Solitude 18th of January, 2011
For some of you this word is a dreaded and hideous concept, but for others it is beloved and cherished. I am among the latter group. When we find a place of solitude, a place where noise means nothing and all around you is the felt presence of nature, your mind can cease it's rushing and rest in the stillness and the warmth. Thoughts become clearer, ideas form, and troubles that once seemed so all-consuming and insurmountable are shrunk back down to their normal size.
It is during these times that we can realize our own insignificance, and thus understand how wonderful and beautiful we are. We can appreciate the value of silence, listen to the song of nature and perhaps even be at peace while in our sheltered place of solitude. These moments are when we truly see that we are tiny creatures clinging precariously to a huge and magnificent world, where everything is put into the right perspective.
Maybe you don't like those thoughts, but surely you can appreciate the sheer wonder of them. That we are so insignificant, and yet so wonderfully made, so diverse, with differing talents and weaknesses and experiences and loves and thoughts and opinions ... Like snowflakes. Fragile, numerous, and yet no two being exactly the same.

A Clean Home 19th of January, 2011To some of you this will be a foreign concept, but to others you'll know exactly what I'm talking about. Y'know when things get dirty and you keep thinking 'I really should give that a clean ...' but time or laziness or both get in the way, and before you know it, what was a small mess has sprouted fuzz and legs and crawled off somewhere to start a species of its own. But then one day you get up and think 'I'm going to clean today.' So you get out a bucket and a mop and gloves and sponges and scrubbers and jiff and all manner of cleaning products that come in handy squirty bottles and you begin to wage war on the grime which threatens to overrun your home. You work systematically through each room, squirting, wiping, rubbing, scrubbing, mopping, etc. Ad after hours of back breaking work, after sweat and headaches from cleaning fumes and wrinkly hands, you finally sit back and survey your clean home. Your ankles my hurt, your back and neck and arms may be aching, but all of that doesn't matter, because you can sit back with satisfaction. You can relax in the knowledge that the war against grime is, at least for now, yours to command. And boy do you sleep well that night! Happy 50th Smile, everyone.

You've Got it Better Than Him 1st of February, 2011
This is a clip from a New Zealand TV show called Pulp Sport, a humerous look at the country's sporting stereotypes with a bit of nonesense thrown in for fun. Actually it's mostly the other way around; one part sports news, mostly silly stuff. Anyway, this segmant follows the documentation of numerous pranks played against Hamish MaKay, a television sports presenter for the TV3 network, the same one that hosts Pulp Sport.
When you're feeling down, think about this. At least you've got it better than that guy! xDDDDDD
