OMG, OMG, I thought of one! This wasn't my original one, but here's a lame villain: All of the "bad guys" in the Powerpuff Girls, just about, and especially Mojo Jojo. ^^;; XD Talking about PPG "bad" guys... know who come to my mind? The Amoeba Boys! I <3 them. They're so cute ^_^ They just can't be considered villians, I don't think. XD Eh... mind little comments like this from non-members? ^^;; I don't like villains ususally, but I felt like participating

Wow, has this thread fallen through the cracks or what? Ah, well. I'll put in my two cents. I don't have a specific least favorite villain, although the Nebraska Family from Trigun is a truly cringeworthy competitor. I also hate the villains in Scooby Doo, which tend with a few exceptions to be two-dimensional and spectacularly gullible monologuers. (Pretty much any two-dimensional monologuer is a loser in my book.) Friagne (which sounds much better with the Japanese pronounciation than the English) from Shakugan no Shana is pretty cool, and they killed him off way too soon. Too bad- it's rare to find an interesting villain whose heart still beats for something. On the subject of interesting villains... I used to think Itachi Uchiha from the Naruto series was absolutely the coolest villain I'd ever come across, despite having a name that sounds suspiciously like a sneeze. (The following is in a spoiler tag for a VERY good reason- if you are a fan of Naruto and have not read the most recent Manga chapters, fear to click here.) Seriously, a villain who very deliberately leaves his kid brother alive despite having ruthlessly taken part in the slaughter of the rest of the clan? That practially screams that there's a very profound third dimension to his cold, solemn personality, and the reason for him sparing Sasuke has been the source of much speculation among fans, myself included. (I also found it interesting that he'd shown little interest in killing Leaf ninjas... hmm.) And he also instructed Sasuke to try to become strong enough to kill him... more speculation ensues.
So then, the battle takes place, vengeful Sasuke versus calm, serene Itachi. (I can't get over the supremely stupid name.) Sasuke questions Itachi. And Itachi finally consents to explain his motivations...
Only to reveal that taking Sasuke's (preferably Mangekyo) Sharingan eyes would save Itachi from blindness. This being the only reason he'd killed the clan and left Sasuke alive- so that Sasuke's hatred would drive him to obtain the Mangekyo for Itachi to steal.
*HEAD-DESK!* After all that speculation, all that time I spent thinking that Itachi was the most interesting antagonist ever invented, I find out he's nothing more than a souped-up thug. *Head-desk* And the sad part is, Masashi Kishimoto is an awesome storyteller who could have done SO much better. I have no idea why he didn't. *Head...* well, you get it. Now that Itachi has fallen from grace, I'd say my favorite villain is probably his battle partner, Kisame Hoshigaki. The reason isn't much of a spoiler, but for those who are still REALLY far behind in the series, I guess I'll tag that, too. On the surface, Kisame's your very average big, brutish, hack-and-slash barbarian. Perfectly happy to hack his target's limbs off, even if said target is a twelve-year-old kid. No wonder he doesn't often appear in popularity polls. And then you start to notice things like how he's always looking out for the much smaller Itachi. "Itachi, you shouldn't be careless with that jutsu- it's dangerous for you as well as your opponent." "Itachi! Don't use that jutsu twice in one day!" I also notice that he has no problem admitting that Itachi's stronger than he is, even though Itachi is twelve years younger than him (and, as I said, smaller). On the downside, Might Gai kicked him and he held a grudge about it for two and a half years. So I guess you could say he's a humble, cocky, respectful, sadistic, hyper, immature, brutish mother hen. No wonder I like him.

No wonder I like him. Regarding Kisame-- That is EXACTLY why I love Kenpachi Zaraki, from Bleach. XDDD I wouldn't call him a villain exactly, though. But it's adorable. You get this terrifyingly powerful, nearly invincible, bloodthirsty, psychopathic killer... who has zero sense of direction and cares most about the little pink-haired girl who rides around clinging to his shoulder. <3 My current favorite villain is from Bleach, though... I won't go into much detail here because his identity is so much of a spoiler and I don't feel like spoiler tags, but I'm just gonna say this: re-watching the Soul Society/Rescue Rukia arc is so much fun when you see it from the point of view of already knowing the end, because it's not until you see everything all over again that you realize just how brilliant this guy's plan was. It's so amazing. <333 I adore him.

I would wish to join. Lamest villain? I'd say... Hmmm... I'll get back to you. I was just about to say I wanted to join, until I saw this post. I seriously don't remember posting that at all, I swear. That doesn't even look like something I would type. On second thought... Never mind. I guess that's me. Remember; the number one rule to being a villain, just shoot the hero in the head. Don't have him strapped on a table and start monologuing for hours and not notice the fact that they're escaping. One bullet between the eyes and be done with him. Unless of course, he's Superman, in which case you should either use Kryptonite or just give up. Superman sucks anyways; too overpowered.

Being an actor, I often look at villains from the perspective of "If I were playing this part, how much fun would it be?" Of course, most of the time the villains are the most fun parts to play. I was Captain Hook once, and let me tell you--probably the best part I've ever had. Some of my favorite villains are the ones who always act so cultured and refined--but at the same time, they're bloodthirsty and, well, evil. Another good example of this is--though a lot of you probably haven't seen it--Gul Dukat, from Deep Space 9. I loved his character for a number of reasons. As I said, he had this great cultured, almost intellectual air about him...but despite that, and sometimes because of that, you could tell how truly evil he really was. For another thing, his personality meshed amazingly with Captain Sisko's. They were both these very powerful leaders with very declamatory ways of speaking.
On the other end of the spectrum, I also really liked Bellatrix Lestrange (from Harry Potter, though most of you probably know that). She was an amazing sadist--not just because she enjoyed killing, but because she really enjoyed killing, if that makes sense. In fact, I also liked how she came across in the movie--just the way she spoke sounded a bit hysterical and insane. Again, must have been a really fun part to play. Oh, and her name is awesome.

I love that list XDD
Sign me up, please! I LOVE villains. I often find they have a more developed personality than the heroes (especially in high fantasy). Besides, a lot of the time they're just plain cooler >_>
Lamest villain? I'll have to think about that.

I'd like to join. In my opinion the greatest Villain is Sylar ( Gabrial Grey) from HEROES. The lamest villains would be Team Rocket from Pokemon.

Oh me too! I haven't seen as much of DS9 as I would have liked, but I really do like what I've seen of Dukat. ...Cardassians are just cool anyway, though. XDDD I hated Bellatrix, but I did love her portrayal in the movie. In fact, come to think of it... she reminds me a LOT of my OC, Cenylixe... >_> Who is twisted, sadistic, and... actually could be worse than Bellatrix is, really... I hate her too, you know. XDDD Since this is a writers' forum, here is something to discuss: Writing villains. Is it easy? Hard? What sorts of villains do you prefer in your stories? Or do you leave villains out entirely, preferring your heroes to struggle against something internal or inhuman?
