I'm not strictly speaking a hoarder, I just sell much less than I get (cos my shop is tiny and I restock a couple items at a time, but do my dailies well, daily).
Which means that suddenly I have this pile of r90+ plushies that're going for all the money on the market.
yeeeess, precious shiniesss, come to mama.
I find this a nifty idea :3 Not because of economic ramifications or whatnot, but because it's a new and interesting thing to do on the site, which is good enough for me. Neopets has been pretty varied with their events recently.

I've seen NP sink events before, but never an item sink. One of the coolest ideas I read about was a NT article suggesting a recycling program for the fishing junk. It was a really neat idea and made IC sense.

I can see it bothering the people who hoarded up rare items in the hopes their value would go up. But I think overall, it seems a good event for the economy. You're inflating some of those 1 np items up, and deflating some r99 items, but not by a huge amount, since it seems to be pulling the prizes from EVERY possible rarity. (Versus just from a pool that deflates only those specific items)
It's also getting me to do the Battledome every day in the hopes of racking up some of those Tyrannian plushies. X3 Because now all the super-cheap rare toys have shot up in price quite a bit.
But I -have- donated about 40 times, so there's that. :B

With all of the plushies I had from the Koi Warrior alone I was able to donate 139 times, and I still have at least ~100 more toys from other dailies left. |D

At the moment I'm more worried about the "Help A Neopian" Tags. They're asking for specific items which of course means that those items have skyrocketed to almost unbuyable prices (well, at least the ones for that day). While I suppose that would mean the prizes would be expensive, it's still kind of annoying, especially to those who can't really stay up till the site enters the next day.

I am trying to so hard to participate in this event so it doesn't become another one of those avatars/trophies/etc. that I missed...BUT I CANNOT HANDLE THIS SITE LAG!! Is it just me?! And is it related to the transition because honestly, it's been a while and it really shouldn't take 5 full minutes to load someone's shop anymore...

It's both (1.) the site not having fully recovered from the transition and (2.) everyone trying to use the same part of the site all at the same time. Well shucks, I guess it pays to be a hoarder now. xD; I hate having a bunch of junk on my account, so I wasn't prepared for either this or the Coincidence. I guess I'm still stuck in the days where 1 np items stayed that way.
I donated 19 times out of what I had and got a Lord Kass Card (!) so I can't complain, but darn it I need to stop throwing items out! ;~; Mara shieldmaiden plushies are like 13k last I checked, that's insaaaaane.

Surprisingly enough I had enough items to donate 6 times. I wasn't expecting this. Then of course at the Battledome I was hoping for more plushies but ended up with a load of codestones. Quite the opposite from the other times I battle - then I'm hoping for codestones and end up with plushies. XD

I've only donated once (yes, shame on me), but that's because I had enough toys from my shop (from various sources) for one. With the Christmas rush going on IRL, it's relatively busy at my workplace, so I currently don't have the time to buy stuff on Neo.
