"Oh, hi," I said as Morien sat beside me. "And hi to you, too," I said when Saoika took the other seat. "My names Kahrnii, and my sister is Cillinar. By the way, have you seen her? I didn't catch sight of her when I came in, and-"
I trailed off as I saw the other pages still in line being pushed to the side, a rather angry Cill emerging from the front of the line.
"Nevermind," I mumbled.

Morien laughed. "You two are related? ...Odd. I mean, you'd think you guys would be a little more similar, like my brothers and me, but I suppose not?"

Saioka sneezed, and paused eating for a moment. 'I've got 11 other siblings, all younger than me, and thankfully, all back at Daoenal.' She laughed, imagining the antics they were probably all getting into back at the fief without her there to watch them.

Morien smiled. "Big family, huh? You're not the only one ... 13 siblings somewhere around Tortall! We're not exactly the noblest of families, you see ... and doesn't it figure that the only girl gets to be th eonly knight? I do kind of wish I was working at a tavern with them, but ... I dunno even why I want to be a knight..."

I grimaced. "Thirteen? That's gotta be awful. I've only got to put up with Cill and the other two sets of twins-you know I don't have any siblings that aren't twins? And they've all got soul-bonds, wierder still. Though, thankfully, the bond only goes as far as the other twin. I don't think I'd be able to handle it if I had five others leaching into my mind. Cill's bad enough."

Saioka laughed. 'I can't imagine what it'd be like, having your sister in your mind all the time. The sibling closest to my age is only 11. It's weird enough having Shadow...' she trailed off. She was so stupid! She had as good as let it slip that her horse was always in her mind, that they had a bond, that they could speak to one another. She sighed, and continued, 'I have a soul-bond with my horse. I'm pretty sure it's wild magic, but I've never told anyone. If my dad ever found out, he'd kill me. He hates wild magic. I can speak to canids and cats too, besides horses... I've never really tried speaking to anything else.'

"You're soul-bonded with a horse? Wierd." I grinned. "Not as weird as my dad, though. He's bonded to a dragon!"

Saioka laughed slightly. 'A dragon? That's gotta be... strange.' She felt Shadow on her mind, asking why her moods were swooping about so. She told the horse it was nothing, to go back to sleep. He obliged.

I shrugged. "Yeah, well, there're lots of leftovers from the Immortals War hanging around where we live. My parents've always had a soft spot for young creatures. When they found a pair of dragon eggs in a cave, it didn't take a genious to know they were going to try an' save them. Only one egg hatched, though." I shrugged again. "Wierd, to be sure, but then again, most think it's wierd to see stormwings around here. I think it's amazing I haven't seen any here yet. Or spidrens-those just swarm around our home. We managed to form a treaty with the centuars around there last year, so I guess if there's any of 'em around here, a treaty's been reached."

'We've got a few spidrens around Fief Daonal. Got centaurs, too, but they're pretty peaceful, and we made a treaty with them pretty easily.' The bell rang; lunch was over. Saioka jumped up and said, 'Dang, gotta get to my magics class now! See you!'

"Yeah, see you," I called after her. Now, what was next? Oh, right. Fencing. At least Cill'd be in a better mood.
I hurried to my room to grab my two short swords, passing Cill on my way to class as she stormed off to get her long sword.

Saioka galloped at full speed to her room, whisked her magics materials off her bed where she had thrown them the other night, and ran off to magics. She didn't want to be late for this too!
