Then of course at the Battledome I was hoping for more plushies but ended up with a load of codestones. Quite the opposite from the other times I battle - then I'm hoping for codestones and end up with plushies. XD Same! xD; I wonder if they've cut the plushie rate, I got like nine codestones and a dubloon today.

The more I look at the mechanics of the event, the less I like it. So only rich people and hoarders get to have a nice Christmas event? Of course, maybe I can use my inability to sleep of late to my advantage and check the day's items right at midnight before they can inflate...

Only if you want to donate r90+ items and get the chance to get r90+ items back. Anything below that is pretty cheap. I used this thing to dump all of my toy duplicates (the bulk of them range around 60 in rarity and are going for 20-50 NP on the shopwiz) and won't even bother with the high-level donations (unless the prices go down again after a brief peak, in which case I might give it a shot). Basically I'm treating it like a holiday vending machine of sorts: you put in various crap - either from the SDB or buy five Pirate Usuki Play Sets for 25 NP each, your call - and see what you get back. It's the surprise aspect that I like here.

Of course, maybe I can use my inability to sleep of late to my advantage and check the day's items right at midnight before they can inflate... This complaint was brought up during Aboard the Coincidence too, and I'm going to go ahead and repeat the counterpoint that was made then- different events favor different users. Honestly that's one of the things I love about neopets, it appeals to lots of different playstyles. War plots appeal to battledomers, Altador Cup and Daily Dare sort of things appeal to flash gamers, and puzzle plevents and plots appeal to critical thinkers and problem solvers. This particular event appeals to collectors and hoarders. And everyone gets a nice Christmas event every year- the Advent Calendar, which can and often does give away very nice prizes and has a lot of cute, creative animations. Sure it's zero effort, but the Charity Corner is zero effort for hoarders 'cuz all they really need to do is fight the lag to get stuff out of their SDB to dump. I got seventeen dumps in out of spare bits and bobs I had lying around my SDB and while that's nowhere near leaderboard material, I'm content with it. It's a cute idea, and while it doesn't appeal to everybody no event ever will. Be patient and something that does match up with your personal play style will come along. Just my two cents.

So I figured the Coincidence was a one-off thing. But with the second item-based event in a year, this site is going to make me a hoarder. Completed the first two wishlist things, then went and bought a bunch of cheap r80 toys and turned them in. This is gonna do some really funky things to the Neopian economy; I'll be interested to see what happens.

It's the surprise aspect that I like here. I was referring more to the Adopt a Neopian part. And it's extra annoying since we only had like 6 hours to do the first step since TNT didn't give us a full day to do it like they normally do. I'm a pretty good restocker so I could care less about paying loads of money to get r~90s with the toy sink.

I'm bummed that the Adopt a Neopian items are insanely expensive by the time I can get online to participate. :C No way I'm spending 99k for the toffees. XD;

Wow, the toffees were 99k? o__o I'm glad I had exactly one in my SDB, then. The only thing I didn't have was the lip balm, and that was only 300 np.
I guess it'd pay to try and do each Adopt a Neopian thing as close to midnight as possible.

It's a cute idea, and while it doesn't appeal to everybody no event ever will. Be patient and something that does match up with your personal play style will come along. Just my two cents. I'm not saying you're wrong because it is a valid counterpoint, but I guess my big issue with events like this and the Coincidence is that there really isn't anything you can do to help your own case during the events. In puzzle events, people post guides and offer help; in BD events, people loan weapons and pets; in the AC there is SoSd to grind for prize points and the DD has lower-score Abigail challenges. Adopt a Neopian and the Coincidence are nice for hoarders, but people who don't have 100k+ to spend on the daily "big" item (the toffees today I believe) and can't be online at midnight are SOL. The FAQ is pretty clear that you need to participate in the Adopt a Neopian 15 times to qualify for a bonus reward at the end which implies that the toy donations don't really count toward it. I guess events where you have to rely on yourself aren't necessarily a bad thing because I loved the old plots that I would have to solve on my own. But when literally every other event these days is linear (with abundant guides) it makes events like this one jarring. (Plus, I have to admit I'm a bit of a softy and I really feel bad for all the people who chose to sell items from dailies or use them for the Rubbish avatar since I did the same thing prior to the Coincidence event and my bank balance suffered for it)

By "participating 15 times", does that mean if you donate or adopt 15 times, you have participated? Sorry if that sounds dumb, I just want to be sure…

The bonus prize for donating toys requires you to be on the leaderboard.

And while I'm sure everyone probably saw this already, the possible additional prize for doing 15 of the "Adopt a Neopian" is possibly a: Avatar: And now the price for the items needed to complete the "Adopt A Neopian" has gone through the roof... or at least they will once we know what they are and resellers start buying them all up. It would be nice if TNT made it so that request has MULTIPLE items you can pick instead of one specific one...
