I was just about to post that. XDD I can't wait for Friendly Faith Plate to be released in full. It is, I thought. Did you download the .zip? The songs are much longer than the ringtone versions. I did, and it is in there. I missed it the first time I looked at it for some reason. I love The Ghost of Rattman. I'd heard the raw soundfile of him speaking before, but it still gives me chill every time I hear it.

Wow; firstly 'Want you Dead' is amazing. Second, Game Stop may have lowered their price, but EA Games sure didn't!! T_T
Oh oh oh; and how about the Promotional Videos? Anyone else seen them? My personal favorite would most definitely be #4 - The Long Fall Boots

Aw, might as well join. I've only played the demo, and some of the Flash version, but I'm liking what I know of the series. My birthday's coming up, and I'm planning on asking for Portal 2. 'What about the original Portal?' you ask? Well, if one of you would be willing to shell out $10 on Steam... *brick'd* Though yeah, between previous identity theft incidents over the internet, its improbable availability in game stores, and its crazy prices on eBay... Ah well. I think I'll be good if I get just Portal 2, anyway.

Well, I would highly suggest not touching Portal 2 until you've at least seen a play through of the first. Second, I would also highly suggest you give Portal 2 over to me- *shot*

Does having read the Portal 1 plot summary on Wikipedia count? EDIT: It looks like Game Stop either bumped the price back up to $50 new, or they haven't updated the price on their site. I don't see a way to check for different prices at individual locations, either. ANOTHER EDIT: I already asked this on the Steam thread, but by any chance does anyone have any guest passes?

Nuuu! Nu nu nu! You must experience the feeling of the origins the Aperture Industries; the feeling of handling the ASHPD for the first time! It's a requirement; not a suggestion! Coincidentally, here's my school report on Aperture~ Aperture Science Inc. is based in the United States. Its main facility, the Enrichment Center, is located in Upper Michigan, while others can also be found in Cleveland, Ohio. Originally a shower curtain manufacturer named ‘Aperture Fixtures’, created in 1947 by its founder Cave Johnson; it evolved over the course of half a century into an experimental physics research facility. It is often referred to as ‘Aperture Science’, simply ‘Aperture’, or even ‘Aperture Laboratories’. What has turned Aperture Fixtures into the multi-billion dollar corporation, Aperture Science Inc., which it is today, and what are the morals condoned by Aperture Science?
In 1956, Eisenhower – the 34th President of the United States of America – signed a contract with Aperture to manufacture shower curtains for the entire US Military, except the navy. Aperture Fixtures produced mostly shower curtains, eventually making Cave Johnson a billionaire. I believe that this is one of the utmost important events in Aperture’s history. It created the beginning fund for all following scientific endeavours, and enabled Aperture to become the large corporation it is today. In 1973, Repulsion Gel was first developed around this time for use as a diet aid, although it would be later changed into the blue goo it is today. It is also when Aperture’s focus changed from shower curtains to portal technology. Cave Johnson said “We could create a portal device… which would help the shower curtains somehow.”
For testing of the portals, only the smartest members of society were chosen for testing, but after being connected to a string of astronaut disappearances, Aperture Science focused on recruiting homeless people for testing instead, starting in 1976. In my opinion, this choice by Aperture was one for the better, as homeless people can be paid cheaply, and yet will still work hard for even scraps of food. Aperture was doing them a positive, by presenting each participant with a sixty dollar payment. Propulsion Gel was released around this time too, also to be later refined, into the orange gel it is today.
At this time, Cave Johnson was exposed to mercury poisoning – revealed to be ‘moon dust poisoning’ – as well as having duel kidney failure. Brain damaged, dying, and incapable of realizing time is not now flowing backwards, he created a three tiered research and development program. The results, he said, will "guarantee the continued success of Aperture Science far into the fast-approaching distant past." Obviously delusional, or partially insane, Cave’s orders were still followed, including the one that if he were to die, his secretary – Caroline – should have her conscious be inputted into a computer intelligence to look over Aperture Science in his absence. This is one of the few things I question about Aperture, as Cave was on his death bed, half-crazy and yet they still followed his demands fully.
The primary product of Aperture, which is the signature image of its facilities, is quite obviously; the large shower curtain. In actuality, it is truly; the A.S.H.P.D. – otherwise known as the Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device or more commonly called, the ‘Portal Gun’. It is a gun-shaped tool used to create two portals through which objects can pass. The Portal Gun was the third stage of the three tier program. The program started with the Heimlich Counter-Manoeuvre and the Take-A-Wish foundation. Once completed, these products became immediately unpopular. However, the A.S.H.P.D. was a radical success and Aperture was granted an open-ended contract to secretly continue research on the 'Portal Gun’. I agree fully with the funders of Aperture in that the Portal Gun is an amazing tool. It practically makes the impossible possible, as its uses are infinite, as is its usable range. It is shown to be able to link a portal between the Ohio based Enrichment Center and the moon. With technology like that, it’s no surprise that Aperture is the leading industry of portal technology.
In summery, a large portion of Aperture Industries’ wealth and success stems solely from the creation of the A.S.H.P.D. Other great sources of income and success include Repulsion Gel and Propulsion Gel which repel objects and increase velocity of moving objects, respectively. To an extent, the early shower curtain production resulted in a large initial cash flow, but was only comparatively momentous during the early stages of A.S.H.P.D. development. I have full belief in Aperture, be it in keeping my floor dry when I have a shower, or in transferring myself from my home to my school instantaneously. I support Aperture Science Inc., and think that you should too.

I have played the free demo, which goes up to the level where you're introduced to flinging. "In laymen's terms: speedy thing goes in, speedy thing comes out." I also played some of the Flash version. So it's not like I'm entirely unacquainted. Still, I'll see what I can do. It'll probably involve a temporary credit card... Or again, if anyone wants to shell out $10- *brick'd* Heh, something I discovered yesterday: If you haven't done it yet, try making a portal on a wall right where a camera is mounted. And ooh! Looks like Portal 2 is currently $30 new on Amazon! Also, nice essay. X3

I got the first game in the Orange Box, which my friend bought since he wanted someone he knew playing Team Fortress 2 XD
If you wait, I'm pretty sure Portal will go on sale on Steam for much less then $10, I think a while back it was $2.
Also, re-chargable debit visa cards. Very nice, very easy to use. Especially if you don't have a whole lot of income or whatever. And I don't think they charge much in monthly fees. I think the one I got in the past only charges 25cents or something a month, and that's only after the first couple of months or something.

Well, if it does go on sale, I'll need someone to alert me with a PM because I don't get on Steam that often. Anyway, it's not the price I'm worried about when it comes to the original Portal (I mean, it's only $10). The problem is internet security/identity theft. My parents have had their account hijacked twice from using it on the internet, so even if the place is pretty well trusted, we still don't want to take unnecessary chances. Also, ah, I don't know how likely I am to use it again in the near future, so I'd rather not risk paying fees for something I hardly ever use, even if they're small.

Well debit cards all have fees. The only place I knew that didn't was Washington Mutual. Now it's dead *grumbles about Chase taking his money* And I don't totally trust paypal, but that's the only other place I can think of (except that's linked to your debit/bank). The only thing I can think of is to put $10 (or whatever you wish to spend) into a pre-paid debit card (get at Walgreens, Walmart, CVS, other stores, etc), spend it, then you don't need to worry about it. The Pre-Paid cards are really the best, even with the small fee. Mostly since you can just put more money in it as you need it, really great for trips, or someone who doesn't want to link a bank account to the web. I'm actually going to cancel my bank account (haaaate Chase), take the LITTLE money I have in it out ($2 >.> *sad*), and pocket that XD But if I had more, I would have just thrown it into my old pre-paid card. --- youtu.be/NorZUFfpvC0A video about Chell making it out of Aperture Science. (fan made of course)

Yay~ I did, indeed, get Portal 2 as a birthday gift. As of now, I am about 85% of the way through the single-player mode (in other words, I'm part-way through chapter 9). Speaking of the story modes, anybody want to be a co-op buddy? I've already made friend-list invites on Steam. EDIT: Oh, so 'part 10' is the credits... Anyway, as you may have guessed, beat it. I think for now I'll take a look at the achievements and see which ones I haven't, well, achieved yet.

Some of the achieveables are just fun to get XD Some, are a bit of a pain But I noticed that none were totally hard where you'll never get them In fact, the only really hard ones I've noticed are the co-op ones And that's just because you need multiple people XD

Sweet. I'm kind of waiting to see if they include the credits song in the third album. By the way, I ended up mostly playing with random partners for Co-op. The experience was not much unlike getting a random group together for a dungeon in WoW: Some people are good, others are on the opposite end of the spectrum. (There were times where I'd go directly from one type of partner to the other.) The main difference is that, in WoW, usually at least half of the rest of the party is actually trying to get through the dungeon. (On the flipside, the other person being a good player means potential for a good party as a whole.) Did play a few levels with my cousin, but ended up playing through to the end with an advanced player. Learned a few neat tricks along the way, a couple of which are the 'co-op Portal truths.' - If there is a Light Bridge or Excursion Funnel, the first portal is going to use it. (By extension, I like to say 'if there is Propulsion or Repulsion Gel, you will need to use a portal somehow to interact with it.')
- If you make it to the exit first, there's no need to backtrack. Just help your partner over to the exit. (I can think of one instance where this isn't true, but even then it's a small case and easily fixed.)
Anyway, both willing and wanting to pass other tricks on.
