Thanks, Kirby! =D
I just got finished with my last college exam today, so I am officially a free man until January 28th. This should give me a good chunk of time to work on both NTWF games. ^^
I'm starting to get the hang of drawing Sev's wings. Omni's tips helped me, and i've also studied some of the bird-like creatures in MapleStory to see how their wings flap. He's starting to look really awesome! I'll definitely post a video of him in action once I get to that stage. =3
At the moment, i'm working on the first section of the RPG, which takes place in a dungeon/prison that Ikkin must escape from. She'll encounter a character in the dungeon that will teach her the basics of the game - walking, entering new areas, attacking, using items, and so on. It involves a lot of scripting and dialog... but it's pretty fun to program a game and write a story at the same time. ^_^
It also makes me wonder how i'm going to deal with releasing alpha versions (once I get to that stage). RPG's take a long time to play, and I wouldn't want my testers to start the game all the way from the beginning after each release. ^^; I think what I could do is add some kind of "bookmark" feature that saves your progess, and whenever a new version is released, it'll be able to load your saved game and apply changes to it accordingly.

If you're going to do some kind of save files thing, I'd prefer it if you could have more than one save. >_> Because PFA likes to play games over again or whatever and not have to erase her old game. Maybe I'm weird that way, but yes. As for alpha testing, maybe it could be like some of the test games they have in game stores, where you can pick a dungeon or whatever to try. And then in the full version, it goes in... storyline-ical order. I dunno if that made sense, but yeah.

Testers can choose from a set of levels to try out in no particular order. x3 I just feel kindof iffy about doing that with this game, because it's more story-oriented and I wouldn't want to spoil things. ^^; As for multiple save files, i've already added that feature. ^_^ Players will be able to save up to 3 games, and you can save even more if you move the files in the \save folder of the game's directory.

Okay... It's about time I posted something here. ^_^ I've been focusing most of my attention lately on two things - the scripting for the first dungeon area of the game, and the in-game soundtrack. This is the first game i've ever made with MP3 music, and I must say that i'm really excited about the way it's turning out! =D I've uploaded some of the completed songs, if you wanna listen to them: Adventure's Awakening (Ikkin's Theme)I posted this one in a couple different threads, but it's about time I put it here since i've decided to include it in the game. It'll most likely be an intro song, but I could also use it during the turning point of boss battles when Ikkin starts to gain the upper hand. How I WishA short, light tune for the title screen where you select which file you want to load. ClimbingGeneric overworld music. I imagine this song fitting in well with a plains/grassland area. Against the DarknessA rather intense song, which I think would go perfectly with the darker areas of the forest to portray the danger that lurks within the trees. ValleyThis is one of my favorites so far. When I listen to it, I imagine a tall, rocky, mountain-like area where the wind is blowing wildly.

Hey, I just realized… In iTunes, you can go under 'Advanced > Open Stream' and copy-paste the song's url (or just command/left-click the link and select 'Open in iTunes' on Mac) and it accesses the song from the net, rather than having to store it on a hard drive. Getting to the thread's topic, those are awesome! I'm actually listening to the (streamed) Climbing tune as I write this. (writing that sentence anyway) I get the impression that I've heard the beginning of 'Against the Darkness' in some other song somewhere, though I can't remember which one… Oh well, there are a lot of tunes that have one part or another that at least resembles another song.

Strife, those are amazing especially Ikkin's Awakening, which I confess I have never heard before. In each song there is something heroic and I can truly imagine the image to which the songs would be played. The melodies are sometimes gentle and something intense which is a wonderful contrast. They all set my mind in motion and if no piece of music was written to inspire, all of yours would fill that gap magnificently.

Omni - That's an interesting feature. ^_^ And thank you!
I actually had those same thoughts with the beginning of "Against the Darkness". I get the feeling that it was from a different song... but since this game is going to be freeware, I don't care much if I end up copying another song by accident. In that case, it can be considered a remix. ^_~
Celestial - Thank you. ^_^ That means a lot to me. And there's plenty more where that came from, since I have a few incomplete songs to compose still.

When I listen to "Climbing" I can picture it accompanying an animated sequence.
Hmm, I can't choose a favourite, I like them all. ^_^

Oooh, Strife and Leos domain expired, same thing happened with the Jade Pheonix game. ^^; I think Strife will host them via Patjades domain when he gets the chance. ^_^

Aye, he speaks the truth. ^_^ Actually, i'm glad you guys bumped this topic up, 'cause it's time for an update! I have a few things to cover here today. First off, a slight name change. I found Ikkin's Awakening to be a bit of a mouthful, so I decided to make that the subtitle of the game. The main title is now FableQuest. It's the best I could come up with, and I guess it fits the old-school style of the game. xD; Next up... new screenshots! =D This is a save point, the most common way to save your progress in the game. Stepping over it will magically transfer your adventure to a file in the game's directory. You might also notice that I revamped Ikkin's eyes. I think the pupils look a lot better now (rather than the thin lines I had before xD), and it's easier to see that they're female eyes. Another way to save your game is to rest at an Inn. Before you crawl into bed, you'll have a chance to save your progress. I'm debating whether or not I should make the indoor lamps breakable. I probably will. xD This is a town area, where i'm slashing up bushes in front of a shop. This bush happened to contain a herb inside of it, which is an item that can be mixed with other items to make special potions. There are a couple of notable things in this screenshot. First of all, it shows how you can interact with NPC's through dialog. Second, it shows the "Graphic Not Done Yet!" box, which is something I use as a placeholder for NPCs and monsters that i've programmed and scripted, but haven't yet drawn. Third... if you notice the little black lines in the grass to the left of the shop, that's one of the graphical bugs I haven't been able to fix. Sometimes, when NPC's move while talking, the words above their head will leave a trail of black lines. There's not much I can do at the moment with that. Not every NPC is going to be friendly to Ikkin. Some will be a little more cautious about her presence. I won't tell you why, though, since I wouldn't want to spoil the plot. ^^. Also, I phail at drawing isometric bridges. xD I really need to look at some examples. The last thing I want to mention is music-related. I'm doing good with most of the game's tunes, but I find myself struggling a little bit with some of the calmer, happier songs, such as town music. Each musician is good with different types of music, afterall. ^_^ In this case, I could use some pointers with making happier tunes. <.<;; I've been working on a couple of unfinished pieces, so if you're interested in collaborating, I can send them over via PM.

Yay more screenshots. :3 They're shiny.
As for calm and happy music... um, maybe try to not use too many instruments and keep the tempo slow? *shrug*

How's this for a bridge reference? It's basically just the same half-oval, copied, and offset, with same-amount-of-tilt lines all across, and some tall blocks for support. I found it neat how the view automatically gave the bridge perspective.
