Huntress had lifted the crossbow at the same moment James lifted his rifle. The bolt whizzed off. But while the rifleman's bullet had aimed for her and missed its target by about two feet, Hunty's target was considerably bigger. It pierced one of the Judgment's mainsails and something green started flowing down the ropes at once. One of them snapped. Then another. Then the whole main rigging came down, with ropes sizzling with acid falling onto the deck, burning holes in the planks at places.
"I suppose that counts as an attack," she grunted, then raised her voice. "Alright then. Mateys, ATTACK! And remember, defending the ship is the priority!"
One of the flaming arrows hit the mainsail - predictably enough, big as it was. Another three hit the deck, where they sizzled and then faded, leaving some burnt marks on the wood - the planks were still moist with Keng's recent deckswabbing. A number whizzed past the foreyards, past the reefed sails and fell into the sea. And several more hit several little objects and drier spots, happily bursting into flames.
"Locate all the fires and put them out," Hunty barked to the meepits, sliding down the ropes.
"The mainsail will be tricky to put out," stated Bloody Mary, pointing at the sail which was already blazing.
"Get one of the mages! And when all else fails, throw it into the sea, we have spares."

Kat could hear the noises of scuffles outside her quarters, but she couldn't stop - she was only down to a few runes to translate, three books were already open in front of her besides the two pieces of parchment, and her quill was dripping purple ink onto her paper when she should be writing entire words.
"Wait...is this 'fire' or 'mire'?"
She rested her head on one of the books, looking down and seeing a translation chart for ancient characters and their meanings in English, Spanish, French, German, Chinese and Japanese. Translating was hard work.

((... I know we said to heck with details, ... but if the acid is strong enough to take out half the ship's rigging by putting one tiny hole in a sail, how come it's not eating through the projectile it covers, and if it's dripping that much, how come none of it dripped onto our deck? And how the heck did you get it on that bolt to begin with without melting your fingers off? I could go on. Like where exactly did it hit the main sail so that it could reach the ropes on both sides of the sail? How much acid was on that thing that it could continue the chemical reactions for so long without running out of reactants? I'm no chemistry genius, and I try to let these things slip, especially when the odds are against the group it benefits, but my mind just sees to many problems. ))

((I'm going to put this out here now - Elycien was a well-known sky pirate captain who piloted an infamous airship, before she was almost caught and captured by the police of one of the many airborne skyports. Now she and her Gathows are in hiding among sea pirates, hoping they can escape attention.))
Blitz knew he shouldn't draw attention to himself, but there was fire. It really looked as if things were starting to get interesting. Noting with interest that the crew included other Petpets, he bounded up to one of the Meepits. "So," he said curiously. "What are you doing? What ship is this, anyway? It seems familiar." He knew he was probably bothering the other pirate Petpet, but being bothersome by nature, Blitz generally didn't care.
Elycien, crouching below deck just beneath the trapdoor, listened to the sounds going on above. She winced. "Do you think he'll be okay?"
Blizzard laughed. "Elc, I'd be more worried about the other guys if I were you."
"That's what I meant." She rolled her eyes. "There's a fight going on up there, and I don't expect Blitz to stay out of it. I just hope he doesn't get carried away and burn the ship down..."
Blizzard jumped down to the wooden floor and walked several paces. "Maybe we should go find a more comfortable place to wait this out," she said. "Unless you want to go help out, too?"
Elcie laughed. "I know the crew of the Weewoo, and they're perfectly capable of taking care of themselves. Come on."
((Kat... is your cabin below deck? And Cyborg, I'm already below deck.))

Ikkin growled as a flaming arrow whizzed by her head. She should have been ready to with a wind to blow the arrows off target, not waiting around until they hit the Weewoo! But, there wasn't much she could do now; she was a fire mage, but that was more related to creating fires than putting them out.
So, rather than do something she wasn't good, at, she'd do something she was - attack. She dived down towards the water, away from the Judgment, catching herself with her winds moments before she would touch the water. She'd give those pirate-catchers a target that could deal with those arrows and hopefully spare the Weewoo from more damage.
She flew close to the water, using the Weewoo to block her from sight as long as she could, rising up only when she was on the opposite side of the Judgment. Hopefully, the crew would be paying too much attention to the Weewoo to notice the lone pirate behind them.
The trick worked well enough. She managed to make it up to the deck of the ship before any of them noticed. "Hey, back here!" she called to the crew, standing on the railing. "Looking for pirates?"
She felt the wind between her fingers, willing them to become a whirlwind at her command. Hurricane-force winds made it hard for arrows to find their targets.
Of course, the railing wasn't where she intended to stay. There'd be nothing better than to land on the mast of the ship and attack from there. But, turning their attention away from the Weewoo was the most important thing for now.

Jenkins, apon seeing Ikkin, didn't waste time with orders, he took out his side pistol and shot at the pirate. She was just trying to cause a distraction he was sure. Then after shooting he issued his orders.
"James, and two others, about face and keep our new guest busy," he hadn't waited to see if his shot would hit, "everyone else, open fire, we're close enough." he said to the other riflemen. "Archers, keep firing at their sails." he ducked behind some cover as he said this, incase the strange eared pirate had any projectiles.
Meanwhile the mainsail was comming apart.
"Joan! You and your team cut away those ropes and throw them overboard." he shouted pointing to the acid ended whips that had formerly held the main sail up. "Mr. Cole, the archers know their job, get a team togeather and get the mainsail back togeather," he looked up at Coldweather who was once again waving signals at him, "we may be needing it soon." He looked over at the opposing force. "Parks, aim your gun at their rudder."
The gunner Parks and his partner wheeled their cannon around, it took a moment, but they had a half decent shot at the Weewoo's rudder. Another loud bang was added to the already deafening orchestra as the cannon ball sped away.
The archers in the mean time fired a new round of flaming hornets at the weewoo's sails.

Ikkin leapt into the air right as Jenkins' pistol went off, letting her high force winds loose at the same time. This had three effects - first, the bullet that was aimed for her went wide and didn't strike her at all, second, she landed on the mast like she wanted, and third, her winds whipped around as she jumped, pushing anything that wasn't tied down away from her. This included the still-acidic ropes, which swung to and fro as Joan's team tried to cut them away.
"Yeah, I'm just a distraction," she called down to the crew. "But, that doesn't mean you can take care of me that easily!" She did several things in quick succession after that. First, she lowered her windstorm, then jumped off the mast, creating fire as she kicked off of it hoping to set the mast ablaze. Then, she called the winds back around her as she landed on the deck, drawing her cutlass out to fight.

"Won't do us any good for sailing," said Cole to his selected crewmen, "But I can think of another good use for it. 3, 2, 1!" he and his team released the mainsail, still dabbled with acid here and there. The heavy fabric swirled down with surprising speed, right ontop of Ikkin. Sure, one or two of their own crew were caught beneath, but they were near the fringes, and they got out easily enough. By now the effects of the acid had deadened, and what remained of it was as harmless as water. James and company rushed forward to the lump in the cloth that was Ikkin, or maybe they were just barrels, nope, it was moving, it was the pirate. Their rifles were raised, aimed at what may or may not be Ikkin's head (it's really hard to tell when everything is beneath a giant blanket). "One move and you're dead." threatened James. He left out the usual 'wrong move' that usually goes with that sentence, because it was the right moves he was worried about.
"Cole, get that flame put out!" shouted Jenkins.
"Working on it sir!"
Meanwhile Joan and his crew had managed to take care of the ropes and returned to their stations, and not a moment to soon as a grapple fastened itself to the railings. They quickly severed the rope with their axes at the expense of the nice polished wood of the railings.
----
Keng yanked on her grapple's line to make sure it was secured, and was rewarded with a limp rope with no grapple on it's end. "Blast it!" she swore as she looked in dismay at the frayed fibers. This was no good. "Hunty! Grappels are gonna be hard to pull off, what are your orders?" she asked the Captain's apprentice. They needed an organized plan on the double, not a couple little ones with everyone doing their own thing. She then looked up at the blazing sails, well duh they had to be put out! She'd work on that in the meantime.
She rushed for the bucket she normally used for scrubbing the deck. There was still water in it, well, it was a start. She threw it at the first flame she came across. Well, it was a start. With a rope tied to the bucket's handel she tossed it over the side of the ship, the one opposite the fighting, and began hauling up another bucket of the life saving liquid.

" You ok Ikkin?" Cyborg yelled to the kitsune. "Hunty I think it be time to fight them." he added sounding anxious. " And I think Keng's at the end of her rope." he decreed. " Sorry Keng bad pun I know." he added.

Fenrix snarled. "Return fire." Eyes flashing with the adrenaline that pumped through her veins. The three cannons fired in a synchronized pattern, just like she planned. "Cyborg, aim your fire at their mast. Knock it over and they are stranded." She didn't bother with his snide comments, banter was for later, now was the time to rip their ship apart.
