We are currently in the process of moving our planetside spaceport from its current location in a seedy sector of Tabloid Town to its own area. The location and design of the new spaceport should have fewer problems with random scoundrels wandering in off the streets, be more comfortable for passengers by virtue of being in an open area, and allow for a higher volume of traffic between Spacefleet and the NTWF. It will also conform to the requirements set forth in the recent inter-guild agreements.
If you are willing and able to help in the construction of the new spaceport, please sign up here.
So basically I'm asking who's still active, and if there's anything anyone wants to do to prepare for the upcoming guild changes.

I am ready and more than willing to aid in the move and construction of a new spaceport. Now that Spacefleet has become more open about its own existence, I believe that we should begin advertising the station more freely as a tourist destination.

I am ready and able to help moving and such. That is if we actually finish Redemption and make it official in the RP about me being in here. But that aside, willing, ready and able.

I don't have a choice in this do I? Well then.. who am I going to be stuck babysitting for security from ebil rabbits in the woods? Am I going to have to give a bear safety speech? I have a bear to help with that actually...

Actually.. speaking of bears, where do we plan on putting this place? I'm kinda fond of the idea of putting it in a desert (you'd be able to see people coming a mile away, and fewer trees to cut down) but then we would have to deal with all the sand, and we'd be easy to spot by any outside alien forces (though hopefully SF would be able to get those before they reach the planet). I'm sure our scientists could come up with some sort of filter to help keep it under control, but it might also make getting there difficult. Maybe a valley or something? We'll need lots of space for the bigger ships. I also propose we don't trash the Tabloid Town Spaceport, just downsize it's operations.

[glow=red,2,300]*pops in* If you're talking about the super-secret Space HQ that I'm not supposed to know about, I recommend a super-secret underground lab. That way, when a ship takes off from under the desert, you get a cool pops-out-of-nowhere-with-sand-sliding-off-of-it-like-a-Final-Fantasy-Airship sorta feel. *notes that security has noticed her* DON'T TASE ME, BRO! *flee*[/glow]

I would say just protect it with a low-grade shield, like a milder version of what we use for Spacefleet itself. That would keep out any sand, as well as pests (sentient or otherwise). And you could just open a part of it to let people or ships in and out. And I'd certainly hope an invading force would be stopped before it reached the planet--that IS one of the things that Spacefleet was originally founded to do, after all. Underground hangars would work, and you could keep it under the same aforementioned shield after clearing out all the sand. (Sorry, Rider, but dramatic as it might be, falling sand would be hell to clean up.)

I agree, no falling sand. We will need a shuttle service to get people out there if it's going to be in the middle of a desert though. Sandstorms could cause delays on some of our smaller flights, but a desert could be fun. Sand boarding anyone? On that note are we going for a sand-dune desert or a badlands desert?

Sand dune, no falling sand, even though that would look swicked (super wicked). I just had an idea! We need to name one of the ships, get ready for this....THE MAGIC CARPET 500!! I don't know why 500, I just chose that number.

It would be easier to find/make smooth surfaces to build on with sand dunes, since we can easily remove any dunes that get in the way. Badlands are also more likely to have mountains, canyons, and other terrain features that attackers can hide in. A desert base will also require a stronger foundation and a reliable, long-lasting energy supply to run all the environmental controls. On the other hand, badlands look awesome and the passengers will love it. [glow=red,2,300]*notes that security has noticed her* DON'T TASE ME, BRO! *flee*[/glow] She's getting away! Quick, break her legs! *throws flashbang*

We may have to drill down to create some nice strong foundations.

She's getting away! Quick, break her legs! *throws flashbang* I thought we were trying to PROMOTE tourism? Well, Rider kind of said that she'd broken in and she acted all suspicious when we saw her, so yeah.

Well it's only natural that a pirate would flee from security forces. It's not like we're discussing anything top secret here. Infact most of our discussion right now is related to sight seeing potential and maintenance/cleaning. Not exactly high end security stuff and I would welcome input from potential tourists on what they might like.
*picks up Rider and ignores the fact that she probably still can't hear or see.*
So mate, what kind of stuff would you like to see in a waiting room for passengers?

Darnit, I was going to make all those points, then I saw you beat me to it. Yeah, it would require quite a bit less engineering to make the spaceport in a sandy desert. Probably lots of pamphlets and maps and tourist info and stuff. Ooh! And artwork done by some of the different alien races that live on the station. Wait, you weren't asking me...? Oh.
