So there's this hurricane coming up the east coast of the United States and it looks like it might hit hard.
What's going on in your states, US forumers? Is Irene something to worry about? If so, how serious is it?

Oh, man. My town is in the direct path according to the news. Dangit earth, why you hate the east coast? :/ An earthquake and a hurricane. Within a month. They're talking about canceling school.

My country doesn't has to deal with hurricanes nor earthquakes, but I'm praying for you guys! D: Is it too dangerous? Hide in the basement! Hide in the basement and take Toto with you! >.<

Michael Fish's Great Storm notwithstanding, this country's never had to deal with hurricanes but still, major hugs for everyone on the east coast. Stay safe! I can't imagine how scary it's got to be. D=

I'm warily eying Irene (for now) as it may hit where I live if it veers off its predicted path, but it won't be as bad because by the time it reaches Canada, it won't be a hurricane anymore.

I'm in the path of it. I'm not far north enough for it to fade out. There aren't any big trees immediately near the house so it should be fine, though. A lot of businesses are planning to close, so fortunately there shouldn't be too many people forced to go out in it.

Everyone's been stocking up on water and batteries. I don't think it'll be too terrible around here, but better safe than sorry!

At the moment I live in Oregon, so I'm quite safe.
However, I lived in Okinawa for several years, and got monsoons (as hurricanes are called if they come from the Pacific) 2 -3 times a year, so I'm quite familiar with the preparations and such. Stay inside a good, strong building, keep the windows covered, and make sure you've got plenty of food that you can eat at room temperatures, fresh water in jugs to drink, and don't go crazy and you'll be fine. More people got hurt by doing something dumb (like trying to drive away at the last minute when visibility was horrible).

They were talking about this on the news, and in the background, they played the song Rock You Like a Hurricane.
It was kind of hilarious & insensitive at the same time. I'm in TN, so I should be okay. We usually get some rain and stuff when things hit the east coast, but it shouldn't be anything too bad. Thinking about all you guys that have to deal with it head on though! <3

Hide in the basement and take Toto with you! >.< Dju, you're thinking of tornadoes, not hurricanes. You don't hide in the basement when a hurricane hits, because it brings floods with it. Basement would be one of the worst places to be. Plus, if you're like me and live in a flood zone, your house doesn't even have a basement. :B I live near a swamp in VA, so we're gonna get hit fairly hard. (Not as hard as NC, though, where it's going to land) Probably 30-60 mph winds, they're predicting. So we're pretty much guaranteed to get a power-out. I'm pretty sure my house is safe from the floods at least, though. Last time we had a Nor'easter, which comes with much more water, we got flooded on both ends of the street, but our house is just slightly higher than that. Still, the whole town of Poquoson's pretty much evacuated. And everyone's running around like a crazy person. The interstate North is gridlocked with traffic, and all the stores are jammed with people like it was Christmas Eve! We've stocked up on Spaghetti-Os and bread and peanut butter, so we should be okay for a weekend or so. Still not gonna be fun though. XD

Not that I would am going to do it...but it would be epic just to go out into an open area and open an umbrella with such fast winds...

I am thinking about all the people that are affected by the hurricane. It makes me feel glad I live in England. We sometimes get the remnants of hurricanes if they cross the Atlantic and travel up the gulf stream, but it's usually just gales and rain. I can deal with that seeing as the summers in the UK are usually cold windy and rainyy anyway lol.
