"I... I am Luke!" He answered. He crouched down to greet the thing. "You're a Luke? That's a cool species name. I'mma Stitcher Crack." the little one responded enthusiastically, holding out their small hands to Luke. "Krakkurik" the adult corrected. The little one shrugged and gave Luke a large and toothy grin. Their face looked like worms had crawled under the skin and left twisted trails. "I was reborn today!" one of the others exclaimed. "I was too! And me!" the others chimed in as they gathered around the friendly stranger. They carried the same type of disfigurement as the first. "Oh? Born.. again? Did you.. unbirth?" He tilted his head

"You're a parasite? Stitchers are symbiotic, the host is still who they were after the infection. Just without memories, in the case of Secondaries. I am a Primary, and I have many memories of before I became a Stitcher. I'm still the same person."

Our minds meld together to become what they are, which is why it is important for Stitchers to not infect animals."

Those are.. animals. Unless they are.. plants?" "Both! Being a Primary means I can talk to other Primaries and Secondaries with my mind. And my body becomes very difficult to kill. By animals I mean species that can't see beyond the simple existence of consumption and reproduction."

But a Stitcher without a proper mind will do the same as the host desires, and spread their offspring without care for who wants to form a relationship with a Stitcher and who doesn't."

We wouldn't be able to live with other intelligent lifeforms very well if we didn't respect their wishes."
