For years the beings of the Valley lived in peace, but now, the fog that shrouds it has a taint. The Valley of Darkness has become a place where evil thrives, and the torch fires lighting the land of no sun have gone out, to burn never again.
Now, the only light comes from the long-dorment Mountainous Tower, which had at one time been the center of government, a monolithic structure rising high above the fog. But the Tower has long been abandoned, even to the point of being rumored to be haunted. No light has come from it for centuries, not until very recently, about when the other things started...
Creatures of unknown species and origins have struck the many villages of the Valley, and now the commoners of the village Onsraed have called a council of people from surrounding villages, as well as a few representatives of Onsraed, to discuss uniting to send a team to the tower to discover by what power this is happening.
((Please join as a council member. Be any species you want, but preferably a Tolkein/Warcraft/D&D type species like Dwarf, Orc, Elf, etc.))
Nurak Warhammer called the meeting to order. He stood above a great table lit with small candles. His dwarven eyes glinted in the dim room, and he laid his hammer on the table. "As you all know, the torches refuse to light, and monsters have killed many of the loved ones of those gathered here... including mine own daughter, who, rest her spirit, will be avenged by the hammer of mine ancestor Grabthar. Anyways, we have gathered to discuss such matters and, if the motion carries, send out a group to investigate these happenings, which seem to be linked to the Mountainous Tower somehow. Shouldst we send a team? Why or why not? I herefore open the floor to discussion."

Arianna Treon raised her quill pen with a question. 'I have not seen this Mountainous tower properly, only glimpses. Are we sure that the light is coming from within the tower, rather than a thin beam projected from somewhere else and reflected by a crystal? I've seen similar things at the Light house, in The Undergound Sea.' The scribe bit her lip. She was probably the youngest member of the council, in her Mid-Twenties. Even then, they had only admitted her because she had good knowlege of the mystic elements and also second sight. the studied the pattern of stones on the ground with growing apprehension

Nurak shook his head gravely. "No, mine eyes lie not. The light comes from inside the Tower... I would bet mine hammer on it."

An Elven male named Tharek Silvermoon sat at the table, his eyes closed in deep thought as some opening statements and questions were made. He looked to be no older than his thirties by human standards, but of course he was centuries older. He had long, dark hair that fell down past his shoulders.
His eyes opened, revealing them to be a striking green. He opened his mouth to speak. "I... Have no doubt that the source of this evil comes from the Tower itself, but... I do not think that sending a team in is the logical cource of action." He had quite a deep voice for an elf, and spoke with age and wisdom, but also some hesitation, as he knew that the other council members would not agree with him. "I think that the best thing to do at this time... Would be to move everyone out of the valley, find a safer place to live."

"Moving everyone out of the valley would be extremely foolish." This said blankly, coldly. "It would take far too long and the dangers that places out of the valley pose may be greater than those within. The monsters have become a nuisance to us, and the possibility of a greater evil controlling the light and the monsters disturbs us. We believe you should send a team."
Long black hair, pale skin, and crimson eyes were a startling combination at the best of times, but when coupled with an icy stare, they were positively frightening. Hecale Argenox leaned back in her chair, surveying the other council members calmly, almost as if daring them to challenge the views of not only her...but her kind.
Hecale represented the demon faction within the Valley. And the demons were not happy with the threat the monsters and their summoner posed. An ancient blood pact prevented the demons from attacks on the innocent Valley dwellers, and they no longer needed or wanted to kill, but demons did not like the thought of something in the Valley that could overpower them.
Hecale tapped her fingers on the table and waited.

'I agree with Hecale. Here, we are safer than if we were nomadic. That I know, having grown up as a nomad, know that many dangers exist on the road.' The pattern of stones on the table was alarming. 'I know a good chunk of you do not believe in second sight, but this pattern alarms me. The rogue, the knife, the moon, the beast footprint and the flower do not usually mingle. Neither do Graveyard, yew and Ankh. The former pattern makes no sense and the latter contradicts itself.' Arianna returned do studying the stones with growing apprehension.

Nurak nodded while the others spoke. As a member of the species personified by rocks, he always tried to keep his opinions solid and well-grounded. A strong part of this is, at least in his mind, understanding the views of others.

Tharek shook his head. "The fact that it contradicts itself could mean that it means nothing, child. Sometimes, a pipe is just a pipe."
The elf closed his eyes again, considering things carefully. "I agree that the life of a nomad is dangerous, but as is staying here. In any case, I will not try to presuade you all to my way of thinking, as I can see already that you will not hear it. But one thing that I can't help but wonder... I believe that the source of the light in the tower comes from a great evil. Therefore, I cannot help but wonder whether, if we send a team in... Whether that team will ever return."

"If the team does not return, that should be a signal to the others in the Valley to take your suggestion and leave." Hecale tilted her head slightly, watching Tharek closely. "If you have no wish to join the team yourself, then you also have no right to stop those who wish to join. And we will force none to join." She traced the stones in the table with a finger. "Additionally, if the source of the light is from a great evil, then it makes one wonder why it would choose this dark and misted Valley as its place. We hold nothing of considerable power save our lives themselves. If the people leave, how can we be sure it will not follow? Destruction of the evil will end its threat."

"Hecale is right, what reason wouldst one of such power have to come here? The lands of the bright night are where evil lurks, not our Valley." The Dwarf added sagely.

Three paces.
Pillar.
Sketch and seal mark.
Repeat.
Upon reaching first mark again flee and wait.
Around the Onsraed council sat seven aged and weathered pillars of no real significance. And upon each, on the side facing away from the concerned souls, lay a curse rune. Funny thing about those curse runes, none of them were the same and yet all seemed to be happy to see each other.
A small lone figure stood atop the building where these pillars and souls gathered, high above the weary, cold guards standing confident at post. From here even the small candles and lamps in the village below could not mask the overwhelming, swallowing, grasping darkness. Immeasurable and indescribable the black landscape was.
Pulling out of the reverie the figure stood taut and slowly raised slender arms and graceful hands overhead. With a clap that pierced and echoed over the silence outside each little curse rune pulsed in harmony in the banter below.

Hecale, about to speak, froze as a strange sound resounded through the still air.
"Keep silent," she said sharply, standing up. For once there was a development in this meeting that she had not anticipated. Her eyes darted around. Something had shifted and changed. A chill ran up her spine. There was magic somewhere, dark and bitter on her lips like a smear of blood.
The torches went out, and Hecale saw flashes of red light on the seven pillars surrounding them before the council was plunged into complete darkness. The panicked babble of council members filled the air and the hum of evil magic grew louder behind them.
"Someone, get a light!" Hecale yelled over the crowd. Demons could not perform the magics of light or fire. Such spells had been forbidden them. "Get a light!" she cried louder, drawing her black dagger. She would be forced to fight black magic with black magic, if only she could see what curse had been cast over them.
Danger. Evil. These melded around the council as a scream broke out. Hecale narrowed her eyes in anger. They were dealing with something that could pose more trouble than she had thought.

Arianna grabbed her stones and dropped them. they flared up, the Sun, Ankh, and Torch symbols standing black against the red, gold, and white glowing stones. 'Gah! I thought I was coming here to settle this mystery, but it seems we have another on our ears.' The light threw the room into high relief, every shadow a place where a hidden curse or stealthy assasin could hide.

Sensing the rising chaos below a low sigh was released. Curling a smile the lone figure fell backwards off the edifice. A soft cushion of wind suddenly swelled and carried it away like a mother's gentle arms.
There was no longer a need for the impromptu light as the seven marks burned from red to a bright, blinding white, spilling a dance of light and shadow into the chamber. Then suddenly the light was extinguished and all that was left were their original charcoal marks upon the stone.
Silence followed.
Then more.
And more.
The council members exchanged discouraged glances. Was that it? Could they continue? Should the guards be alerted?
There was a suddenly rustle of cloth as seven council members, two half-orcs, an elf, two humans, a dwarf and a half-elf collapsed on the great table. A human woman screamed as her partner's head tilted over revealing a dark symbol burned into his throat and pupils completely covered in a sickening white.
From the cocoon of wind the girl sensed their fear, smiled and put her head down for a well-deserved nap.

Arianna let out a Catlike howl of rage as seven of her fellows slumped onto the table. 'This,' she exploded, 'Is why this question must not remain unanswered. We should send a team, and fast. The Unknown is good in some degrees, but at this we must find out. I have a feeling that some of the people may know parts of what has transpired here.'
