First of all, I don't like mod interference. I've yet too see much good come of a mod getting involved in something, it usually just increases tension and distrust and never solves the problem. I'm not saying the mods don't try- Zylaa in particular goes above and beyond the call of duty to try and help.
I am not in favor of splitting the Taco into different boards, but many people seem to be. These people are the ones who would like a place to go when there is action on the main board, somewhere that is safe from the action. Since they want an impenetrable, invincible, and sound-proof coffee shop side board to go to, I see no reason to say they can't have it.
On the 'Truce': I agreed to the truce on the condition that more villains would show up. Even though that didn't happen, I didn't have much of a problem with it. I took no issue with the word truce, I knew it wasn't quite the right word but I didn't care. I didn't really like Omni getting technical with it, but it should be pointed out that Omni wouldn't have had to if the truce had not been forced upon her. She was there when we discussed the truce. She refused to agree to it. Yet certain individuals still tried to force it down her throat and would often get many more individuals on the board to gang up on her for not conforming. This is called bullying, and there is too much of it on the Taco.
I don't think it's going to work.
Where am I going with this? I'm not actually sure. ._.
I guess my main issue is all this passive-aggressiveness going on. People complaining about things and then not doing anything about it. Resenting people for no good reason. Just sitting there and getting bitter and making subtle little jabs at things when that isn't going to solve anything at all and really, it's just childish. I've seen complaints when the Taco's dead; I've seen complaints when it's active. Several pages of OOC discussion and silly antics without any characters I can understand, but not when people are actually RPing. I get that people feel uncomfortable just jumping in when there's already things going on, but really, what have you got to lose? The people doing the RPing aren't exactly going to berate you for just popping in and greeting everyone and rolling a character of your own. Who knows, maybe it'll drag out other people who've been in hiding because they were reluctant to post while this other RP was going on. I know it's easier said than done, but it's better than just sitting there and getting annoyed for no reason. :B
Not sure how much I've actually contributed to the subject since I'm pretty certain I was just rambling, but those are my opinions.
This. All of this. <3
I created the VS. board so street fights would have somewhere to go and people could continue on normally in the main Taco.
This isn't really something that's up for debate, but a point of moderation that we've had to step in a couple of times to remind people of. It's a matter of keeping boards on the topic they're meant for, in other words. When you notice you're writing textwalls of debate for whatever reason, that's a signifier that it probably needs to be transferred to one of the other locations I mentioned.
Wrong.
This change was never agreed on and I will not obey it.
Again, not trying to be condescending or anything, I just want to see if there have been past examples and how well they have gone over. I know it's sort of an obvious thing to ask, but I just wonder if people are getting too caught up in avoiding conflict and being afraid to offend someone that something as simple as just asking is being overlooked as a solution.
What I don't mean is 1) demanding that a RP be taken elsewhere, as that causes more conflict, as well as being backseat modding, or 2) becoming passive-aggressive to declare your frustrations subtly, which can be unclear and cause more friction.
But keeping calm and requesting that someone take it elsewhere because it's making you uncomfortable, or becoming too overbearing for the main thread, or any other reasonable justification for the request... I think that would go over well. Often people are just unaware of what is bothering other people, especially online when we're not privy to other people's body language. You guys are all friendly; I don't believe that any one of you would deliberately carry on with something if you knew it was making other people upset.
Again, such a request would be just that: you are asking someone to move it elsewhere, and they would not be required to comply if they believed it fit reasonably within the Taco's realm to carry on there. But I don't think that this sort of disagreement would crop up that much, and as long as both sides remain calm it would be much easier to avoid the sort of anger that flared up in the past.
So has this tactic been used before? If so, have people been generally receptive to it? And if not, perhaps it would be a useful and easy method to keep things running smoothly.
Candy has PM'd me on occasion to ask if I'd move something to another board. I've always obliged. I sometimes forget to move if no one outside of the action is on the board.
I'll piggyback on this with an idea that just occurred to me. Something that can be helpful for this that isn't really taken advantage of on the forum is the ability to split threads. So if you guys realize mid-fight that it should be its own thread and want all of the related posts to go with it to the new thread, drop us mods a PM with the request, what you want the thread to be named, etc. We can pick and choose individual posts you want and send them wherever, so this could be a solution to splitting things off but wanting the arc to remain intact.
I recently heard about this power, and frankly that would be amazing.
Okay you guys. This is the sort of thing that definitely belongs here and not on the main thread.
All I can say is… seriously? Are you seriously going to try and say that?
This is not like the segregation by race, you guys. Nor by socioeconomic status.
We are in no way trying to kick people out or say "You can't come here because you are XYZ". Alright? That's not it at all.
As many of us have said before time and again, there are just two very different groups at play here. One groups wants to be able to rough-and-tumble, Let's Get Dangerous, more on the rowdy and maybe somewhat violent side of things. The ability to cause explosions and stab people and dramatic sorts of events that cause a lot of damage. The other group wants the opposite; wants to be able to walk in and stay In Character and have their characters be safe.
Don't both groups deserve a chance to use the board? Yes, yes, we've had our disagreements in the past. Most of the time I really don't like writing unplanned trips to the hospital or reactions to the town blowing up and stuff like that. It really makes me cross. If I have to participate in an environment where that sort of thing happens often… I just won't participate. I'm not the only one like this, as you have seen.
But on the other hand, others don't like having to reign in their characters. Maybe they can't do that and stay In Character. I'm sure they would like a place where they can have fun, too.
Are we saying "You can't come in here if you are XYZ"? No. Not in the slightest. We're saying "Please respect our RPing preferences". And it goes both ways.
I can also say that I don't think that it will be completely exclusive. I thought on it earlier and realized I might be able to use a "PK-server" Taco thread to give people like Eoleo and Jason some more action, even if many of my other characters are better suited to a safer environment. There are at least two other people who have said they would also probably participate in both.
Well, since you're going to quote that, you should really quote everything else too.
Yeah, people really lightened up a little, especially after the first page or two.
If I understand your formatting correctly, I know what you mean.
You are.
flying magic potatoes or whatever made me giggle.
"How are you holding up? BECAUSE I'M A POTATO!"
Well, if you want to say something, you should probably do so soon. We're already getting comments that this sort of stuff should be on that thread instead of here.
I'm going to finish reading before I comment. You're getting little reactions that I likely wasn't going to include in my post. Like when someone reads a book and makes comments as they go along, then heads to the rant board when they've finished to scream "HOW COULD THEY MAKE THE STORY END LIKE THAT?"
You've contradicted yourself.
"If I have to participate in an environment where that sort of thing happens often… I just won't participate"
"Taco thread to give people like Eoleo and Jason some more action"
I feel safe in saying the first statement is true.
If you want a safe board, go make one. I am tired of catering to the non-fighters. The Arena was created. The VS. thread was created.
I accepted your "Peaceful Day" even though I didn't like or agree to it. I wanted to keep peace between writers. Now it's your turn. There is nothing more to be done on the side of the Battlers. It's your time and your turn to DO something.

One month. I request that we give getting along a try for at least one month. (We're at the end of a month anyway, so the timing's pretty good for this.) No, maybe it won't work, but we won't be able to tell for certain until we give it a try. Please, let's not automatically assume that it won't. Let's give it a chance. Let's find out for ourselves.
I don't think it's going to work.
Haven't really said anything on the subject because I have no idea what to say or suggest, and... I still have no idea what to say or suggest. I've never really had a problem with the RPed fights, having taken part in quite a lot of them in the past (unsurprising considering the majority of my characters are robots built for combat), but I can respect the wishes of others to not have to see them in the main Taco. Although I will admit part of the reason I sort of drifted over to the Megaman Tumblr RP I'm in at the moment is because there are much fewer restrictions. If I want my guys to get into fights, then... they can. They've lost limbs, eyes, even been killed off completely in the past, because... I don't know, I just find that sort of thing thrilling to write. But I can't do that in the main Taco because it'd just make people uncomfortable, and I can completely understand that.

Also a reminder of something that has been stated not to be debatable:Extended discussions or general chat, going on for more than just a few posts, do not belong on the Taco chat threads, just from a purely organizational standpoint. Again, this does not mean a few back-and-forth posts about how your day's gone, or some funny picture you found, etc. I am referring to long discussions about a specific subject, such as today's talk about copyrights and fair use. That is something that far better fits on Discussions & Debates, or PM. If it's more of a general chat topic that still is lasting longer than a few posts, then it probably belongs on the Bloids. I know there is this seeming divide between the Taco and the Bloids, but every Tacoer is welcome with open arms on the Bloids, regardless of what you may feel currently.

Well, I have a somewhat relevant question that could address where some of the problem is coming from. And this isn't to make a point; I am legitimately asking if this has been done before: Has anyone asked politely for someone to move their current RPing elsewhere if it's becoming too big/problematic for the main Taco?
Again, not trying to be condescending or anything, I just want to see if there have been past examples and how well they have gone over. I know it's sort of an obvious thing to ask, but I just wonder if people are getting too caught up in avoiding conflict and being afraid to offend someone that something as simple as just asking is being overlooked as a solution.

Things sometimes start out hammy and grow out of hand--being aware enough of that to move it (even if it's only a few pages from finishing)..
