The Priest Presumably hears the confessions of all town inhabitants every day... among which are the confessions of the Mafia members and then tries to convince them not to kill others. Problem is: he only heard the confession, he did not see the culprit. So every day after a mafia murder of innocent towns people has taken place, the Priest sends in a guess with 3 names whom he thinks are mafia (or less if the number of Mafia has come down to 2 or 1 respectively and the priest is still alive). If he picked one name right, the mafia will sit out one round while the towns people still get their revenge lynching round, though the priest will not be told how many names he got right and which name it is he got right. Of course with some deduction, he will be able to narrow down eventually the names (if he lives long enough). But as Priest he is bound to the confessional secret, so he can't tell anyone. So no telling the detective, no influencing the rioting mob, and he has to abstain from making a normal towns people vote. He is after all a man of God, and will not kill.

Ah, that sounds like a super interesting role, Chao! I just fear it could verge into the 'overpowered' category-- if you get a lucky and/or smart Priest, he can seriously whack up the game and make it stretch for ages. >__>; Imagine if he got a right name every round and the mafia could never kill? I suppose a version wherein he only gets a limited number of confessions per game could be more tenable-- though I'd have to think it through carefully. Thank you for the suggestion! =D
So far others ones people have suggested (via Skype) or that I've come up with (the latter would probably make it into the game with a revised name, though):
1. Martyr. If the martyr is lynched, no deaths can occur the following night.
2. Insane cop. Like the normal detective/cop. But all the reports he's given are false. (Obviously the insane cop is told at the start of the game that is just a regular cop... and so is the regular cop. So they know that ONE of them is insane... but not which.) So if someone is actually innocent, they appear guilty to him, and vice versa. Upon the insane cop's death, he appears as a regular cop. Meaning, it's through careful observation that both cops have to figure out whether or not they're sane/insane.

Oh boy, after seeing Carrie's posts, I'm getting impatient too!
Say, will a summary of the rules be posted before the game begins?

Oh boy, after seeing Carrie's posts, I'm getting impatient too! Say, will a summary of the rules be posted before the game begins? Yeah, when I post the sign-ups thread, I'll also put up some general game rules/guidelines. Then there will be a more in-depth rules/decorum post after sign-ups happen. Generally for Mafia I make a little sub-board for all the game threads, and sticky in it a rules thread. :3 I am quite impatient, hah! 8D; It's hard resisting starting it because a decent chunk of people seem to want to. But then there are the people who don't want to. Everyone, quickly rescind your opinions and tell me to start now!

I won't mind if you have it soon or later; I just want to participate in this one.

So far it seems to be a runaway-- but then again it also seemed to be a runaway last night, and when I woke up this morning Aifam and Frosthaven were almost tied before Aifam took off again. XD So, I suppose it's still not over! But since I imagine most people have already voted, I'm going to give this poll until tomorrow (Sunday) night. Afterward, I'm going to delete the poll and put a new one, where you guys will vote for the final role. (I've already a couple others solidly determined.) This poll will also last for a few days. At this point, a great deal of people seem to want to start ASAP. While I'm not going to start things right now, since I also don't want to wait so long that everyone's excitement completely dies before we even begin-- I'm thinking of doing sign-ups on the sooner rather than later side. Possibly next weekend, with the game then starting sometime between the 18th and 21st. Once I have a solid decision, I'll post it here, but that probably won't be until after we vote on the last role. And recall, I'll give a 24 hour advance notice before sign-ups go up.

As during this round there is no mafia murder, the priest does not guess again. So he only stalls it for one round. Day 1 - Mrs. Smith, innocent town's person is murdered by the Mafia Day 1 - Priest sends in guesses of Mrs. Arlington, Mr. Bennet and Mr. Carlisle Day 1 - The mafia is informed by the director of the game that the Priest made a correct guess. Neither the Mafia nor the priest are informed, which names were guessed correctly. Day 1 - The mob lynches Mrs. Long (innocent town's person) Day 2 - no mafia murder Day 2 - the priest thinks he has convinced the mafia for good to stop killing Day 2 - the anxious mob still lynches someone Day 3 - Mr. Malrony is murdered by the mafia Day 3 - only now the priest gets to guess again.

Ooh, okay, yeah that definitely makes it less overpowered-- though I still do have fears of having any role that can stop kills more than once. I just have images of an already-long game stretching longer. 8D; Maybe if it was tweaked a bit more where the priest only gets to hear confessions in certain rounds beyond just mafia kills... hm... I shall have to think this through! Reminder: poll will close tonight. So get your votes in! I'll then put up a new poll with the three proposed roles that stood out most to me, or seem like they'd be most interesting without being overpowered (or useless). :3 So, stay tuned! 8D

Role poll is up for your voting pleasure. 8D Thanks SO much for all the suggestions! I had a tough time narrowing them down but went with the three I thought seemed interesting without possibly being overpowered/game-breaking.

Wow, a tied poll after most people whom I think will vote have voted. =o This is very interesting. ... some more people should vote so we don't end up with a tie. 8D;

Anyone who volunteers for map drawing will be given a kitten. @__@ A FAKE KITTEN. Come on guys, don't you want a fake kitten!?
Poll will remain open until tomorrow evening. Dang, it's close and my favorite isn't winning *whine*
At this point I can't decide between Wednesday or Thursday for sign-ups. I suppose I shall figure that out by the time I close the poll tomorrow, and post it here. 8D;
ALSO! Are you planning on having your character be a business owner? =o IF SO, please PM me with the name of their business because I would like to some legit names to put into the opening post for the RP. 8D ... they don't even have to be a business owner, really. But like, if they work someplace or. You know. >__>

Because I figure doing sign-ups Wednesday makes the best chance of having the game start on a weekend (preferable) as opposed to a weekday, I think sign-ups shall be tomorrow afternoon. So be on the lookout. =D And remember to vote before this poll closes tonight!

Alright, after much back and forth, it seems the Mad Constable made a last minute surge, and came out ahead. =D This shall thus be the last role! Again, the sign ups thread will be open tomorrow afternoon, in Forum Events. Thanks for all your votes, and I'm looking so forward to getting this show on the road!
