Kaythar hurried over and broke Tamur's cage. "Thick lock," he said as he was breaking it. "I suppose they didn't want a half-lion to break loose, huh?" The door swung open.

Tamur paused in amazemnt. "You really want to help us." She walked out of the cage. "I'm going to help you with this." Her eye glinted with years of hate. Her claws were out, ears were alert to every sound, eyes watching the shadows, and her tail twicting.

Appearance: Kyrani is a fennec fox with iridescent feathered wings and green eyes, and has been given the intelligence of a human. When Storm's older brother was buying a dragon in a pet shop that sold experiments, Storm met and bonded with Kyrani. It is Kyrani who finally discovers Xavier's location.

Xavier moaned in his sleep, tossing about in restless slumber. He slept as he had for years, half-sitting awkwardly and uncomfortably against the hard stone wall of his cell: a position caused by the shackles chaining his wrists to the wall. His ankles were similarly chained. His right leg was twisted badly; a fracture that had failed to heal smoothly. Medical care was not a luxury the scientists spent on him, and as if he did not already suffer enough, his leg constantly pained him.
The door swung open. Xavier slowly opened his eyes; not quite human eyes, almost lupine. His canine ears pricked at the sound. A scientist entered, bearing Xavier's meal in one hand and her testing equipment in the other. Xavier's ears went back in anger at the sight of her. She set the bowl down on a feeding table near the chained figure, and took out a syringe to do her daily testing. As she approached, Xavier's eyes snapped open and his teeth bared in a canine snarl. He lunged, but the chains held firm. The scientist skipped back out of reach. "They told me Experiment 13 was tricky," she muttered. As if to encourage herself, she added, "It can't reach me, after all... it's just a dumb animal." She steadied her hand and completed the testing. Xavier yelped in pain.
As she exited the door, she took one last look at the prisoner. He was standing nearly erect now, an expression of mixed fury and sorrow in his eyes. "Just a dumb animal," she repeated to herself, and closed the door.
Xavier slumped in his chains. She was right. He had been reduced to a dumb animal. His brother, his family, his friends... even if by some miracle he managed to escape, would they accept him now? He could never return now. For he was more fully wolf than the other experiments were fully animal. As well as his yellow-flecked eyes, lupine ears and tail, he found himself surrendering to the wolf's instincts as well. He knew good and well it would do no good to lunge at the scientist like that, but he couldn't help it.
Just an animal.

Tyler, his sister, and his parents sat quietly around the dinner table. His father made a few polite questions about work to his mother, who answered in an equally quiet tone. After several minutes of this, Tyler burst out angrily. "How can you? How can you act like nothing is wrong?" His parents looked startled at his outburst, and Tyler raged on. "Xavier is gone! You act like you're trying to forget about him, but I can't forget. I won't."
His mother pulled him close in an embrace. "Tyler," she whispered. "It's been hard on all of us, since Xavier passed away."
"He's not dead," said Tyler, pulling away and standing up. "He's alive, he's out there somewhere. He has to be. Somewhere..." He turned away in helpless rage, tears in his eyes.

Storm approached the lab quietly. "Are you sure this is it?" she asked the creature at her side.
"Positive," Kyrani snapped back. "I remember this place far too well."
"I know you think it's the right place," said Storm. "I mean, are you sure that he's here?"
"Yes," said Kyrani impatiently. "I remember the stories while I was here. I was rather young, but I remember hearing about Experiment 13 from the scientists - or rather, overhearing. They all seemed rather terrified of him. I've been asking around in the neighborhood, the local dragons and such - everyone who's heard of him described a boy that looked exactly like Tyler... with obvious differences from the experimenting. They're twins, right?"
"Yes," whispered Storm. She knew how hard Tyler had taken the loss. She also knew from Kyrani how badly experiments were treated. Those experiments with human forms rarely were set free, unless they escaped as a few had done. And if Xavier had escaped he would have returned home long ago. She had to rescue him.
"Let's go," she said quietly.

Mytsis glanced down, and her eyes widened in shock. A human and an experiment were walking together. More shocking, the experiment was free, and they were willingly going toward the lab! She plummeted out of the sky towards them, wanting to warn them.

"Whaaa-" Storm was cut off as she noticed Mytsis overhead. "What was that?" she whispered.
Kyrani gave her friend an ironic glance. "That, my dear, is a dragon. I should think you'd have that figured out by now."
Storm sighed. "I mean, what's he doing here?"
"Dunno. You can ask her." Kyrani sighed. "I wish you'd figure out how to tell which is which with dragons."

"I wish you'd figure out how to tell which is which with dragons." ((Mytsis isn't a dragon. She's a part-falcon experiment)). Mytsis landed, panting. "Don't go there!" She hissed in a clipped voice. "Tha' no' good! They lock you up and steal your mind! Ge' away!" |

((Eh...*shrugs* And Elycien...I think Kittygirl's character was experiment 13...Not sure, though.))
Aulani stepped out of her cage. "Just let the rest of them go; I'm pretty sure none of us want to stay here...And do it quick. The scientists will soon find out your little explosion was a diversion, and they'll come back." she told Kaythar.
