Wow. The debate is pretty horrifying, what with the supporters of the bill shutting up the reasonable people.
Oh, and they seriously used the word "nerd" as an insult.

If the forum goes down because of this, I will personally travel the world until I find you!
PS From the rumors I have heard I almost want to completely take over the country and set a new, absolute law: NO OPPRESSION WHATSOEVER OR GET TURNED INTO A SIAMESE CAT!

So the vote has been delayed indefinitely until an unknown date in 2012, which is an election year.
Yeah, I think this crap is gonna burrrrrrrn.
Unfortunately, all the stress has driven me to near insanity.

See, the problem with Congress is that they don't feel that the American public watches them - and this is true. Whatever insane laws Congress makes are always blamed on the current President; Congress knows that they can eat away at the Constitution and our rights as citizens because they won't get the blame. If the president has the chance to veto, and doesn't then yeah, he does get some of the blame....but still, we do need to watch congress more. Now I understand why our forefathers didn't want big government! They must be rolling and turning like crazy in their graves!

And everyone hates this so much they will probably recall the congressmen who set this up, meaning it just - poof! - vanishes.

Especially with the NDA bill passed with almost no major news. This is definitely getting buried, though. And buried quietly, it seems.

I might be misinterpreting "recall".

I meant some of those congressmen would not be re-elected. I might be misinterpreting "recall". Recall is when a special election is held that literally removes a person from office before their term is up and puts someone else in there. It happened in California several years ago. Wisconsin and Minnesota were dealing with those elections this year, too. It needs a lot of public uproar and support to get someone recalled. So yeah, recall is VERY different than re-election. And honestly, SOPA is relatively unknown to the public at large. It could've been passed and almost no major news coverage would've happened.

Now I understand why our forefathers didn't want big government! They must be rolling and turning like crazy in their graves! Yeah, you'd think we citizens would have the right to at least know what's going on before they try to slip it past us. Of course, they probably avoid telling us because they know that we'll try to fight it, and either they think they know better, or they're trying to get us on purpose because they want the power. Yeah, we Mormons even have this kind of thing mentioned in our LDS scripture: ...Basically 'power tends to corrupt, absolute power tends to corrupt absolutely, so a lot of power doesn't get given to a lot of people.' Another reason is probably that they wanted the people to be able to take care of themselves, rather than needing someone to take care of and make the decisions for them... Anyway, I did breath a sigh of relief when I heard it was postponed. Although I feel that we shouldn't let our guard down; for all we know, congress might be trying to pull another fast one on us and the 'unknown date' is Jan 1, or something. Probably not... they might have figured we'd be expecting that... But yeah, if anything, 'unknown date' would be a reason to keep a cautious watch for activity. And even if we find out that the date is a pretty long ways away doesn't mean we should just do nothing in the meantime. We wouldn't have to expend so much energy so quickly, no, but keeping up the fight to some degree would be a good idea.

I'm glad it's not been passed. While postphoning is good but I agree with what Omni said, just because it's postphoned doesn't mean we're still safe. It could easily rear its ugly head when everything's calmed down. I wouldn't put it past lawmakers, since there were some major supporters for this monstrocity.

Guess what? Congress has decided to put it back in committee on Wednesday, because Lamar Smith absolutely refuses to listen to tech experts.
And my mental breakdown is now complete and irreversible, even though it seems the "going to jail for posting/linking to anything from a movie on Youtube" part is being debunked by the people who made it.

Not just tech experts, but economic experts and a lot of other experts. But yeesh... You've got to be kidding me... This Wednesday? The 21st?
