Adding this here too, so I can put up some work.
Comments/advice appreciated if anyone is ever inclined.
I guess I should start off with a bit of background as to my stuff. I'm not really sure when I started drawing, since i've always done doodles and scribbles and minor stuff, but I didn't start doing more...actual art-like stuff until grade 9 I suppose. And even then I wasn't as serious about it because I was still "starting out". But I started to get really into it when I got my first tablet, and since around the middle of high school I started actively drawing!
I started off with creatures and fantasy sort of stuff, and then I started moving into backgrounds, and very recently i've been focusing on humans/human-oids to bring those up to par.
Here, have a before and after, hehe.
I really try to push myself in terms of improvement, so I aim to see visible results every few months.
Hopefully that's a good thing?
2010 (not the first tablet piece, but one of the first):
2014:
Phew.
I draw like mad whenever I can and have time, though school cuts into that a lot.
But back to where I was going with this.
When it comes to animals, I guess i'm alright at it? Even though I started drawing them first, I know I have lots of room for improvement left, especially when it comes to focusing on anatomy and all that good stuff.
In regards to background, I think i'm getting better at colour choices and shading, though I really need to practice more background painting. I want to be able to do that.
And finally people. Oh man, mixed feelings. It's always been really tough for me to draw people. I didn't have much motivation at first so I would barely draw them (in some cases just once a year) but recently i've found my motivation in the form of OCs! Artemis in specifically, he's helped a lot.
During summer 2014 I joined an art rp board, and getting to hang around there and participate in that has REALLY helped in actually pushing me to draw him and people in general more.
Sort of to give an example of what I started as going into that board.
2014:
And more recent stuff, just a few months apart, 2015:
( I haven't been drawing just him though, so don't worry about that! Though I will admit, i've drawn hundreds upon hundreds of pictures of him in these few months alone. >-> )
I'm trying to focus on posing, expression, face diversity and all that so I can feel more comfortable about drawing people and the direction i'm headed in them.
The thing is though, I haven't been really able to do proper life drawing! There's some real-life circumstances preventing that at the current moment, but this is something that I want to do so that I can get better, when I get the opportunity.
I'm worried that this set back (of having started drawing people late + low life drawing experience) will really negatively impact my career. I'm going into pre-production art, ideally in the games or animation industry. I'm planning on doing another year or two specifically in games/animation after I graduate, since i'm currently studying global business and digital art (more on the graphic/UX/web design side).
My true passion is still with art and stories though!
So for all you other art people out there, any advice for a "recently-started-drawing-people-seriously" sort of person? Has life drawing helped you? What's worked?
I'll post some more art stuff on here, but i'm always open for chatting/questions/whatever.
Comments/advice appreciated if anyone is ever inclined.
