I'm actually kind of glad this got brought up again. Not because of anything happening lately in particular, but because we've been letting it sit. Yeah, this particular board isn't so much for having a list of rules as it is for discussing issues. The news things you (Candy) brought up probably should be discussed at some point, but I feel like as it is, we have enough to talk about without having to add more to the plate. Not to say it's not important, more that we should do a 'first-things-first' thing. Also, as it is, I don't think spoilers are as much of an issue at this time. (Off-site stories, maybe.) Though speaking of mods... now that GLQ is retired, the Taco could probably use a new live-in mod. Maybe I should bring that up with them. Or if someone else could, I'd appreciate that, too. As it is, does anyone have any objections to the suggested rules I brought up? If not, maybe we can start with those and trim a big chunk off of the to-do list.

XD And that's okay! Whatever you guys wanna discuss. Also, no objections here. I'm gonna bring up a few questions to non-Tacoers, as well, or former tacoers who left for rule-related reasons, and see what they say!

I'm an outsider and I can't say much, but I'd really fancy getting back into the Taco again. That said, I have no idea what the key issues are here. Most of the discussion is from several months ago, and I'm not sure how much has changed since then. ?_? Maybe everyone could narrow down to five to ten key points what they believe needs to be addressed? Something comprehensive and comprehensible.

I think that it's important to be open about things. I'm not sure what all is going on, but I think that it's important for people to be open about what needs fixing. That's what I think needs to be worked on.

I wouldn't say there have been no problems; more like people have been trying to avoid the issue while still being stressed, thus actually leaving it unresolved. I'd rather resolve them so we no longer have the desire to avoid them. We can get the easy stuff out of the way, but there are still issues that people are quietly stressing over and even avoiding the Taco over. There are multiple examples I can think of. And while 'it's just a game' is a slap in the face for many people (even to me if you go to/past a certain point), I still believe that many people still have a tendency to take things too far. In fact, I've considered (and have now decided on) suggesting that rule 5 or 6 be 'Take roleplaying with a grain of salt, and roleplay with a grain of salt.' Maybe something like this... 5. Respect Writers' wishes for (non-)serious and/or realistic RP Many Tacoers enjoy a good, serious roleplay, and consider the characters they use almost as if their own children; they're that real to them. If they wish to RP something intense, they are free to do so (within the rules of the Forum, of course). If you don't wish to do so, you don't have to, you can even ignore them if you'd like. However, please don't be rude to someone just because they prefer to play more- or less-seriously than you do. Similarly, don't try to force someone to play at your level. All levels of RP are welcome in the Taco (again, within the rules of the forum; keep it PG-13 or less). 6. Take roleplay with a grain of salt, and roleplay with a grain of saltWhile you may many enjoy a serious roleplay and feel like your characters are real, still remember that they're not quite literally real. Keep what happens in roleplay between the characters that it happens to. Don't take what someone RPs as a personal offense, and don't RP your own frustrations through the characters you use. Try not to obsess over something that happens in a RP, especially what someone else is doing and especially if it doesn't involve your characters. Also... 8. Above all, have fun!If you're not having fun, try starting something new that you think might be fun. Sound about right? About fair? Suggestions? Things that could stand to be rephrased?

I was not a Tacoer for too terribly long, though I'd like going back at some point, but... if "seriousness" of RPing is an issue, perhaps a place could be made for those who'd like to take their Taco characters into more serious plotty things and such...? Unless I'm completely misinterpreting the situation, in which case just toss a brick in my general direction and I'll stop talking.

Couple comments:
1) Live-in mod. GLQ was not promoted because of her association with Taco. The fact she was a regular there helped with her assignment on the board, but that was just one aspect.
So there's two views here to consider. One is promoting a new person... Which is pretty much not even a consideration. GLQ's hiatus is pretty temporary and we don't have the need for another mini (plus mods are not like a house of representatives/senate thing).
Second is assigning someone to participate/keep an eye on it. A lot of us do keep our eyes on multiple areas of the forum (Taco being one of them). But assigning someone to participate in a thread is kind of silly. Where to post and hang out is someone's choice.
If you mostly just want a mod that's Right There if something comes up on the thread... Well, we may not be actively participating, but there is a report function and PMs and other ways of contacting someone to step in if things get out of line.
2) Rules.
Just keep it basic guys. Just the very basic highlights of what someone should know going into the Taco. The mods will end up posting whatever rules thread that goes up (with reiteration of basic forum rules, reminders from mods, etc). Some of the things that are getting you guys stuck in (such as seriousness of RPing) kind of don't matter as basic rules and guidelines go.
That's not to say you shouldn't get an idea of it and discuss it somewhat. But don't lose sight of the goal here for the details.
A good thing to keep in mind anyway is that everyone will have different approaches to the thread and how they do things. Just like not everyone approaches the bloids the same way. Just finding the most basic common ground and going from there is usually the best starting places.

It's the end of the month, which usually means a new Taco thread. However, the Soft Taco thread for May only got 24 pages. There's the option of either extending the thread so that it goes for two months or starting a new thread anyway. I'm okay with either option. Opinions?
(And despite the activity level differences in the Hard Taco and the Soft Taco, I do not advocate eliminating one or the other as it's a nice option available.)

I think I vote for just making it the May/June Soft Taco and calling it good. 24 pages is really short. XD;

Who says one would be destroyed? They could become one! =D
Just extending it sounds okay to me.

So there has been some talk that should probably be addressed. So it's December again... You know one thing I want this year? Just one Taco board instead of two. Can we try it for one month? Well, the Soft Taco's been dead as all get out, and people seem to mostly just drift to whichever one's more active regardless, but... depends on what everyone else wants to do. XD; yeah it's usually one or the other that's more active so there might as well be just one A united board would be cool with me, but we need more votes on the subject. Backstory over. Now for my thoughts on the subject. You're right in that it just seems to be one or the other. But keep in mind that if there is just one Taco, you'll all have to find a way to make the differences between them work. (Primarily: The fighting permitted vs no-fighting rule.) Which quite frankly, I'm not sure how to do that other than to make the one Taco permitted to have fights. Which would be perfectly okay with me, but I'm not sure what others think. The only thing I could think of to solve the activity levels thing aside from merging is to extend the boards to be multi-month. ...Although honestly if that did happen, I would prefer that to start in January rather than December purely out of organizational reasons.

To be honest, I haven't really seen any major difference between playing styles between the ST and the HT anyway? I mean, I've seen just about the same amount of fighting on the HT as I have on the ST, which is just about none. XD; (Even most of the fights that do pop up are stopped before anything happens.) So I'm not sure it would really make much difference to begin with. Though if we still want to keep them separate (I don't really care either way at this point, tbh), we could do something similar to the 'Bloids, where we keep the same Taco going until it hits a certain number of pages. Though at the current activity level, we'd probably want to keep it something small, like 100.

We could just try it for a month. If it works out, we could start anew in January with two-month boards or something. If it doesn't, we could go back to split boards. That way we don't have to really dedicate ourselves to a change until after we've tried it. I do feel that December is a fitting month to try getting the boards back together, though.

I would step back and take a good look at what exactly the objective is. Sorry to rain on the parade, but I think people might be disappointed if nothing changes because they didn't consider what was really going on.
Do you want to increase activity, or work on unity?
If it's the former, not much is going to happen just by globbing things together. If the two boards are just hastily sewn together, it does not address the underlying reasons why the board (and to some extent the activity) split to begin with. Probably just the same people will show up as before, it'll just have a different name.
If you're looking to work on unity, that's a different matter and would almost require—at the very least be better served by—another extended discussion so as to avoid repeating these processes all over again.

I'm fine with keeping the new board every month thing. I'm also fine with staying separate or joining back together. However, Torkie is right. The other day was a great example and answered my questions about the so called 'violence' that made people shy away - it's not violence, but heroics the Soft Tacoers don't like. They would rather rp ordinary people with ordinary lives, and Hard Tacoers prefer adventure, action, and conflict. Tense situations that involve danger. Soft Tacoers are more for things like marriage and babies. I'm not sure how something like this can ever be completely resolved, but both sides can work to make it easier. The Soft rpers need to be more tolerant and the Hard Tacoers need to do a better job of moving fights to the fight boards. Sometimes that critical step gets a little ignored because we want to give others opportunity to join in. We need to realize that they don't want to.
