I have a problem of saying things than showing them in my stories. Does anyone have any advice on how I can improve this problem? Is there any exercises I can do to help me with my writing? I have some great ideas for plots and stories but my story weakens because of my weakness of not being able to show emotions, etc. Any reply would be great! Thank you!

What do you mean exactly? Do you mean that you can't show emotions well because you say them rather than show them or is that a separate problem from saying things rather than showing them?

I think I have a harder time showing emotions without saying them. I have them all in my head, but when I write it down it doesn't work.
You know what I mean or am I just rambling?

Oooh, like you think about writing it, and you yourself invisions it, but you don't know how to make others do that same when they read your story? If so (let's hope so..), then I've had the same problems!
Instead of writing a story, just think for a minute. Write a discriptive paragraph.
For instance, if you just thought of a beautiful scene in the forest, then you could start discpribing what you "see". It's good practice...

That's exactly what I'm talking about! I think I'll try the paragraph thing. Thanks for your help Adori. But my many problem is showing the emotions my characters feel. Any suggestions?

This is still the same person, I am just having log on issues If you're having logging issues, did you accept cookies? Anyway, I agree with Lapin. Get as much practice at despcription as you can and it gets easier to develop and describe emotions and other things. Description can be a very useful tool in anything...I'm addicted to it. Start describing anything you see. Figures of speech--similes, metaphors, personifications, etc.--can work wonders in description as well. Compare what it is that you're describing to somethig else. It can be very effective. |

It will ask you if you want to accept them or not. Most of the time, they are totally pointless, but you need them on the forum.
