Comic'ing didn't turn out too well this week, and I'm not quite sure when the next proper update will come. In the meantime, though, I sketched out an idea that's bouncing a round in my head: Jonathon is the type that will try just about anything at least once. If it's advertised as food or drink, he's intrigued. This can be to the mild horror of those around him at times, but he's not gonna miss out on a potential new favorite food! As such, he's also the person you can give your plate to if you're unable to finish a meal. It's impressive the amount he can eat in one sitting.

Closing out the year, I continue my tradition of the year's summary of art template! I don't feel like this was a very consistent year for me in terms of productivity, and most of my time I feel was spent on comics rather than individual pieces. As such, many of the months are filled with comic panels, while other months I struggled to find something complete enough to use for them xD I still managed to put in something for each month, though, which is good! February I was struggling to find anything on my laptop, until I remembered that I was out of country that whole month so of course I wasn't on my computer xD So instead, I put in a sketch I made while chilling at a little lodge in the Dominican Republic of the nature around.

The past few days, I've been in the mood for doing studies, and so far I've got two to share: A sketch of actress Anya Taylor-Joy after seeing some beautiful pics of her on twitter: And a mountain and tundra landscape, since it's the kind of environment I need to draw a lot for comic stuff: I also have some miscellaneous arts that'd be fun to share! This first one is based on the last April Fool's issue of the NT. For it, I made a comic where, after Fyora abdicates, Jonathon receives a letter with mysterious news. Some people took this to mean that he'd be taking up Fyora's position, and while that wasn't my original intent, I loved the mental image. This then led to the mental image of Jonathon in a gorgeous Faerie outfit for his coronation, which would look something like this: Back in December, I took part in a Secret Santa art exchange on the neoboards, so here's the piece I made for my assigned person:

In the spirit of today, I made this sketch that I'd love to finish but I doubt I will by the end of the day: She's giving him a flower <3 In less pink news, I've been making some vent sketches recently that are all kinda connected in what I'm considering a series now. The series is called "I Am a Ghost," and I'm just making the pieces as they come to me. This one I consider finished: This one is more of a concept sketch, as I'm not too happy with how it looks, but I do like the idea: And I have a third one in the works that is the most complex, but I'd rather not show it until it's finished.

I'm not sure I've drawn something that's done that before, not sure how to feel about that xD Sorry about the nightmare at least, I hope it wasn't too bad for you!

I made a couple more of those line work sketches as warm ups, both of them experimenting with different elements. This first one I played around with fine detail a lot more: And this one I started working with other brushes (although this one I still consider unfinished):

I am loving that style, it is reminding me both of the aesthetic you used for Liz and Mary and of some flowing comic panels in Blossoms that I liked a lot, and I'm really looking forward to seeing what you do with these brushes next~

Thanks! I'm glad you've been enjoying them :3 They're basically what my stream of consciousness look like. They're the shapes and lines my hand naturally wants to draw when I'm not thinking, hence my jumping on the opportunity to use them in things like my comics.
I'm curious to see what comes of them as well! I never know what to expect until I'm partway through making one.

Was going through my files, and I found this sketch I'd forgotten about for so long. The concept behind it is I wanted to recreate the the habit of looking all around the room while talking except towards the person you're talking to. It's a habit of mine born out of anxiety, and every now and then I want to try and convey mental health things through my art. I always find it really difficult to do, though, especially through more abstract means (although those black line sketches are oftentimes rant pieces), so this sketch I just tried to be literal with it. And I used Twillie and Jonathon for it because I felt it fitting for their characters, and so I didn't have to create new designs \o/ Maybe I'll finish it one day, maybe not, but for what it is I was actually surprised how well it turned out. I think I went a bit extra on this because I wanted it to look nice for sharing.

I know that sketch, I think you've shared it before, maybe on Discord? Anyway, it's a near concept.
I remember I struggled with eye contact growing up. It's not necessarily something you're born knowing how to do. For me, it wasn't so much about anxiety and more about... I guess my learning disabilities? Social awkwardness? Probably some combination of the two. But yeah, it took years of practice for me in childhood before it became natural to look at people when I talk to them.

Yeah, I believe I've shared it on Discord way back when. Didn't make anymore progress on it since then, haha.
I say anxiety, but really for me it's probably a combo of things as well. It's difficult indeed, though, and for me I still have the habit of looking around everywhere lol. Part of it is also that I struggle to think of words on the spot sometimes, so I'll just be looking around every which way as though something will remind me of what I was trying to say.

Blossoms Heart to Heart stuff, mainly later parts: Loving how we're seeing magic-vision and the magic-avatars interact with the world around them and the magic plane. I like the difference in the two magic users' movements in there, how dynamic and confident Zathandria is. In Part 6, her shift from material plane to magic avatar happens in 3 quick beats in the same panel, while Jonathon's shift at the beginning of part 7 takes 3 separate panels with a lot more space. That really made a difference to me. Not sure if the aura around Zathandria's dress is anything more than a pretty visual effect, but I find it interesting that she has extra glow. Jonathon getting distracted and taking time to settle in meditation is very much a thing that can happen, it's so nice to see it in comic form. I appreciate how his magic avatar is wearing the sort of accessories that I've mainly seen associated with a flamboyant queer style, the heels, shoulder-baring top and fingerless gloves, except Jonathon's outfit is much gentler and more muted and he is walking so naturally in those heels. Oooh what nice little orange eyed friends climbing icicles, surely they are just little Snowickle friends like the one we saw in the background in part 6, and nothing to worry about. Zathandria seems to be tapping into red magic? Like she got in touch with the Heart without trying? Typical. In earlier parts, Zathandria sounded totes super okay with the prospect of that Fyora job that sounded so intimidating when Jonathon was talking about it? I crave information on Zathandria's motivations, the slip of her tongue when she nearly got caught by Twillie was nice and intriguing. Casually noting that the Icy Voice Friend manifested right after Jonathon aired self-doubt and -criticism out into the magic plane.

Liou Thank you for the commentary, it's always appreciated! =D I can comment on a couple things of my own: The aura around Zathandria is indeed mainly for pretty effect. Both her and Jonathon have it in The Talk as well, and the only reason I didn't include it with Jonathon in the latest part was fear of making things look cluttered. I may edit it in for consistency's sake, though. Is this a question about Zathandria, or just part of your intrigue about her motivation? I hate to admit how often I forget details in my own story, so there's often opportunity for me to make accidental inconsistencies. Thus, any confusion about the plot or characters I'm always happy to explain! (so long as it doesn't involve revealing spoilers ;3)
