I would prefer summer because I have holidays the last week of March and the last week of April/first ten days of May and I will be travelling during them. Furthermore, I've got a project due on the 25th of April that is worth all of my grade for the year that I'll be working on.
The contrary decision may affect my ability to participate. As much as I would love to take part, I cannot do it if I am not guaranteed internet in my travels, which is possible. And it would be a shame because I adore Mafia. ;_; I'll do my best but if circumstances are beyond my control then, well...it isn't happening.
Aifam Cove sounds nice to me if it was a location, not a town name. It could be a cove near the town where the Mafia meet though. As for town names...Fawlton is nice, I like that. And this is a real town name but...I always liked the name Stonehaven.

Alright, so far the consensus seems to be March/spring-- gah, I wish I could pick a perfect time that worked for everyone, but I don't think that'll ever happen. ;_; Assuming that the opinion doesn't change wildly with people who haven't yet responded but will do so, I'm thinking of trying for as decent a middle ground as possible... with perhaps doing sign-ups towards the middle-end part of March. The first bit of gameplay would then take place in March, and the bulk in April, with I guess the last scraps possibly (but not necessarily) stretching into May depending on how fast the mafia does or doesn't fall. I know this won't work for everyone but I think it seems to be a decent medium, based on the responses so far. Also do remember that you don't need to be able to post like, every single day, in order to be a good participant. So long as you generally can post once or twice per round (with rounds lasting 5-6 days), you're fine; and if you're out of town for a round, it's not the end of the world. :3 Obviously don't sign up if you're going to be absent for the majority of the game, but if the game lasts six weeks and you're gone for just one of those-- I don't see that as a crushing issue, because... life happens. *nods* Going to leave this thread open for more responses. ^__^ Once I feel like everyone's had a chance to have their say, I'll put a poll up with the town names that struck me most so we can have a nice vote on them and settle on something before sign-ups.

*pops in* Hello! Also do remember that you don't need to be able to post like, every single day, in order to be a good participant. So long as you generally can post once or twice per round (with rounds lasting 5-6 days), you're fine; and if you're out of town for a round, it's not the end of the world. :3 Oh, I was going to ask you about that, I was glad to see your post! I would love to participate in this game, (if I understand how it works and if I can be of any help ^^; ), but as my time zone doesn't really match the forum's bursts of activity, I was afraid I wouldn't be able to keep up with the game if I couldn't post replies fast enough. 1) Spring sounds better to me, as summer is BEACH TIME! 2) Both March and April sound fine. 3) I would still make it if it happened during the summer. :3 4) Uummm... Butterdale, Roseglen, Ivycombe, Maplecrest, Cheddarknoll, Foxgreave. (I have plenty more where those came from.)

Butterdale, Roseglen, Ivycombe, Maplecrest, Cheddarknoll, Foxgreave. (I have plenty more where those came from.) Ah no, and I guess I should explain for anyone else who's new: Mafia doesn't work at an "instant messaging" sort of pace, but rounds span nearly a week, and the game generally over a month. It doesn't matter what time zone you're in-- you post when you're on and when you can. ^^ At first I will admit that the pace can be a bit fast because people get super excited, but it generally levels off after a week or so into a pace that's fairly manageable and keep up-able no matter your time zone. Of course people are welcome (and encouraged) to post more than that 1-2 times per round-- the more posts, the more interesting the story, and the more fun it is for everyone!-- but I guess I suggest that just as a base minimum. ^__^ I'm glad to have you on board! It's super fun and I'm sure you'll enjoy it. =D And any other new people-- don't be shy! We want everyone. ^__^ If all goes on as it has with spring being the preference, I'll put up the town names post within the next week or so. So keep those suggestions flowing! =o EDIT - Oh, I'd also like to mention for anyone who's played previously but was kind of put off by having little to do after death (how sad) and thus are reluctant to sign up again: based on an idea suggested to me by the lovely Chao last year, the ghosts this year will have a special group role together to hopefully maintain further player interest. ^__^ It'll be a nice way, I hope, to keep the game engaging even if you wind up dead in round two. XD;

Tempting... very tempting...
1) Summer is much preferred. Especially the version starting in May. April has CampNaNo and by the time second camp comes around in July my character in all likelihood would be either dead or the game over anyway.
3) If it's spring, most likely I won't be able to participate, no matter how much fun it is. Even if limiting my own postings to once or twice per round, there's still the matter of reading or at least skimming most of the posts in order to keep up with events in the story, which takes up a lot of time. Last time it was anything between 10 and 30 sometimes lengthy posts popping up over night as result of the fun that is different time zones... And camp works within my own time zone without a problem, so camp comes first for me. If of course everyone posted a one-line summary of their post at the end of the post... XD

XD It would be interesting to have some summarizing requirement. XD Not sure how practical, but everyone knows how I've tried to find some way to find some summarizing tactic that works. Though, in the interest of not scaring away new people-- I've already admitted that yeah, at the start there can be a lot to keep up with. However, I don't think it's a constant 10-30 new posts per day throughout the entire thing. The game took place last time over approximately seven weeks, with a grand total of 473 posts. That averages out to about 8 new posts per 24 hour period-- and I'd be willing to bet that at the start, it might have been quite a bit more than that (but still not 30 posts per day, I think XD). However, as things settle in, I'm also willing to bet that it probably slanted less than the average. Not denying it's a bit to catch up on each day, but it's far from 30 posts, or even 10-- except again, during the first initial burst of excitement, which it isn't particularly long lived. XD; EDIT - Oh yeah, and just a reminder-- for anyone whose time preference doesn't get picked and feels reluctant committing as a full-on player: we'll still want NPCs this year. =D And this will give you a lot more leeway. For those who don't know, an NPC is basically someone who makes a character and participates in the RolePlay... but isn't an official resident of the town. This means they can't vote or be killed, so things are less time sensitive. But an NPC still gets to do the fun RP stuff... but also doesn't have to feel as pressured with keeping up with things. We've had some awesome NPCs in the past, and it's a still lot of fun even if you feel you don't want to make the time commitment as a full-on player.

Depending on how tempted I am by the time all the fun stuff is revealed (aka all the rules and roles and stuff), I might play with a really low-key character in terms of writing... because, well, I had too much boring stuff at work, so my mind wandered and I now have a name and a low-key character and... as I love voting, I'd have to be a full player. XD
Even if not 30 posts per night, in length they easily came up to 30 pages in Word... when I copied it on my data stick to try and read it secretly at work.

XD Yeah, some people got very lengthy this past game, hah. I plead the "I'm too lazy to write long posts, so I didn't" defense. 8D Well, if you do decide to play, we'd love to have you. I'm still mulling over when, precisely, to get things going-- I keep flip-flopping between end of March and more towards the middle. It's very difficult to decide since every person who's responded so far has had a slightly different 'ideal' time. Why can't you all just hive mind omg

*double posts* 8D
As a heads up, I'm going to leave this thread open for opinions until Friday night (e.g., two days from now). After that I'm going to start narrowing down town names and better figuring out the start date. So if you want your opinion heard-- including town name suggestions!-- speak up soon. ^__^

I wasn't expecting to participate in this, but then a character idea invaded my subconscious and refused to leave, and now I really want to write him so here I am. :'D
Just to add my useless opinion to the pile, I'm fine with whenever though the hyped part of my brain says "sooner rather than later" >_>, and I also have a strange fondness for Aifam Cove.

Oh-- also. I am trying to figure out some new, interesting roles, but am having a fairly hard time with it. A lot of roles that sound neat are either overpowered or wouldn't really fit in with the RP format. So if any of you have role ideas... suggest them here! Please.
