a few are okay like Altador, Brightvale, Kiko Lake, Maraqua, & Virtupets. But Darigan Citadel, Haunted Woods, Krawk Island, Kreludor, Meridell (  ), Moltara, Roo Island, Terror Mountain, & Tyrannia are boring. I remember past headlines telling us about the time Team Meridell went apple picking, Darigan's Reshar Collifey getting lost in the Neovian Catacombs Vaults, and Tyrannia's "Spikes" Barmie starting his own fashion line. That said, from all the headlines it does sound like maybe we'll be seeing changes in team line-ups? |

Seems doubtful. All team images have been uploaded and they are the same as last year. Unless JS pull a last minute image switch, we'll be seeing the same teams.

So, we have a repeat of last year's cut and paste fiasco, only this time, it's minor (actually, it's something we should have expected given recent cases involving newly released items). And while we have yet to see anything major, don't rule it out just yet.

Team Lost Desert & Shenkuu bios are up today (nothing interesting in them sadly, just more talk about how the team did in previous AC and are training hard to win this year blah blah blah). Though Shenkuu didn't receive a name/nickname, Lost Desert did: Mummies. So yup, they're using TDN's names. Should someone send them a ticket/editorial question telling them?

Also, LD's blurb is (like HW's) completely wrong. Last year they finished 4th. From 16th the year before. So actually, they did the exact opposite of what the blurb says they did.

The best I can come up with is that they are using TDN's coverage and last years results and somehow mixing the two up in their minds, and then not checking.
Many of TDN's pages that come up first in google last had an update in AC8. If they've used them, then that fits for LD (since in AC8 they were on a downward slope). But that doesn't add up for HW (since no matter which year you use, there's no result worse than dead last), or the error with KI (they finished 7th, not 9th, and have never finished 9th in any year).
