Ubisoft decides not to use female assassins because it would take too much time/money: "You feminazis should leave a creator's vision alone!!"
Ubisoft decides not to include a few shaders in Watch Dogs because it could mess with visual performance: "Why didn't you guys spend the 8 months after releasing the game to continue working on it to include these shaders?!?! I don't care that it's not how the devs wanted the game to look!!!"
SO. MUCH. HATE.

Ugh, so this past week's been pretty terrible regarding misogyny in the games industry. First, Zoe Quinn being accused of sleeping with a games journalist for good reviews on her game. (Note that all the garbage gets directed at HER, and not the journalist who supposedly wrote this bribed review) And then Anita Sarkeesian has to leave her house because of someone sending death threats to her and her family, because of her Tropes vs Women in Video Games series and getting a signal boost from people like Joss Whedon. It's just maddening, infuriating. Frustrating beyond belief.
Can't link most of the stuff about it, either, because of the language involved. The IdleThumbs podcast had a really good discussion this week (and really long, too. Like more than half their show), but no links cuz language. Just. Eghughnagh... I'd use some foul words myself.

I actually had a really good example of this over the weekend. I was working a booth at Rose City Comic Con for a prop making company -- and we were selling Combustible Lemons.
And I had 7 or 8 guys (I didn't start keeping track until it happened 2 - 3 times) feel the need to pick one up and explain to me what it was, and where it had come from, and why it was brilliant.
I was the one working the booth.
I helped design the props.
I did most of the marketing and market testing for the prop.
I was the one explaining what they were made out of, and the various components of the prop.
And yet these dudebros felt the need to show off how special and knowledgeable they were about Portal 2 to me; because I was a female wearing a skirt and a corset, and therefor clearly had no idea what this thing I was selling was.

thecolbertreport.cc.com/videos/ladjef/gamergatethecolbertreport.cc.com/videos/wr7hqq/gamergate---anita-sarkeesianWelp, it's happened. This whole Gamergate debacle has made its way to the opening topic on the Colbert Report. And Colbert even talked with Anita Sarkeesian! While I'm glad that the general message was calling BS on the whole "ethics in games journalism" thing and showing that no, it's really just about harassing women... I'm still pretty ticked at this whole movement for setting the public perception of gamers back by twenty years. Thanks a lot, guys. But also, good on you, Colbert. Maybe shining a spotlight on this grimy corner of the games industry might help disinfect it.
