Terra eyed Kozma as he raised his arms up shakily. He was cooperating, that was interesting; she hadn't wholly expected that.
Tiger, on the other hand, was a little less agreeable.
"Make us!" she challenged, not raising her hands and instead keeping a firm grip on her paintball gun as she lifted it to meet Terra's rifle.
Terra frantically tried to think of a witty retort.
"Uh, yeah, I'll make you!" she said. "I'll make you like a - uh, a thing that makes things - like a factory! Yeah, I - uh -"
She was interrupted in her stumbling attempt at a quip when she heard someone approach behind her; she glanced over and saw Icon accidentally whack a display as he waved.
"Heeeeeey all, ahaha, err, don't mind me," he began as he tried to slink his way across the aisle, "just grabbing a few buckets of paint, haha h'lo Tiger, hope your team's doing well, afternoon Kozma, and might I say that Sapphire is looking particularly lovely today, pleasure to see you Terra good to hear that Batman impression coming along oh hey whoop 'scuse me-" and darted toward the checkout counter with paint and a bag of stirrers under his arms.
"Icon," said Terra, caught off-guard by his appearance. "Uh, aheh, this isn't what it looks like, I'm just having a little fun here, haha -"
Then she looked at Tiger wildly, afraid that she'd totally ruined any pretense of menace that she'd put up.
"This can end one of two ways, Terra." She thought a moment. "Well, okay, more than two ways. But that's not important - you're asking yourself, did she reload the gun last night? Or did she not? Does red paint come out easily? Why does the store stock only one aisle of paint? ...Well, the question you should be asking is, do you feel lucky? Well, do you, punk?"
"Ahaha, well," said Terra, "I think it's a bit too late to worry about paint ruining my clothes with paint. They're waaaay beyond repair, and after a brief memorial and a nightlong candlelight vigil held with endless tears streaming down my face, I've come to terms with it. And as for the luck thing...eh, well, whenever Google asks that I seem to be wrong to have answered in the affirmative, so I'm gonna say not particularly. But that doesn't mean I can't SHOOT YOU!"
She aimed her gun at Tiger and fired.
And the paint-filled balloon hit the shelf next to Tiger's head, splattering blackness all over the aisle and causing several paint cans to come cascading down in the next aisle over.
Oops.

The paint-filled balloon hit the shelf next to Tiger's head, splattering Terrobble's black paint all over the aisle; including on Tiger and Kozma.
As the paint splattered on Kozma, he suddenly remembered a significantly important detail that he'd had forgotten for the entire event:
He was afraid of paint.
The shock caused him to flail about for a second; he was almost completely covered with black spots. Then, as he realized that there was nothing he could do about it, Kozma decided that it was time for action. He now knew that, unlike Fluffle's paintball gun that he was shot with earlier, Terra's gun didn't shoot paintballs; it flung paint-filled balloons - those didn't hurt as much.
Kozma tossed his toy kangaroo out of the aisle. "Don't look, Sapphire," he told her, "this may get UGLY!". Then he took two brushes out of his smock, quickly dipped them in a can of his sapphire-blue paint and then struck an impressive fighting pose while wielding the brushes as if they were daggers.
He then nodded at Tiger.
"IT'S ON, TERRA!" he shouted!

Draco walks through the paint covered battlefield, a little dazed and out of it. He wasn't sure if it was the fumes or he was just that out of it, but it seemed like he missed a lot of things the past two weeks. He knew what he was supposed to do, but at the same time wasn't. So instead he walked. He walked past paint flying around him from all sides.
"Where was I going again?"
That's when he slipped on a still wet slick of oil, and went sliding down a street...

Alright, back again with another huge post of everyone's creative challenges. :D Sorry for dragging my feet on posting these so long, guys. xD; But I'm super impressed at the quality of the challenges you guys are doing! CarQuie's Pizza, Pie, and Paint Emporium's continuing saga: Painting was super hard work, especially because somehow, Gelquie and Carrie had actually managed to scam garner legitimate clients all across town. They now woke up early and came home late, spattered in pink paint and their pockets full of scammed legitimately earned money. Which was nice, because money was awesome, but it also meant the ‘Pizza and Pie’ part of their business was getting a bit neglected. The ingredients were a little erm, more suspect, than usual as of late. More expired. Moldier. Pinker.
But it was ok. It was fine. Because if they were making oodles of money from painting, who cared about the pies and pizzas? If the quality of their baked goods took a nosedive, so what? Who would care? It wasn’t like they were known for their stellar quality anyway…
It was late in the evening, just a few hours before the food emporium closed for the night; after painting many nice buildings during the day, both Carrie and Gelquie were now in the kitchen, picking paint flecks and maggots out of some cheese. Then, all of a sudden, they heard the door leading into the pizzeria open.
“Go take their order,” Gelquie instructed. “I’ll finish de-maggoting this cheese.”
“Sure thing,” said Carrie, stepping out of the kitchen and into the front of the restaurant. “Welcome!” she called as she glimpsed at the new arrival…
… and then, as she realized who it was, her heart dropped into her stomach. Because it wasn’t just an ordinary customer. No. It was the food inspector, Stalos. Oh. SNAP.
“Ummm! Mister Stalos!” she called pleasantly… and loudly, so that Gelquie could hear her from the back. “What brings you in today!”
“Surprise inspection,” he said, and then added darkly, “One more fail and you guys get shut down.”
“But we’ve improved SO MUCH!” Carrie squeaked nervously. “I’ll um… show you around! Let’s start with the uh… tables!” She was stalling so that Gelquie had time to hide the suspect ingredients in the back.
“The tables look fine,” Stal said. “I would like to see the kitchen.”
“Oooh, but what about the walls? You must inspect those first!”
“They are fine, as well. Kitchen, please.”
“But the floors! We just MOPPED them! Examine those floors, Inspector!”
Stal just rolled his eyes and shouldered past Carrie as he made his way towards the kitchen. Carrie attempted to grab onto his arm to physically stop him, but he shrugged out of her grip, and into the kitchen he went… whereupon he found Gelquie, her arms loaded with moldy dough, maggoty cheese, and paint-spattered, rotten apples.
“STAL!” she shrieked. “SO PLEASANT A SURPRISE!”
“…. This kitchen is horrendous,” he gasped, looking around. “Even worse than last time. You guys… fail!”
“Noooo!” Gelquie yelled. “No! We pass! We um! Um! Carrie, help me out!”
“Uhhh!” Carrie, who had rushed into the kitchen behind Stal, screamed. “Uhhh! We are um! Renovating!”
“No you’re not. You’re just unsanitary.”
“Unsanitary? No! Not us! We um…” Carrie darted her eyes frantically about the kitchen. She didn’t quite know what she was looking for, not until she saw it anyway: the paint splattered envelope on the back counter. The one that held her and Gelquie’s earnings for the day. Inside it was several thousand dollars.
Gelquie’s eyes followed Carrie’s gaze and also settled on the envelope. Gelquie frowned and gulped, and mouthed to Carrie: Should we?
Carrie nodded.
“Mister Inspector,” Gelquie said. “You’re right. We’re so unsanitary. And you know what? It sucks, your job. No one gives you respect. No one. And I bet the pay is terrible. TERRIBLE!”
“It is,” Stal agreed miserably.
“So I um, have a proposal,” Gelquie continued on. She dropped the armload of tainted ingredients and picked up the envelope, withdrew from it the mound of crisp bills. “How about you take this, just as a… present. From us.”
“A present?” Stal asked. He hesitantly took the money and started counting it; his eyes went wide as he realized how much he’d been given.
“Yeah. And I mean, if you still must shut us down anyway… I… I understand.” She sniffled.
“Oh I… I… I mean it’s not that bad,” Stal said, counting the money again. “I mean, the mold is really uh, minimal. And the paint in food isn’t much different than food coloring, eh? You two uh… have a nice night… a nice, nice night…”
He wandered out.
And the Pizza, Pie, & Paint Emporium lived to bake and paint another day! Terrobble Paint Jobs presents The Adventures of Myrtle Winterbottom and Her Dear Friend, Bedelia Von Buchwald: Part I: Myrtle Winterbottom was having a perfectly normal morning. She had woken at dawn, just as she always did, and she had made herself a breakfast of waffles and eggs, which she had eaten while reading the Neopian Times. (Oh, how she missed her younger days traveling in Neopia!) This was a morning just like any other Monday morning, until -
When she stepped outside to water her flowers, she found that her house, formerly a light green, had been painted a garish shade of red.
"Oh, dear!" she said, dropping her watering can.
Immediately, she hurried back inside to pick up her purse, neaten up her hair, and rush out the door to the Catacombs Café, where she always met her friends on Sunday afternoons. True, it was a Monday morning, and not Sunday at all, but perhaps she would have the good fortune to run into one of her friends, regardless!
And indeed, when she walked through the door, she saw her dear friend Bedelia von Buchwald sitting at a table, sipping a mug of black coffee with an exceedingly disgruntled look on her face.
Myrtle sat down at the opposite side of the table and told Bedelia what had happened.
"Ah, yes," said Bedelia. "When I woke up I discovered a very similar thing had happened to my house. When I stepped outside to walk my parrot, I found that the entire house had been painted the most grotesque shade of black!"
"Oh, how awful," said Myrtle, shaking her head sympathetically. "Was it a shade of black that's slightly faded, to the point that it looks almost gray, but not quite? I hate that shade of black."
"Oh, no," said Bedelia. "To the contrary, it was exceedingly black, blacker than anything I've seen. It felt like I was peering into a black hole, or into the soul of the worst type of criminal."
"Ah, well, that's not so bad, then," said Myrtle. "The blackest of blacks is quite chic these days, you know."
"Not on a house," said Bedelia indignantly. "Not to mention that this was a terrible paint job! The worst I've ever seen, dripping paint dried all over the house -"
Myrtle gasped.
"That's unspeakably horrible," she said. "If someone's going to sneak around painting houses in the middle of the night without permission, they ought to at least do a good job of it!"
"Well, then, what are we going to do about it?" said Bedelia.
"First we have to figure out who it is," said Myrtle. "Who could even be capable of such a feat?"
"I bet it was one of those mages," said Bedelia, "messing with some new spell or something. I never trusted them, not as long as I've lived."
"Excuse me, my great-grandmother was a mage!" said Myrtle, affronted. "May her soul rest in peace," she added.
"Very well, but you have to admit they have caused some havoc at times," said Bedelia.
"That's true," said Myrtle thoughtfully. "Perhaps we ought to go to Mage Manor and ask them if they know anything directly."
"But what if they blast us with a curse as soon as we open the front door?" said Bedelia. "You never know with those mages."
"Don't you worry, I'll bring something to protect us," said Myrtle. Then a thought struck her and she brightened considerably.
"I can bring my therapy gun!" she said.
"Your therapy gun?" said Bedelia dubiously. "Are you sure that's not a little -"
"Oh, certainly not," said Myrtle. "My therapist has assured me that when I shoot anything with this therapy gun, it will be terrifically therapeutic!"
"You don't even know what I was going to say -"
"Then it's decided!" said Myrtle. "Ooh, I hope I get the chance to try it out! Let us go, dear friend!"
And with that, Myrtle dragged Bedelia out of the café, and they headed off to Mage Manor (with a stop along the way at Myrtle's house to pick up the gun, of course).
To be continued... More from Amberworks: “I’m still not completely convinced,” you tell them once you return back to Amberworks HQ.
“How can I tell you’re not just some swindlers with a gold-orange-brown tongue trying to smooth-talk me into paying for some paint mixed with bug repellant? The mayor’s got that contest, thing, too; this could all be a load of lies fabricated to win yourselves a fake wad of cash and some notability! I’m not buying it yet.”
“Yeah, I can rather understand that sentiment,” Icon replies. I know a fair amount of people are trying to swindle good forumers out of their hard-earned shinies just for a go at some civic recognition. It’s a shame, it really is.” He slumps a bit in his chair.
Lizica looks across the room. “Tell you what,” she says, “why not watch us out in the field? We’ve got a client who wanted us to paint today, down by the Gates. Come on down, we can show you all of our process. “
You remain nonplussed, but decide to take them up on their offer. Worst case scenario, at least it will be entertaining.
[Some time later…]
“So let me ask again; the whole housepainting thing happened to coincide with the bug hunting—”
“Paleogenetics,” Lizica cuts in.
“Paleogenetics, yes; and you two are saying that it just happened by complete chance?”
“I know, it’s crazy!” Icon calls from his scooter.
Lizica’s on a scooter as well, the two of them have some trailers which contain fancy equipment and painting supplies stacked haphazardly. You attempt to keep up alongside them, a pretty impressive feat on your hunk of scrap metal otherwise known as a bicycle. The Gates really aren’t too far from their office, but with all that equipment the two of them probably can’t walk there unless they want to collapse in a heap of brushes and petri dishes.
You try a bit more small talk: “Do you two focus more on either? Which of you places more work in which part?”
“Weeee-eeee-eell, we generally try to keep work equal,” Lizica begins. “We swap doing field work and research, can’t stay in a lab all day. We both want to be strong in both fields.”
Icon puts on his amber-colored safety shades, glinting gold in the sunlight.
“You could say we’re… Amber-dextrous.”
He swaps a high-five with Lizica as you forcibly shove your forehead into your palm. Followed by some awesome game art from Lizica and Icon: And this one I'm sure all of you guys will love, whipped up by Icon: And lastly from Amberworks, another spin on the short story:
Finally, a short story contribution from Two Blue-Hued Kangaroos: The little bell hanging above the door rang cheerily announcing the arrival of a customer to the paint supplies store. “Hello,” the store clerk greeted.
There was no answer.
“Hello?” repeated the clerk, wondering why he had not gotten a reply. He stopped stocking the shelves and looked over towards the entrance. He didn’t see anyone; all he saw was a plush kangaroo. The toy was sitting up on the store counter seemingly waiting for something.
“What is this?” said the confused clerk as he went up to the counter. “Hello? Is anyone here? You left a stuffed kangaroo here!”
Just then, he noticed a piece of paper tucked in the kangaroo’s arms. There seemed to be something written on it. Curious, he took it out and read it:
“Sapphire-blue paint, please,” said the note.
The clerk sat there confused for a few seconds; then it came to him that this toy must belong to that blue-hued kangaroo that recently purchased a lot of sapphire-blue paint from him.
“Oh; hello Kozma,” said the clerk looking up and expecting to find him. There was no one else in the store. He looked back down and noticed another note in the kangaroo’s arms.
“He’s not here; sapphire-blue paint, please,” it read.
The bewildered clerk stared at the note for a minute. “Is this some kind of joke?” he asked. He looked around to try and find who else was in the store. As he looked back at the toy he noticed another note.
It read: “This is not a joke; I need sapphire-blue paint. I’m too small to get it from the shelves myself.” The clerk looked over the counter trying to find who was there. He found no one. As he turned back to the kangaroo he saw another note.
“Please get me some paint. :’(”
Not knowing what else to do, the clerk got out two cans of the sapphire-blue paint that Kozma usually bought. As he placed them on the counter next to the kangaroo he noticed that the kangaroo now had some money in her arms; enough to cover the price of the paint. There was also another note.
“Thank you, keep the change. :)”
The clerk could not believe that he was engaging in a transaction with a toy. He kept his eye on the plush kangaroo as he took the money from her arms and deposited it in the cash register. The kangaroo did nothing and said nothing.
The clerk stared at the toy for several minutes when the little bell announced the arrival of another customer. “Good morning, Vern,” he greeted cheerily. “How’s it going today? Ah, what are you doing?” The customer was not sure what to make of what he saw: Vern was staring at a toy kangaroo on the counter; by her side were two buckets of paint.
“I believe I’m being pranked, Mike,” replied Vern keeping his gaze on the kangaroo. “This toy kangaroo seems to be buying paint from me.”
“Ah, ok,” Mike replied back. “I’m not sure what you mean by that.”
“This kangaroo just appeared in my store and asked me for some paint.”
“You mean the kangaroo talked?”
“No, it didn’t talk! It kept giving me these little notes to me! Then when I gave it the paint it gave me some money.”
“Are you feeling alright, Vern?”
“I’m quite alright, thank you! I’m pretty certain there’s some elaborate prank going on here but I just can’t figure out how.”
With that statement, Vern took his gaze off of the toy to look Mike in the eye. It was only for a second but when he turned back to the kangaroo, he saw a new note in its arms.
“Did you see that?” he exclaimed. “It’s got another note here!” He took the note and read it:
“Can you let me go now, please?” it read.
Mike, equally confused as Vern, poked the plush kangaroo. It did nothing and said nothing. “Maybe we should let it go, then?” he stated.
“NO! I’m going to find out what’s going on here!”
While Vern continued to stare at the toy, Mike looked around the store to see if anyone else was here – there wasn’t. Then, he examined the kangaroo. There didn’t seem to be anything wrong with it; it was just an ordinary stuffed animal.
Both men stared at the animal for another several minutes. Well, Mike got tired of this and decided that he didn’t want to waste any more time on whatever was happening here.
“Why don’t we let it go?”
“I said ‘NO’!” barked Vern.
Well Mike, now a bit irritated about Vern’s stubbornness, decided to distract Vern to see if that would get this whole ordeal ended. He went into the back room and made a significant amount of noise back there. “What are you doing?” Vern yelled, turning away from the kangaroo and towards Mike. When he turned back towards the counter the kangaroo and the paint were gone.
Mike never heard Vern scream like that before.
***
“You get the paint, Sapphire?” Kozma asked his toy kangaroo. “It took you quite a while.
Sapphire said nothing.
“What do you mean the store clerk was not letting you leave the store?”
Sapphire said nothing again.
“Maybe I shouldn’t let you buy anymore paint; you seem to cause trouble wherever you go. Anyway, give me those two buckets.” Kozma took the paint from Sapphire. She said nothing. That should be it! If I missed anything, let me know. XD Good job, guys! (And don't forget to check out the trivia I posted earlier if you haven't yet.)

"SON OF A POACHER!" Tiger shouted as black paint sprayed across her, Kozma, and the aisle behind them. She shook herself like a wet dog, but paint was a too heavy to fling around quite as unceremoniously.
This was an outrage - firing in the paint supply store! It was the equivalent of attacking the watering hole! Unsportsmanlike! Unfair! Tiger hadn't actually planned on shooting Terra - and even if perhaps maybe she had been , paintballs weren't gonna destroy the entire store!
Kozma seemed to share some of her feelings - he warned his kangaroo to stay out of the way and whipped out two paintbrushes. Tiger gave him a sharp-toothed grin; the warrior had finally found his claws, eh? Kangaroos were known for being pretty vicious. It was probably why tigers lived in Asia.
"LET'S GET HER!" Tiger fired a few shots in Terra's direction before ducking down behind the next aisle - the paint Terra had knocked over with her insane, reckless paint-balloon shooting was a putrid shade of green. At least it's not a color anyone was using, Tiger thought idly as she checked her gun. Her tail puffed - she'd completely forgotten - she'd come to the paint store ibecause she was almost out of paint!
Tiger searched the shelves desperately for any shade of red, but alas, only green and orange paint were stocked in this aisle. The red, black, blue, teal, pink, and prehistoric-themed paint aisle had to be a warzone by now...Tiger clenched her jaw. There was nothing for it. Time to follow up on her action hero speech with some action hero...er, action. She braced herself, and bolted down the aisle, stretching her hand out for a can of Down for Maintenance Red...She caught the handle, but her back paw slid on the black paint from Terra's bomb and she hit the ground with an "Ooof!"
Well - this just gets better and better!

Times Lobby Newsstand: While painting the newsstand, you ask the owner for any inside information they may have picked up. Leaning in close, she tells you of a hidden powerup she stumbled upon the other day! They currently have 15 buildings painted.
- Oh, the Hue-manity! Inc. did not have enough supplies to paint a building. They currently have 15 buildings painted.
Everything went topsy-turvy this round. How will it all end tomorrow!?

Round Twenty-One Summary - Terrobble Paint Jobs painted The White Weewoo (D6), painting over Amberworks' hard work. This tile is a landmark! The White Weewoo: While the pirates may not have been happy that you painted over their white-hulled ship with your vivid color, they can't deny your take-charge attitude and decide to help you out by pilfering another landmark for your benefit. A randomly selected landmark is repainted in your color, with the bonus to go with it. This landmark is the Ninja Dojo (E4), painting over Err Behr's hard work. They currently have 18 buildings painted.
- Amberworks painted Scrac's house (D7), painting over Terrobble Paint Jobs' hard work. They currently have 17 buildings painted.
- Err Behr painted Reviews and Clues Theater (E3), painting over Amberworks' hard work. They currently have 14 buildings painted.
- Two Blue-Hued Kangaroos painted the Brain Bleach Factory (C5), painting over Err Behr's hard work. This tile is a landmark! The Brain Bleach Factory: While you were painting the factory, you inadvertently set off a chain reaction causing the factory to explode! Brain bleach coats the four adjacent buildings, turning them white. They currently have 16 buildings painted.
- Oh, the Hue-manity! Inc. did not have enough supplies to paint a building. They currently have 14 buildings painted.
- CarQuie's Pizza, Pie, and Paint Emporium painted Nut's house (D9), painting over Amberworks' hard work. They currently have 17 buildings painted.
And we have our winner: Terrobble Paint Jobs reigns supreme, meaning everyone's houses will attract quite a lot of heat in the summer months with their dark black paint. XD Congratulations to Terra for her success, and I'm sure the mayor will be relieved to put all of this behind him...until the next time things need repainting, I suppose. Lastly, thanks to each and every one of you for making this game a success! You guys had a huge output of creative work and activity around the forum and I hope you guys had as much fun playing the game as I did hosting it. :) And I hope you keep it up even after the game's over!

Ahh, so close! And darn you, Blue Hues, for exploding that factory: Gelquie and I wanted to do it. If we couldn't win, we figured we ought to take down everyone with us. ; That was super fun, we should it again next year! Also, for anyone who is SO SAD over their loss, or celebrating their win, GLQ and I are having the most wonderful sale at our shop. <3 With 50% fewer maggots!

Congrats, Terrobble! ^^ Black is the new white!
Thanks for putting this all together, Dan! This was a lot of fun. xP
Also, your sale sounds fantastic, CarQuie! That giant Weewoo in the back of Amberworks has been hungry for something besides mosquitoes, but we've been so busy running around that we haven't found him anything. Maybe we could order something with 50% more maggots for the Weewoo?
