Time was of the essence.
"Listen up!" shouted Alexa up ahead. "It seems like you are all with partners already. Split up in those teams of two and fan out. We need to find Stal before he hurts Hanna!"
Exactly. Who knew what Stal might be capable of?
"Follow me." he said to the person nearest before dashing at full sprint towards the conservatory. He'd leave the house to the others, all of whom seemed to be gravitating in that direction.
He thought it unlikely, but if Stal was hiding in or about the conservatory, if everyone were to go piling back into the mansion it would be easy enough for the prince to dispose of his captive and scale the back wall.
He wasn't going to let that happen.

Mori busts out of his fort. He was probably a bit more unstable then he usually is. He was a bit off to begin with, but now he was just nuts. He looks around the basement and looks up. He stares at the ceiling.
"Was that always there?"
Silence.
"That... Wall above us. I don't trust it. What is it hiding?!"
He looks around the basement and finds some kerosene. He splashes the ceiling with it.
"What do you mean this is a bad idea? This is a perfect idea!"
He finds a lighter near where he found the kerosene, lighting a ripped box, he lights the kerosene soaked ceiling.
"Teach you to hide things from me!"

The Prince was trying to tell Hanna that he was some cowboy or something, but Hanna did not believe him. No. This man was no cowboy agent, but evil personified, by which Hanna meant the mansion personified, because the mansion was evil. As he continued darting about his host (the mansion!), Hanna kept flailing, albeit vainly, having somewhat accepted her impending death, but not entirely. She could vaguely hear people chasing, and smell... what was that, smoke?... but was having resounding little success actually breaking free from her captor.
... until she kicked him in just the right place, square in the gut. This did not cause him to drop her, but merely inhale sharply and shift her positive over his shoulder a tad bit; which then gave her limited access to her pockets. And screwdrivers.
Desperately, the yanked one out, and then sank its tip through his posh clothes and into the flesh of his upper arm.
"DIE, MANSION MAN!" she screamed. "DIE, DIE, DIE!"

Erika had gotten completely lost, with no idea where she was.
Suddenly, she heard someone say "Follow me."
It was the doctor from the beginning of the party!
"What is it?" Erika asked. "What's happened?" She started to follow him to the conservatory.

"What is it?" Erika asked. "What's happened?"
"We need to find Prince Stal," Marvin explained. "Before he hurts Hanna. He could well be hiding in the conservatory, waiting for us all to go running into the mansion so he can escape unnoticed."
He hadn't run this much in one night since before he hit his forties. However, his determination to find that good for nothing Prince Stal, and to prevent any harm from coming to the girl, drove him on. As he reached the door to the conservatory, he paused to catch his breath and allow Miss Kendall to catch up.

"Stal's kidnapped someone?!" Erika gasped. She'd thought he was conceited but mostly harmless. Now he'd captured someone!
Had he killed Mr. Woo?
She ran after the doctor.
"Don't worry Hanna, we're coming," she panted.

Having let Erika catch up, Marvin stepped into the darkened conservatory. Under normal circumstances he would have allowed the lady to enter first, but these were not normal circumstances.
"Stal!" he shouted into the gloom. "We know you're in here, the game is up!"
He was bluffing, of course, but at least there would be only one witness if Stal wasn't here to hear it.
There was no reply.
"Set the girl free, so we can talk about this like adults!"
Still no answer.
"Sounds like the place is empty," he whispered to Erika. "But see if you can find a light switch. He could be hiding somewhere."

"Stal!" the man shouted. "We know you're in here, the game is up!"
No answer.
"Set the girl free, so we can talk about this like adults!"
Nothing. Erika was getting worried. If Stal jumped out and went for one of them next...she didn't even have her lute with her. She had absolutely nothing with which she could protect anyone.
She took off her cat pendant in hopes that there was the slightest chance it would be useful if Stal surprise attacked them.
"Sounds like the place is empty," Dr. Medlis whispered. But see if you can find a light switch. He could be hiding somewhere."
Now that was a good idea.
She ran her free hand along the dark wall, hoping to find something.
Her hand hit a hanging plant. She gasped. It was now undoubtedly swinging around. Oh well, Stal had already heard Dr. Medlis's yells, so he knew she was there.
While still searching the wall, she called out, "Hanna! Are you in here? We came to rescue you!"

"DIE, MANSION MAN!" she screamed. "DIE, DIE, DIE!"
Prince Stal tossed Hanna down on the bed and screamed a profane word that would've resulted in a swordfish smack from his father. "You crazy girl, I'm not going to hurt you! I need your help to defeat the actual murderer! To defeat the mansion! It's not me! I had to save you!" Prince Stal hoped the obviously crazy mansion would believe him. He knew the truth was he didn't have much time. He had run to the bedroom, he knew someone would be right on his trail before long.
"Please, arm yourself. You're going to need it. We all may." Prince Stal started looking around for a weapon to arm himself with, even while he cradled the area the crazy girl had attempted to stab him in. He was way to bruised already. This hero business took more effort than he thought.
((Sorry for the delay people. Work stuff. ))

Alexa reached the bedroom door, not even bothering to see if Geoffrey was following. She heard a screamed profanity from inside. She threw the door open, finding Stal standing over Hanna, who was laying on the bed, screwdriver in hand.
"Let her go, you cur!" Alexa shouted. "Hanna, get out of here! Go with your brother."
She seized a lead pipe that was lying on the table near the door. "Stal, let's not make this violent."

"Hanna. Don't trust anyone but me. She's an agent of the mansion." Prince Stal turned to Alexa. "Isn't it a little late for that? Woo was murdered. Hanna stabbed me... Barry may even eat your face." Barry grumped from where he stood, near the doorway, being the laziest guard err bear that Prince Stal had even known.

"Oh? Poor little prince," Alexa scoffed. "Hanna knows you're a mad man. You probably killed Woo and were going to kill her too! We're not about to let that happen, are we, Geoffrey?" Alexa said his name much louder, so he'd finally do something like get his sister to safety.

"I killed Woo? Surely you know by now it couldn't have been me. My whole escape was to give people time to escape, to give people like you time to think about who did it. To let them prepare themselves for the fight to come. Let us not mince words. We know I'm not the murderer." Prince Stal glanced at Hanna. "The mansion was clearly the culprit. Geoffrey, would you like to come in here and join your sister? She has plenty of screwdrivers to go around. Barry won't mind you coming in, would you Barry?" (Barry grunted in a way that didn't seem all that reassuring, but Prince Stal seemed to accept as "we cool, bro, we cool.")
