I'm randomly playing through the game again and I noticed one big thing. (Though I don't know how much it applies with the current edits.) After putting in the key, I clicked out of the window so I could do something in another window. When I clicked back, I found I couldn't move my character. But the game was still running. I could for some reason still click on the menu button and mess around in the menu, but I couldn't do anything else. EDIT: Okay, it happens regardless of whether I click out of the window or not. EDITx2: Okay, it doesn't seem to happen if I manually go to my inventory to use the key. But it does happen if I try to use the key from my hotkeys. (If I have room in my hotkeys, I always put some of the keys from the current dungeon in there just to save time. Though by the time of the third boss, I usually don't have enough room.) This next one isn't a bug and I don't even know if it happens every time, but I found it interesting enough.
If you exit the inn from the other side and circle around the shop to approach Jarth and Abril from the bottom, they'll come down to meet you. There will also be this random guy who never moves from his spot, and he'll just stand there awkwardly, as if he's part of the conversation. ...Or as if he's spying on us! A Terris Town spy! We're onto him!
EDIT: Minor typo in Otanis. "Yes. Are you Jerann's wife, Enna?" Shouldn't it be Jarenn? At least it's better than the other typo. XD

I got in that room, skipped the lock at first, opened both chests and then took the ore from the right. As I took the item (I think it was a reset orb?) the ore in the left one reappeared. So I took it again! Little bug and not sure if it's repeatable.

I do believe what's causing the game to freeze, GLQ. ^^ When the key is inserted, it triggers a scripted event to take place, so the game goes into "script mode," so to speak. For some reason, though, the script timer isn't incrementing...
Judging from what Poldon's saying, it seems like the two-chests glitch is back as well. xD; Oy, that room can be a pain sometimes.
As for the mole (haw haw haw), I shall move him. :3
As far as general progress goes, I've had my hands full with RL, plus I've been doing commissions for other peoples' games in order to make an income. I'm definitely eager to continue, though, because I have fantastic ideas for the next dungeon. ^_^

Ooh! While I'm here I'm gonna say I found a cheap way out of death. When I die I've discovered that closing the game window while the death message is still on screen you will return to the beginning of that room, I guess because the game doesn't 'save' the death until after that screen. So when I re-open it the last thing it saved was entering that room. XP
Edit: Terra pointed out that on the paper in the tutorial there is a typo. 'Hearby' instead of 'hereby'.

First of all - I haven't gotten that far, but this is a pretty fun game, Strife. ^_^ I'm enjoying it a lot, so far. I found a tiny glitch: So, I'd just finished fighting Derec and the sword fell...outside the hallway. XD I couldn't walk over to pick it up, though I could still pick it up by clicking on it.
Yup, it's in the black void beyond the wall. Kind of unreachable by means other than the ~MAGIC OF CLICKING~ I also encountered a couple of issues with trying to talk to NPCs who were standing by doors and getting sent through the door instead, but nothing major. ^_^ Not sure what could be done about it, anyway, short of mapping them to different keys... ...and I should probably get to sleep rather than continue playing. XD; EDIT: Oh, and one more thing: Am I doing something wrong with the Notepad function? XD; I haven't been able to get it to save anything I've written down there. EDIT 2: I was just learning the Spin attack, and because I'd remapped X to be the Jump key, Control was the sword attack key. During most of the lesson, Jarth referred to the Control key, but in the last part, when he was talking about upgrading the skill, he said something about tapping the X key rapidly, not Control. (Don't remember the exact quote, sorry.) EDIT 3: Okay, so I was in the room with the three switches. I pressed them and fought the hungry spiders and the purple crystal broke, but I stupidly forgot that I was supposed to pick up a key from the crystal. XD; When I remembered this quite a bit later and went back to get it, there wasn't one there. Now I can't progress in the game. XD;

Thanks for the notifications, Terra. ^_^
It's strange that the key no longer appears... I could've sworn that I put a safeguard against it. In any case, you can attach your save file to your next post and I'll just put the key in there for now. :3

Okay, I attached the file. I hope it's the right one. Thanks, Strife! I hope that this problem doesn't turn out to just be me being stupid...Attachments:

Aaand here ya go. ^_^ The missing key should be in your inventory now. I'll see what I can do about fixing that issue in the future. Attachments:

Thanks again, Strife! ^_^ EDIT: I thought I'd just edit this post, because it was the last one in the thread... Well, I decided to go wander around through the Dyre Woods again, maybe go back to Terris Town (though I can't find my way back - am I just not finding the right way or was it blocked off, and I somehow don't remember it?), and I found a secret area underneath a bush in I-1. Every time I go into that secret room and smash the rocks with Power Strike, it still gives me ore, even though I've done it multiple times before. Was this intentional?

Okay...I ran into another game-breaking problem. XD; I was in the Spider Tunnels, and I decided to go unlock the door in the deeper, purple area, but after unlocking it, I decided to go through the nearby stone door, instead. I did, and then when I came back, the door I'd unlocked was locked again, and the key wasn't in my inventory anymore. XD; I've attached the save file. Attachments:

Argh, I gotta figure out what's causing these doors to revert to their original state. xD; Anyway, I attached a fixed save for ya. Attachments:

Thanks, Strife. ^_^
I have another thing to mention, though. XD; I made a red potion, and the bottle of water, instead of turning into an empty bottle, seems to have disappeared. Was that supposed to happen? I don't think it did last time I made a red potion.

Was that supposed to happen? I don't think it did last time I made a red potion. The red potion uses the same bottle, so in order to get it back, you have to drink the red potion. Think of it as Ikkin adding the apple ingredients to the already existing water. ^_~

After roughly three and a half years of development, I think I've finally built myself into a corner. I find that the game file takes several minutes to load and save in MMF2, and all of the old events that I created when I was less experienced are starting to pile up on me. It's like opening a cupboard in your house that you haven't used in ages only to find that it's been taken over by bugs.
Does this mean that the project will be canned? NEVERRRR! However, an engine revamp is looking more appealing to me by the day. I'm strongly considering remaking the game from scratch, but reusing all of the assets I've created to speed things up (i.e. the dungeon layouts, graphics, sprites, etc.)
To put it in perspective, here are some of the benefits that I would reap from remaking the game engine:
- All of the bugs that have been plaguing me will be completely gone, and any new bugs that crop up with the new engine will be far easier to fix. - Now that I know how to use functions effectively, I can cut down the number of lines of code by a huge amount. For example, every line of dialog currently takes up its own line, but if I can condense all dialog use into a single function, this can easily chop off 1500-2000 lines. Not to mention, it would make it far easier for me to edit dialog later. - Instead of hard-coding all of the dialog into the game, I can extract it from an external file to make it easier to modify. This would also allow me to translate the game into other languages if necessary. - Instead of using the illusion of 3D space, I could give the game world a true height map so that the player can actually jump over certain obstacles. This would cut down on invisible barriers, and it would also allow me to get more creative with the combat system (i.e. certain attacks tossing monsters into the air). - Now that I've fleshed out a decent part of the story and the game world, I can go back and make changes to the plot more easily, such as adding in more NTWFers earlier on. - I can increase the frame rate from 50 to 60 without having to adjust all of the timing-related events to compensate.
This is only a thought right now, but when/if I decide to remake the engine, I will be releasing the old version of the game to the public, such that you don't need permission from me to download it. xD
