Hey, this one's not too retina-burning. I think it might be worth a gazillion or two, what you guys think? On a more serious note, I'm getting pretty nervous that Neopets is on its last legs. If that's the unfortunate truth and this is the beginning of the end, I want to ask everyone here something: Would there be any way to preserve the Neopian Times in the event that the site goes down permanently?I know Jellyneo has done great work preserving official aspects of the site, but I'm wondering if the same could be extended to things like the NT, Storytelling Contest, and so on and so forth. Legally, I know that Neopets technically owns any fan-submitted content to the site. But I still feel like preserving fan-content would be a bit more dicey in that regard. On the other hand, losing twenty years worth of fanfiction and fan comics would be an enormous loss. So that's why I wanted to run this by you guys and see what everyone thinks. Even if we'd have to limit such an archive to works whose creators have given their express permission, it would still be something to save even just that much.

Thought I'd join in too! My first one makes me think of "burning the coal you get for Christmas" xD However, I tried making 2 more and I think the second one is a little broken xD; I think it's sad because it knows it's broken and has contributed to the destruction of the environment xD;

That broken NFTopet speaks to me on profound levels.
Well worth the $154.49!

Even if we'd have to limit such an archive to works whose creators have given their express permission, it would still be something to save even just that much. Funnily enough, I've actually been working on archiving NT comics over the past year or so. I have a couple of flash drives I use to save comics by creator name, and I've been chipping away at it whenever I've had the free time. My original purpose for doing so was for my own nostalgia, as 2020 came around and made me realize that nothing is certain, and I wanted to preserve my favorite NT comics in the event that anything happened to the site. Of course, it spiraled from there and got me in a rabbit hole of documenting NT comic history, so I have more comics now than originally anticipated lol (plus all the holiday themed layouts I can find). Most of the comics I've collected are from retired members who I doubt are still attached to/even remember the stuff they submitted, but there are a few NT creators whose comics I've held off on archiving out of concern that they wouldn't want said comics to be kept. I don't know what the ethics may be on archiving NT entries in a more public manner, and if it's something that would benefit from creator permission or not. Even though my project has turned bigger than I originally expected, I've still never made plans to make it more public, as that's water I'm not sure how to tread. I'm curious others' thoughts on that, or if this project of mine was a bad idea from the start lol. As for other types of NT submissions and other creative contests, I haven't put much thought into those. I figured the comics were enough for me to chew anyway, and I'm too unfamiliar with other Neopets fan content to know where to start. Others may have better ideas on how to go about them, if preserving said content is deemed a good idea.

Even if we'd have to limit such an archive to works whose creators have given their express permission, it would still be something to save even just that much. This is an issue I've thought about for... a while, admittedly. I figured someone would archive everything eventually, and then thought "welp I know how to code and such, may as well be me." Given the existential threat Neo now faces from all this, my efforts have recently accelerated. I wrote a script and have as of tonight saved every Storytelling competition week (part and author), and have another script that is currently working its way through saving every Poetry Gallery. I'm very close to having a working NT archiver, too, and an archiver for the Caption Contest wouldn't be difficult. I'm not sure about Art Gallery or Beauty Contest though, because of my lack of familiarity with those spotlights. Thing is... yeah, ethics considerations. I did discuss this with Rabbit, and (I quote from her): Which is kind of where I feel we are in the right to mass archive. The NTWF is the de facto official fan site of the Creative Contests, and if/when Neo goes down permanently I envisaged the site could become like JN in terms of an archive, or perhaps we could even look at simply mirroring everything, e.g. on Patjade's site. (But maybe with an actual search tool and other conveniences. ) Anyway, I can see this becoming a potentially much larger issue, so maybe it should be on its own thread.
Also, fun fact, every single STC (compressed) can fit neatly onto 6 3.5" floppies.

Yeah, that "roadmap": 1 - vaccuum all the money from the pockets of the suckers. 2 - Allow users to add their own content? IDK. 3 - Flee with money. 4 - ??? Whatever. We don't care. Later suckers! Also, RIP NFTopets. You were honest about the permanence and intrinsic value of actual NFTs. </3 EDIT:
So apparently the original batch of those NFTopets were a test run and have been deleted, but I actually saved the image of mine, so it lives on as a fake, fake NFT!

This needs to be destroyed ASAP.
Because this is clearly a scam on it's face and an attempt to bilk as much money as possible.

WAIT WAIT WAIT "Metaverse"? "Ecosystem"? Collabs with stoner hedgehogs? floating_math_equations_lady.jpg Are... they trying to turn this whole NFT thing into something like a decentralized Flight Rising, but more crypto-ey? I totally called it, just saying.

Minted my free NFTopet too! I’ve been SO reluctant to cancel my Premium because I love having it, but I just can’t anymore. Will need to move some pets first, but come Monday after the blackout, that’ll be one of the first things I do. :/

A bit tangential, but I love the protest banner we have now. Not only do I agree with it, but it's also super cute! <3 #NoNeoNFTs

I think that the fact that the "NFT"s that we posted last night from Jellyneo are no longer visible is kinda hilarious, since another thing about NFTs is that if the service shuts down, the NFTs purchased vanish as well. (To go back to my Pokemon cards comparison, if The Pokemon Company announced tomorrow that they were discontinuing the TCG, the cards I already have in my collection won't go anywhere and I could still appreciate them for the decades to follow) Twillie , RielCZ : I'm glad that you guys have been on top of the matter, and have been thinking of it well before I have. I do also think this could warrant its own thread, so if anybody wants to talk about it further, perhaps the Times Lobby would be the best place? Yeah, that "roadmap": 1 - vaccuum all the money from the pockets of the suckers. 2 - Allow users to add their own content? IDK. 3 - Flee with money. 4 - Whatever. We don't care. Later suckers! Not sure if it was talked about here or not, but I remember seeing a headline a little while ago that somebody did exactly that: Take money from people buying NFTs and then immediately peace out afterwards.
