Birthday Twin Powerz Meetup - Day Twelve
We slept in quite late on Friday morning, Thursday having been a big day. We got dressed and went out to buy various snacks and things. On the agenda for the day was a visit to the Botanical Gardens in Christchurch to have a picnic with Elizabeth. We met her outside Captain Ben's, got fish and chips to compliment our snacks and headed on the bus. While waiting for her to arrive, however, Sarn and I had our first taste of dancing together in a brief waltz on the street corner. We weren't spotted. <_< >_>
Once there we sat down to our noms and chatted away happily. Elizabeth was a pleasure to be around and full of laughter. When Sarn produced two camping mugs Elizabeth hated as a joke, she practically shrieked with laughter. xDDD We shared stories and jokes and before long our bellies were full and we wanted to go walking around the beautiful gardens.
We saw lots of fountains and little winding paths amid the trees, bushes and flowers, and we ended up meeting Jason there because he works at the gardens. We were just heading to see where he worked when an earthquake hit. At first I didn't know what was happening, I thought perhaps the rattling was just a strong wind, but when Sarn pulled me to the middle of a courtyard away from the buildings the ground started shaking and I figured it out. It was freaky, but not too bad, and once I got over the shock it was actually sort of fun.
After Sarn sent messages to her family letting them know she was okay, we went off to the rose gardens. We figured that everyone would suddenly be rushing to get home, so if we waited at the gardens for a bit longer it would give the roads time to clear. While we browsed and snuffled at the beautiful roses, we also nibbled on the last of our snacks, and then Sarn suggested we pray for the city and people, which we did while sitting on a shady bench together.
When we had had enough of the gardens we left to find the nearest bus stop, thankful that the buses were still running. We didn't have long to wait, and soon we were saying goodbye to Elizabeth at her stop. When we got home I could tell Sarn was tired so we lay down to watch a movie. Sarn's parents were due to pick us up in the evening, but their truck broke down and we found we had an entire evening to kill.
So we went to Jason's flat to play Minecraft on his server. We got Indian takeaways from a place near where he lives, gobbled it hungrily and set about building magnificent structures, fending off creepers and eventually blowing the whole place up in a massive TNT drop. By the time we were done it was 1am and I was pretty tired, so we called a taxi and went to wait on the roadside.
After half an hour standing in the freezing cold being silly with Jason, Sarn called again and found they hadn't sent the taxi out. They finally did and we got home at about half past 2am, at which point we flopped into bed.
We only got a few hours' sleep because Sarn's dad came to pick us up at 5am to take us back to Oxford for Christmas. During the night, there were numerous aftershocks.
