Officially did two days of Nano worth of words today, and on the first day of Camp Nano, two. Probably could've done more if I weren't distracted by the internet, but I think I did well. The story's not fighting me at the beginning the way my last Nano did.

So, once again, I thought I wouldn't have anything ready for dinner tonight.
Apparently, last night I thought ahead for once and thawed some tilapia in the fridge. Yay me.

Woke up at a quarter to seven thanks to a smoke detector (batteries dying, not actually detecting smoke) and realized there was a very pretty sunrise. Got some nice pictures before deciding it was still a little cold out ^^;

We went to the farmers market and I bought a brownie and a fruit pastry and a HUGE piece of bread pudding
I lose my head completely around bakeries (and it tastes so good)

We celebrated my grandfather's 90th birthday today! It was an amazing time filled with family and fun and stories. I played violin and received many compliments. Even through the chaos, it was a most excellent day! (Hope to do it again in another 10 years! )

The weather is lovely, the beaches are still quiet, half of my working hours involve sitting in a room with books and rocking out to good old music with my colleagues (Billie Jean right now, and the other day We Will Rock You started on the radio just when I walked in), the university library is exceptionally recruiting people through a simpler process than the usual national contest, and my colleagues are so eager to keep me next year that they printed all the paperwork for me to make sure I would sign up.

Got a canker sore in my mouth that's been bothering me all week. Just now I remembered that I have some topical dental anesthetic in my medicine cabinet, that I bought when a filling fell out several months ago.
The relief is amazing, I can't even begin to explain.

I have yogurt covered pretzels and it is warm enough to wear a skirt without my legs being cold for the first time in months. I've missed this skirt, it has classic Pooh Bear and Piglet on it, and it just floats when I move. Ah, Spring, I love you.

I just wrote my first 5/4 bar! I wasn't even trying to. It was originally two 4/4 bars, and I saw that three of the beats were superfluous, and actually detrimental since they interrupted the melody. The result? A mostly 4/4 piece with one 5/4 bar in the middle. Whoever ends up playing this is probably going to hate me for it, but I feel so sophisticated having written it! (Also, a 6/4 bar later in the piece, but that was better scripted, and also not quite as evil.)
