This sounds super cool! The cost of mailing a handful of overseas cards is going to prevent me from participating (as well as the Canadian postal strike business that Ian already mentioned), but when this happens, I hope to see some card collection photos from y'all! ;D

I kind of love this idea. And by "kind of" I mean "totally." And since I've rented a PO box for the next three months, I don't even have to worry about the "giving out your real life address" part. The PO box is because my parents are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary next week, and I'm doing a "card shower" for them, and don't want all the cards to come to the house, since I live with them and want it to be a surprise. I'm seriously excited. I think I'll get really close to, if not over 50 cards for them, which is cool, since it's their 50th anniversary. But... I digress. Back on topic.
Short answer: I'd love to participate. And my "default" cards will most likely be about the Christian celebration of Christmas, but I can get more than one type for those who don't want that, and I'm fine receiving any cards. I mean, I'm even fine with the cards that poke a bit of fun at the Biblical Christmas story, so long as it's not totally bashing it. I'm fully convinced God has a wicked sense of humor. (See what I did there?)

So once Thanksgiving is over, it's appropriate to go from 0 to Christmas in five seconds flat, right? *brick'd* yeah, this is me trying to pull decent deadlines out of a hat while hoping that they won't become too problematic with all these sliding factors to consider. Since people do seem to be Very Excite over this idea (yay!), I'm just sliding over into signup mode and updated the first post with the people who said that they're definitively in, because it would be a bit silly to ask everyone to re-confirm. If I misread your post or you've since changed your mind about joining, do poke me in the eyeball and I'll remove you from the list. Signups lock after one week, as in, you have that time to decide whether you want to bow out (in which case let me or Fraze know) or sign up for certain (in which case also let me or Fraze know). This means that the signup deadline is Sunday, December 2nd(give or take timezones, because honestly I just fire off posts whenever I can. Try not to cut it too close xD) (this also feels like a good spot to tag people who were interested but on the fence for various reasons: Gelquie Thorn Ian Wolf-Park Liou ) Since sharing addresses is about the only bottleneck and requirement for pulling off this event, I'll try to do that on an ongoing basis over the days following December 2nd. Meaning that if you already know that you're 100% in, feel free to send me your address already, I'll just hold on to it until the time comes to send them to the others. If I already have your address from some past interaction or other, re-send it anyway, because people move house and I've been around long enough that I can't be sure that I have anyone's actual current address :'D After the signup deadline passes, I'll poke everyone again to get all requisite addresses, send 'em off together with the preferences people have shared, and after that it's largely up to everyone's free time/financial means/artistic inspiration/post office access to start sending those cards, but I will still periodically send my people to threaten your kneecaps- I mean, gently and amiably prod y'all a few times to remind you to send those cards off. The actual sending times can vary a fair bit depending on how far a given card needs to travel so I'm content to leave it up to everyone's discretion, but we all know that deadlines make the world go round so I'll threaten those kneecaps- I mean, remind everyone to get it done around Sunday, December 9th, and do more urgent prodding around December 16 as the final call, might-want-to-get-that-done-now-or-they-might-get-stuck-in-the-system. Yays? Nays? Bananas?

This is a tentative 'I'm in!' I'll see how many people are involved (again, I need to do a lot of expensive gift sending this month), and confirm for certain within the week. But I have some super cute cards I found buried in my Christmas box, which I would be so excited to send to cool forum peeps if I do get involved!

I'll be editing the participant list on an ongoing basis throughout the week, so people whose participation depends on number of other participants (or any other volatile factors) can check it throughout the week and make the decision on the final day if need be. Which is also why I'm not pinpointing a specific hour; this is a card swap, not a thesis submission (perish the thought) so if there are last-last-minute wobblies, I think we can work with them =D (that, and converting timezones is a pain in the everything, so I just avoid it whenever possible.)

I'm going to have to sit out on this one, as even if the strike is resolved, there's still the backlog of undelivered mail, both domestic and international. Sorry, Huntress.

I return, after careful considerations and calculations! Is there still a bit of room for me?

Hey, so! Bet you weren't expecting a Frazepost. The signup deadline is tomorrow, or just barely today depending on your choice of time zones. That means this is the final bell to sign up if you've been holding off. And the opposite, too; if you need to drop out for any reason - that's fine, it happens, but please let us know! (Of course unforeseen circumstances can strike at any time. But if you've got foreseen circumstances preventing you from participating, then it's much nicer to everyone involved to drop out before everyone officially needs to start making their cards.) I find it strangely poetic that the day we close the signups (a wee bit delayed to account for all timezones and also my usual ongoing work-and-kid juggle) we get hit by the first proper snowstorm of the year. It looks all wonderful and postcard-y up until I need to go and dig out the car. Alright, looks like we're nicely set for the swap to proceed =D This is the point to send me your address if you haven't already - I'll just tag everyone again for convenience: Celestial Ginz ❤ Twillie Birdy Thundy @natthewriter Allison Thorn Liou If there are any preferences to secular/christmas-ness and/or foreign language-ness that you forgot to mention on the thread, feel free to send that too. Once I have all addresses, we'll send 'em off to all participants in turn and then it's pretty much up to you when you send those cards off. In our experience, a standard letter moves to and from the United States in a week and to and from the UK in about three days (so I'd guess maybe 4-5 days between the US and the UK?) but you know, holiday season and general hiccups of national postal systems.

I went out today to buy some cards, and I was impressed at how many pretty ones there were, so I bought a whole bunch of different ones! I'm super pumped, but it's gonna be a real struggle to decide whom to send which ahhhhh! XD

I have a ton of Christmas cards in my drawer, so unless I find something before I write and send these that I feel is absolutely, 100% you, I'll probably be using those up. Even though it means some of you might be getting duplicates. It just helps me cut down costs and avoid excess waste. They are lovely cards though. ^^
