So, stuff will come as I write up all of my NaNo planning. All I have is a half finished synopsis of parts of the whole story, and a few scenes.
Sparrows is a tentative name, I don't know that I'll stick with it.
Vague synopsis time! Wheeeeeeeee! 8D

Despite taking a king's ransom in gold, she does her best to pretend to be an impoverished mother taking her son to live with distant family to avoid notice.
Lord Hiram

Vague synopsis time! Wheeeeeeeee! 8D
Avarest was one of the more remote planets in the Empire, quiet and peaceful in spite of the hostile rule of the Overlord. When a shuttle comes through a portal carrying a newborn infant, no one is sure what to think. The Lord Protector's daughter, Lady Yukari, decides to raise the child as her own until the parents come to claim him. But, it quickly becomes clear that he is no ordinary child.
When Umbra, the Overlord's chief servant, comes to claim the boy as his own, Yuka suspects there is a dark future ahead for the boy. Abandoning her family and life of comfort, she flees, beginning a nomadic life to keep him from the agents of the Overlord. Her suspicions are confirmed as she finds herself sought by Imperial soldiers, people she once considered friends and family bent on winning the favor of the Overlord, and even more shadowy groups.

Updating this with some backstory thingamabober. I'm pretty sure this is being told by one of the characters from the story.
History is not taught in the Empire, not legally, because history gives hope. Because history reminds you there is hope. The history of the Empire is already a little murky, but certain things are clear.
There was a beautiful woman named Memora. She discovered the art of the portals. She called it the Astral Bridge. She traveled the planets in the time long gone, teaching the art to the inhabitants of those planets. Wherever she went, prosperity followed.
After long wanderings, spreading her goodness to the furthest reaches of the galaxy, she settled on a mostly deserted planet. She created the city of Empryl and raised it into the skies. She lived alone in the palace of the great city, her only companions were birds of all species.
The galaxy, now aware of each other and banded together, decided they needed a central and impartial leader. Who better than Memora, who had brought them together in the first place?
Memora reluctantly agreed. She was no longer keen on traveling the worlds as she once had, so she took on trusty aides. She called them her Circle. Eventually, they numbered fourteen and became known as the Circle of Fourteen.
Memora made them forever young and strong, so they could help her keep the peace forever. A golden age started when they crowned her Empress.
For many decades, this golden age continued. Then, a dark force and it's army came in force, ready to tear the Empire from it's golden age. It came from a dark planet, one that even Memora had not been able to reach.
Memora initially fought against the dark lord and his army, and things looked to be going in the Empire's favor. Then, she was unexpectedly killed and one of her trusted Circle of Fourteen, Umbra, betrayed them to join the service of the dark lord. The most disputed events surround her death. Some say she simply gave up against the dark lord, tired of her existence. Others say Umbra killed her to gain his place at the dark lord's side.
Regardless of the circumstances, the death of Memora turned the battle in the dark lord's favor. The remaining thirteen and the city of Empryl had to go into hiding. The dark lord took over the Empire, crowning himself the Overlord.
Why the Overlord doesn't want the story told is because there are thirteen heroes out there still. There is still hope out there. With Memora, hoped died once. But, people are resilient. A century and a half later, a new generation is ready to have hope again, and ready to fight fight for it.
