If they actually get rid of her position. That is yet to be decided. That would certainly be horrible if she loses her job when she needs to support a kid. I don't know how to say this without sounding off-putting...but I hope and pray that other family members, whether it be the kid's dad or relatives can provide some stability in case the worst does happen.

I think there is still money to be made out of Neopets and JumpStart isn't going to give up on that without a serious fight (after purchasing it for however much money). Given that the site hasn't really been functional since the transition, it seems more likely to me that they're wiping the slate clean and doing some overhauls.
The End of Neopets is certainly a possibility, but I'm not going to start mourning just yet!

I don't think JumpStart would let it end either. Even if the site doesn't work out, they would still have the Neopets assets and IP. Obviously that's not going to be the same thing. Update: www.jumpstart.com/aboutus/careers I see positions listed at Torrance, CA. Could it be for Neopets? Also it seems that JumpStart HQ (Torrance) is only 49 mins away from Neopets HQ (Glendale, CA). Obviously traffic there is horrible so 49 mins could be 90 mins xD

The only known Neo-specific job listing was about nine months ago on LinkedIn for an artist.

If they were laid off, then I guess that means someone is supposed to be there to fill those positions. Someone from within the organization. You don't lay off workers in order to hire new people right away.
I just hope JumpStart is forthcoming about all this, even though they have no obligation to tell us what is going on.

I want to stay positive, but my first instinct is not good. If Neopets did end, I'd be heart broken... And I haven't been with the site as long as most of you. I loved being creative with the lore and my lovely pets.... Someday I knew I would leave, but I hope it's not soon. Here's to hoping this change will have some good come out of it.

If they overhaul the entire site to conform to what they want it to be, that's going to alienate the aforementioned playerbase and lead to a mass retirement of old players like we saw when the original site overhaul happened when viacom took over. And it's the old players that will tend to have the money to spend to buy the things that keep Neopets running.

It's a fine line. Do you want to keep your old player base or try and attract a new one? Old players won't necessarily stick around forever either even if they have more money.
If they decide to continue to go toward the mobile route, I don't think they will have as much difficulty attracting new players. It will have to be well executed as with any business idea. I felt that Neopets was really stagnant for half a decade. Don't you wonder if Neopets was making enough money to begin with? Why would Viacom so willingly spin it off if it was profitable? I feel they were losing money for a while and it just didn't become apparent until now.
Still I don't want to see the site go if possible. I think they can maintain both a mobile and web presence. I hope so.

I'd like to take a screenshot of my trophies, but ULs aren't working. If they do sadly decide to close the site I hope they at least get ULs working again so we can screenshot our trophies. Not the newest cache, but here. Thanks Ziporen! Taken a screenshot of my trophies, now going through my trophies to screenshot my achievements and such. Anyway, until I here what TNT/JS has to say I'm going to keep doing what I've always done. It's not like I can do anything to change JS's mind, at least I can't not knowing what they're planning.

Ziporen, do you have one of those for my UL, by chance?

Ziporen, do you have one of those for my UL, by chance? From March 6th, but it's all there. Lucky you. o: You can find them by just Googling your userlookup url, by the way. There's a little green arrow next to the search result. Click on it and then click the "Cached" link.

I suppose it depends. If it's replacing TNT with Jumpstart staff, it'll be rocky at first, but might get better. But, if it's downsizing, none of those positions will get filled again. They'll be eliminated entirely and nothing will replace it.

I hope so. I think one possible direction would be to redesign the site so that it runs on mobile phone browsers as well as on computer browsers. Personally though I still tend to use the computer more often than my phone, and I think this is true for many others as well. There are times when mobility just can't compete with the comfort of a big screen, especially given how text-based much of the site is. I do hope they keep the web component. Neopets would be pretty much unrecognizable if it became completely mobile. :c

It's a fine line. Do you want to keep your old player base or try and attract a new one? Though I think this has been mentioned before, didn't formerly known as TNT say one of the reasons JS was interested in Neopets because of it's pre-existing fanbase? (And the fact it had a lot of older players but that's not relevant here per se.) Unless of course they've decided less than a year into official transition this initial belief is no longer viable. None of this seems to add up, really. And though I'm reiterating others' points... Still. If they wanted to maintain that fanbase, why did they cut practically every person responsible for its development and continued existence? One could easily answer, "Because they're shutting down" but that seemingly contradicts the nature of the app they just released and the features set up to tie it to the site. Really all that's left to do is wait and hope that Neo becomes the "best case scenario" of running off backlogged content whilst features are cut and the site is ultimately downsized, but not out completely. Let the programming/servers really get settled before new content teams are brought in and what not. ...Honestly with all the conspiracy theories about this one could claim it's just as likely this fiasco is one beautifully orchestrated April Fool's joke and everything will return to normal in a month. And about the NT...
There have been many eateries in my part of the city that go on "We will be back after a month long period of renovations" etc.
None of them reopened.
I seriously hope the NT isn't like that and all the best to Droplet (and the rest of the former staff) but its future looks bleak IMO.

Awww man...I haven't actively played Neo in a while, but I have so many good memories of that site!
I'm hoping that the More Positiver thinkers like Joker are correct, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see. In the meantime, maybe I should think about screenshotting my trophies and stuff as well, just in case. (I mean I don't have many, but the N.T was a huge part of the reason I even kept using "thorndove". So having a screenshot of my trophies and maybe even the results when you search my username would be nice for posterity, if worse comes to worst).
I'm also concerned about Droplet. If they are keeping the site around though, surely she'll be fine! She is/was the N.T editor and stuff.
