I can't honestly think that she cares any more. XD I mean, she's a billionaire, and it's been months since the last book came out, so sales are already trickling out... there's basically nothing they can do to her. Which is why it's basically meaningless, in my opinion, but... eh. At least she finally said it? I don't know. Personally, I'm kind of ired by how she's handling it. From the looks of it, it's like she's decided now she's going to use this to try to promote some kind of idea/agenda ("Oh, the stories have always been about tolerance" and urging readers to question authority and all). My opinion is kind of...if it was pertinent (or to help promote tolerance more), she should've spoken about it in the book. I wouldn't have approved of the platforming, but at least it's not something that looks/appears like a retcon. And even if she didn't want to include it in the book, then she could've just left it with the fact he was gay without using that as a chance to soapbox on it. Exactly. That too. I'm finding it difficult to summon up the "OMG, JKR had a gay character!!1" enthusiasm I'm seeing so many places.

Did you realize it when you read the book? I'm thinking back and there were never really obvious clues. None of the gay stereotypes. And if there were, I just attributed them to Dubledore being crazy. Wait. Grindelwald. >_> "Best Friends" OMG! Well, that's another reason I don't like it--out of all the characters, Dumbledore was the most 'stereotypically gay'. And... yeah, people have been reading it and going "OMG, Grindelore! I've been 'shipping them for years!" but I didn't really see anything like that. *shrug* Then again, I read the book very quickly. Still. I didn't pick up on the Grindelore, either. I saw a close friendship (like Harry/Ron, or even in my own personal experience of me and John), without much of a hint of anything beyond that.

And for a long time he didn't have a history or a life outside hogwarts. I guess this goes with her whole "learn more about dumbledore" rant in the seventh book.

Yeah. If she had established the universe as one in which gay people are common, maybe I would've read their letters more carefully--it's possible the hints are just really, really subtle... (XD) but as it is, straight people are such the norm in her books that I wasn't reading for that at all.
